In the middle of the Warring States period, the state of Pakistan had already declined, and some nobles took the opportunity to demand political and economic benefits from the Ba royal family, so that they launched an armed rebellion, and the people suffered great disasters.
General Ba Manzi, who was stationed on the eastern border of Pakistan, decided to drive back to the capital Jiangzhou (present-day Chongqing) to quell the rebellion, but his forces were not strong enough to defeat the aristocratic forces.
So, Ba Manzi decided to borrow troops from the state of Chu in the east.
In Yingdu, Chu State, Ba Manzi explained his intention to the king of Chu and implored the king of Chu to send troops.
The king of Chu agreed to send troops, but put forward a condition, asking Ba Manzi to cede the three cities he was stationed, and at the same time asking him to send his son to Chu as a hostage.
Taking hostages as collateral was a diplomatic practice in the Warring States period in order to gain integrity. But in that case, time will be delayed, and the civil strife in Pakistan may be out of control, and borrowing troops will be meaningless.
Ba Manzi became anxious and said to the king of Chu: "No! If the king of Chu doubts my integrity, it is okay if this soldier is not borrowed! If you still believe me, let me bring the army back today." When the time comes, you won't be able to get three cities, and I'll cut off your skull!
When the king of Chu saw that Ba Manzi, who had always been upright, said something to this point, he didn't want to say anything more, and promised to send troops immediately.
Ba Manzi rushed back to Jiangzhou with the Chu army, and soon defeated the noble rebels and restored domestic order.
A few days later, the king of Chu sent envoys to Ba Manzi and asked him to fulfill his original promise to cede the three cities to the state of Chu.
Ba Manzi said to the Chu envoy: "Yes, I did agree to it at the beginning, but that was a condition imposed on me by the king of Chu taking advantage of the crisis in my country. Despite this, I promised the King of Chu at the beginning, and I must keep my promise and never embarrass you, the envoy. I can't cut a city, but I can't cut my head.
"Use my head, fill my city, thank the king of Chu, so it's okay"
As he spoke, Ba Manzi drew his saber and cut off his head in one fell swoop.
A miracle happened at this time, and Ba Manzi was still standing after the severed head - the plot recorded in the historical records is: "Manzi killed himself and gave his head to the Chu envoy." "
The envoys of the State of Chu did not complete the task of receiving the three cities of Ba State, so they had to bring the head of Ba Manzi back to China to restore his life.
When the king of Chu heard this, he couldn't help but be deeply moved, and said, "If our Chu country can get a loyal and brave general like Ba Manzi, why should we care about those cities!"
So he ordered the burial of Ba Manzi's head with the gift of the emperor.
Pakistan also held a state funeral for the general, and his descendants will pay tribute to him.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Yan Yan, the general of Ba County, was defeated by Zhang Fei, Zhang Fei asked him to surrender, Yan Yan said: "Since ancient times, there have only been generals who cut off their heads, and there are no generals who surrendered. "
This deeply moved Zhang Fei, so he released Yan Yan. The beheading general Yan Yan said was Ba Manzi.
Coincidentally, Ba Manzi and Yan Yan were both from Linjiang (now Zhongxian County, Chongqing City).
According to legend, Linjiang was one of the three cities that Ba Manzi promised to cede to the Chu State. In the eighth year of Tang Zhenguan, it was also because of the hometown and story of the two generals Ba Manzi and Yan Yan, and it was renamed Zhongzhou, and later changed to Zhongxian.
There are very few records of the history of Pakistan in the history books, and Ba Manzi is also the only famous person in Pakistan who has recorded his name -- later generations directly call him "General Ba".
(Note: Due to the lack of records, there is a lot of controversy about the age of Ba Manzi and other details)
