Chapter 1: The Birth of a Young Magician (Part I)
Tom Cooper was a good kid who loved to learn, especially science. He firmly believes that it is science that makes people's living standards constantly improve and make his life full of happiness.
Until one day, a huge crack appeared in this strong barrier in Tom's heart......
"Hi, Tom!" Marcus, Papa appeared at the door of Tom's room, "Your mom and I are going out to buy something, would you like to come along?"
Tom put down his pen and smiled brightly at Marcus, "If we pass by the bookstore, I don't mind buying some books at all." ”
Marcus glanced at the notebook on Tom's desk and smiled, "I think we will—do you need new knowledge to supplement your experiments?"
Tom closed the notebook and swept out of the room like the wind.
"Yes, Daddy, I love you!"
In the car, Marcus reluctantly said to his wife, "Should we be glad that Tom is not like us?"
Tom's dad Marcus and mom Cynthia were always last in their class when they went to school.
"It doesn't matter if Tom doesn't like to study like us!" replied my mother sweetly, "he's still going to be a big deal." ”
Indeed, Tom's grandfather was a well-known British nobleman, and he was rich enough to rival the country. Grandpa's biggest regret is that he didn't work hard enough when he was young, and only gave birth to a loser son like Marcus.
Even so, Grandpa, who was extremely stingy with his son, still gave Marcus a huge fortune - which was only a fraction of the wealth that Grandpa had.
And although her mother Cynthia is not from a wealthy background, it is strange that she also has a large amount of wealth.
According to Mom, this is something that has been accumulated over several generations of her Hunter family.
Tom had never met a relative from his mother's family.
Mom said that before she and her father met, she was the only one left in her family.
Oh, poor mom.
When Tom learned the news, his love for his mother was almost overflowing, and he agreed to many of his mother's excessive requests.
When he knew that his mother was not sad at all, he even relied on his feelings for her and took the opportunity to bully himself.
And the father, the man who forgot his son, was still smiling and watching from the sidelines, completely ignoring that his son was in dire straits.
Truth be told, those horrible dresses Tom definitely doesn't want to wear a second time!
Now, the happy family of three has bought things and come to the bookstore.
Tom couldn't wait to walk in, just as he wanted to make a beeline for his favorite science reading section.
However, something seems to be wrong today.
Tom frowned, standing in front of the store and looking left and right.
There are not many people in the bookstore, except for the clerk who is bored and secretly reading magazines, there is only a mother and daughter who are walking towards the picture book area.
"It's a rarity. Mom took Dad's arm and touched Tom's head with a smile, "Our little Tom was able to resist the temptation of science books today. ”
"Mommy!" Tom looked back in annoyance and protested in a low voice, "I'm not a child anymore, don't touch my head!
Dad smiled and patted Tom on the back.
Tom let out a heavy puff of air from his nose and strode inside.
"Our son was so lovely. Mom covered her mouth and laughed, "He's only ten years old, and he can't wait to become an adult." ”
"To be exact," Dad took Mom's hand, "and Tom will be eleven years old in two days." ”
The two smiled at each other at the door of the bookstore, and even a gloomy rainy day could not hide the dazzling light on them.
This damn love glows.
Here, Tom inadvertently walked to a fiction section that he was never interested in, because of a momentary sulking.
The strange feeling that emerges from the moment you step through the door of the bookstore becomes more and more obvious.
Tom glanced up at the bookshelves and was immediately caught by a book with a distinctive spine.
Vaguely, he seemed to hear a voice from the bottom of his heart: "Take it, it belongs to you—"
No, no, no.
Tom shook his head.
He wasn't going to use his pocket money to buy something that looked useless.
Tom turned decisively and walked away.
But as soon as he took two steps on his feet, he turned back again.
Science says it's okay to trust your instincts once in a while – even if your instincts aren't reliable.
He "brushed" the book from the shelf, and without looking at it, he put the book under his arm and walked towards his destination.
Strange to say, when Tom's hand touched this ornate and exaggerated book, it was as if an indescribable force poured into Tom's body along the book.
As Tom checked out with four or five science books and the useless book, the clerk glanced at Tom in amazement.
"A total of £3 and 6pence. ”
"This is what I'm going to buy, too. Tom found out that it was just the price of the few science books he had bought, and kindly moved the book to the clerk.
"Lucky little one. The clerk raised an eyebrow, "My boss said that if someone wanted to buy the book, he wouldn't have to pay for it because the boss was going to give it to him." ”
Tom blinked, trying to find traces of the joke in the clerk's eyes.
"Okay. Finally, Tom hugged the book, and the corners of his mouth curled into a sincere and false smile, "Thank you for me, boss." ”
When he got home, Tom put his new books on the table, pulled out a chair and sat down.
He decided to dust the "giveaway" book in the darkest corner of his desk.
But when he picked up the book, he hesitated and decided to study the book first.
The book is thick and beautiful.
In the center of the old leather book cover is engraved a mighty tiger with closed eyes. On each side of the tiger's body, there is a thick chain.
The bottom of the chain is connected to a sun-shaped pattern.
To Tom's bewilderment, behind the tiger there was a pair of wings like a white dove.
Maybe it's a fantasy novel!
Tom thought.
Like the amazing animals in fairy tales, this is most likely a story about a tiger with wings.
Tom looked at the back cover again.
Well, look at this huge circle on the back cover, which looks like a magic circle.
Tom shook his head and opened the book.
He wanted to see if novels were better than science books.
The moment Tom opened the book, a cool breeze blew at his feet.
Tom stopped what he was doing and glanced back at the window.
Well, the windows are tightly closed.
Interesting.
Tom continued to turn the pages.
A dazzling light lit up from the unfolded book, and a small whirlwind rolled around Tom, placing him on his desk and blowing the book with a loud "whoosh".
Even the quilt on the bed a few steps away was blown to a corner.
The blinding light and raging wind forced Tom to squint.
Although the book looks a little out of tune on the outside, the mechanisms in the book are cleverly designed.
Tom nodded in satisfaction, and decided to study the little tricks in this book for a while—when he was done, he could make his own book and use it to scare his mother, who always liked to bully him.
