Chapter 598: The Wedge of Convergence
"You also know that the suburbs of the northern West Coast are connected to a town called Sanban Street, and in any case, what happened there during that time was unusual. I was there to find out what was going on about the Delos Empire, but I found a strange man with a gun there. I'm not sure what they're doing there, and I'm not sure they were Kahlert from the Celestial Realm. Marcos said.
"Weirdos with guns, what are they doing there?" asked Karl.
"Everything you can see in the actions of the thugs in Arad is coercion, intimidation, intimidation, and it is clear that they are doing everything they can to get the people there to obey them. It was that night that I met Nils, who was also investigating the area. He also saw me as an enemy at first, but after explaining the situation, he chose to cooperate with me after thinking about it. β
Karl lowered his head and pondered, this is indeed a very important piece of information. If the strangers with guns were indeed members of Callert, then it meant that they had already arrived on Arad in some way at least a year ago. Perhaps only by asking the clowns in person would he know how they got here, and there was no doubt that he would have a chance to get an answer in the actions that Kelly proposed.
Erin obviously wanted more information, so she asked. "Did you find out who you and the guy named Nils identified?"
However, Marcos only shook his head regretfully, "They hid themselves well, and although they were carrying firearms, we had no way to find any clues that could prove that they were Kahlert, not even that they were from the Celestial Realm. β
"Really......" Erin bowed her head in disappointment.
"It seems that there is a good chance that what Adrian found is related to them, otherwise he would not have contacted Kelly to write to you. Marcos said to Carl.
Carl nodded, "yes, I've got to figure it out. β
"I'll go with you, and I want to meet Instructor Kelly too. Erin leaned in.
"Kelly, Instructor, what are you talking about?" Karl asked, confused.
"Don't you know?" said Erin, with a surprised expression. "Kelly served for a time as an instructor to the roaming gunners in the Queen's Courtyard. β
"I've never heard of anything like that. Carl shook his head in disbelief.
"Alas......" Erin sighed helplessly.
Marcos smiled, "It's kind of fun, I'm looking forward to it." β
Carl's solo venture into the lava cave didn't cause much of a stir in the Afalia camp, and in fact many of the people who slept in their tents didn't even know that this kind of madness was happening while they were asleep, even Gal and Boken, who had always been concerned about the situation in the camp. Krent, the only one with knowledge of the situation, decided to keep it a secret for his friend, and he didn't want to cause some trouble.
Anna and Fett, who remained in the camp, were obviously happy to see Carl return safe and sound, but what Carl didn't expect was that they had met Erin once before that. It's no wonder that Erin followed the path everyone had taken, so it wasn't surprising that she would explain her identity to Anna and Fett and inquire about her whereabouts.
Karl didn't plan to stay long, and when he returned to the camp, it was dawn at Camp Afaria, and he was ready to rest until noon before leaving the camp. He's very low-key, and what happened to him years ago in the Impossible Zone keeps him from getting into trouble as much as possible, so to others, he's just a withdrawn guy with a strange weapon. Of course, in the minds of those who know him, he is definitely not what others imagine.
"It's hard to believe, though. Anna couldn't help but sigh. "He actually cleared out all the monsters in the lava cavern by himself, and you really didn't help him?" she asked Marcos and Camille suspiciously.
"Of course not. The two replied in unison.
"It's beautiful. Fit whispered.
"What do you mean?"
"Carl. β
"No, I'm sure it would be smooth if it were you. Anna laughed.
Marcos teased at the right time, "Of course she can solve it, but it's a pity that her whole arm is now nearly paralyzed." Fett glanced at Marcos with some dissatisfaction, while Anna sighed helplessly, she really couldn't understand what Marcos was thinking. He acted as if he was deliberately trying to provoke Fett, except that she didn't have much time with Marcos, so she didn't know it was just his habit. And although Fett is dissatisfied on the surface, he has long been accustomed to Marcos's ridicule in his heart. On the other hand, she could even feel a touch of intimacy.
Erin was very polite, and when Carl was sleeping in the tent, she came to the crowd and solemnly introduced herself once more. The public's affection for her was born because of this, and maybe she was really a kind girl, as Carl said. The war didn't change her too much, or make her lose her original self, which was what Carl was most glad for. And now Carl has never slept peacefully.
Apparently Erin was surprised and happy to know Freya because Freya, who had been on the missing list, was actually alive. Not many people in the courtyard of the Imperial Lady believe that Freya is still alive, and in war, disappearance often means death. But Erin firmly believes that if the body is not found, then there is still a possibility that the other party is still alive. It may be a bit naΓ―ve, but that's exactly what Erin is, herself, not anyone else.
Time was always fast, and when the hour hand of Carl's watch on his wrist was fixed at twelve o'clock, he sat up from bed punctually. It was time to go, and although leaving this gloomy place would not allow him to usher in the true sunshine, he thought that as long as he worked hard, he would one day get the peace he wanted. When Erin appeared in front of him unharmed, his goal changed.
Erin was already waiting for Carl outside the tent, standing dignified, quiet, not caring about the strange stares of the others in the camp. The khaki uniform she wears stands out in the camp, but Erin's experience in the Imperial Capital has taught her how to endure or ignore the strange or malicious gazes of others. Of course, if it weren't for Marcos' explanation to Gal, she would have come up and interrogate Erin. Letting a stranger suddenly appear in the camp was something she would never allow to happen, and perhaps it was this that alien adventurers would distance themselves from her.
"It's time to go, Arad is nice, but sorry I can't take you to some interesting places. Carl pressed the brim of his cowboy hat and said apologetically to Erin.
"Like you used to do?" Irene smiled and shook her head. "It's okay, I'm sure we'll have a chance when it's all over. β
Carl was stunned, and Irene's smile was like the warm sunshine on a winter day to him, so he smiled along. "Yes, you're right. β
"So, let's go. β
