Chapter 031: Mysterious Gift
The three of them fed their hunger with wild fruit from the fruit tree, then reconfirmed their direction and destination, and then, with fatigue and anxiety, they set out again on their journey to find the witch, trying to find a safe camp before night came. At noon, they came to the deepest part of the Dragon's Blood Forest, surrounded by a thousand layers of twilight, and the bushes and dwarf foliage had become thin and barren due to lack of light.
The road was a downhill slope, and a little further, gray and white umbrella mushrooms and white mushrooms replaced the previous shrubs and branches, and huge dragonflies flew among the ravines, they were larger than the birds outside, their wings were painted with some kind of colorful glaze, not transparent, and some swarthy animals resembling voles ran past them quickly, and the three of them went deeper and deeper.
Allen walked at the front of the line, picking up an arm-thick trunk that had just made a great achievement, and he almost stumbled into a huge bottomless pit covered with fallen leaves that had been corroded by moisture and accompanied by a thick layer of moss, almost blending in with the mountain road.
Mike followed, his silver boots now covered in mud and moss, and he felt a little sorry for the once silver boots on his feet. Suddenly, something hit him in the face, like the furry claws of a brown bear or tiger, with a chilling, pungent scent.
He quickly grabbed it with his hands, and then saw a black-haired spider bigger than Sersi's head, and found himself in a huge spider web, although the spider web had been torn in a daze, but his face was already stained with disgusting green slime, he quickly shook off the spider, and then reached out to wipe away the pungent slime, and let out a terrible roar.
"What's wrong?!" Alan and Sersi opened their mouths almost at the same time, but what caught their eyes was that Mike was frantically trampling on a spider that had become a pulp, and the green and yellow juice kept bursting from between his feet, and the scene was extremely disgusting.
"Hey! That's enough! we need to get out of here!" exclaimed Alan with goosebumps shivering all over his body.
The trio walked a little further, and along the way they didn't encounter any greater threats other than the large, grotesque animals, but the slippery mossy path and the white ferns covered in the soil were enough of a headache.
As the sun set westward, they stopped in front of a great cave.
"You mean, we're going to rest here tonight?" said Sersi and shouted into the hole. After a long time, the dark hole seemed to be like a big mouth that swallowed the sound, and he did not receive any response.
Two days and one night of running dragged the three of them to exhaustion, but when they stood at the entrance of the cave, there was obviously a wind blowing inside, but they could not see a trace of light, they did not know what was in the cave, but the darkness was always daunting.
"Why don't we try to explore further?" Selsi suggested, "I don't think this cave is safe." Perhaps, there is a better place ahead....."
"What if not?" Alan scratched his nose, "When the time comes, shall we come back in the dark?"
"Then let's go inside," Mike took the lead, "I hope nothing strange happens in there!"
When the campfire went up, the pitch-black cave wasn't as scary as they thought. There were indeed some strangely shaped reptiles here, but there were not many of them, and they were not as scary as the previous spiders, and there were some white bones scattered a little deeper, and when Alan got closer to see them, he confirmed that they were not human bones.
After a short rest, the three of them left the cave together, trying to get some dinner before the sun went down completely.
They weaved through the woods, where the terrain was relatively flat compared to the daytime roads, and the ground was not slippery because of the light, but the air around them was still humid, mixed with the smell of rotting branches and some kind of insect.
The close-knit trees and the overgrown branches seemed to be the only problem, but it was also where their dinner came from, with the rejuvenated birds perched among the branches, Alan shooting several with his bow and arrows, Sersi pulling out several hares from the hollows, and Mike picking only a few wild fruits.
When they returned to the cave, it was almost dark, but thankfully, the cold wind from the forest did not extinguish their campfire.
"Wait!" Mike stopped suddenly. In the next second, he slowly pulled out the bear's head sword at his waist, and the wild fruits he had just picked were scattered all over the ground.
"What's wrong?" said Allen, dropping the arrow that pierced through the bird, his keen sense of smell unsettling him.
"Don't make a sound," Mike swallowed, and said in a low voice, "Our camp, it looks like someone has been there." ā
Sersi looked around, but there were no monster footprints on the ground. "Who?" he asked Mike in the same deep voice, "where did you see that?"
"There!" the astute Angoran waved his sword at the campfire at the entrance of the cave, "there is something behind the fire, where I sat and rested when we left, and I am sure there was nothing. ā
"Man, you've got a good look!" Sersi looked in the direction Mike was pointing, but saw nothing.
"We people in the Angolan steppes can see wolves a mile away. With that, Mike held his sword horizontally and walked slowly in the direction of the cave entrance. Eren drew his black steel sword, turned and leaned behind it, and looked around vigilantly as his companion followed.
The air around them froze again, and the suffocating tension consumed the nerves of the trio once more, and they walked shoulder to shoulder, until they approached the campfire, but the danger did not come.
"What the hell!" Sersi looked at the bread in the bamboo basket, his voice mixed with curiosity and delight, "Who put it here?"
"Hey, be careful. Alan turned his head and asked.
Mike nodded, and then with the sharp tip of his sword, he picked open a loaf of bread in the wicker basket. A few seconds passed, and nothing happened, and it looked like it was just a plain loaf of bread, which seemed to have just been baked in terms of fluffiness.
"Someone is helping us?" Mike picked up a loaf of bread with his sword and sniffed it to his nose.
"I don't know. Alan shook his head. He crouched down and took a closer look at the basket and bread that had suddenly appeared, there were no animal or human footprints around it, it seemed to appear out of nowhere.
"I'm hungry!" said Sersi as she picked up a loaf of bread and stuffed it into her mouth.
"You don't want to die?!" Alan snorted, but was a step too late. Sersi had already swallowed the bread in his stomach, and when he had eaten one, he picked up another and sat down by the campfire and devoured it.
Alan looked up and saw that Mike had also put the bread he had just inserted into his mouth, and he looked down at the wicker basket for a while, and found a strange coat of arms on it, and the pattern of the coat of arms seemed to have been seen there.
