Later generations are full of admiration for Dayu, and exclaimed: "Wei Yu, Yu Qi fish!" means that without Lord Yu, we have all become fish and turtles. People are grateful for his merits and call him "Dayu", that is, "great Yu". In this way, the sea in the east, the desert in the west, and from the north to the south, the prestige and enlightenment of the Son of Heaven reached the remote frontiers of the four directions. So Emperor Shun gave him a piece of black jade representing the color of water in recognition of Yu's meritorious work in controlling the water, and announced the success of the water control to the world.

Yao knew that his son Danzhu was not worthy of being passed on to him in the world, so he tried to give it to Shun. If it is given to Shun, everyone in the world will get benefits and only Danzhu will be disadvantaged; if it is passed on to Danzhu, the people of the world will suffer and only Danzhu will benefit. Yao said: "After all, I can't make the people of the world suffer and only let one person benefit", so in the end he passed the world to Shun.

In BC2281, three years after the mourning, Shun was 54 years old at this time, and Shun gave up the throne to Danzhu. Shun led the Youyu tribe to migrate to Yuncheng, Shanxi.

The princes who came to the pilgrimage did not go to Danzhu but went to Shun, those who fought lawsuits did not go to Danzhu but came to Shun, and those who sang praises of merit did not sing praises to Danzhu but came to praise Shun. Shun said, "This is the will of God."
