Chapter 2: The Night of the New World

Darkness has shrouded the world, and Lynn has experienced darkness countless times, but this time, the feeling is completely different.

During the day, it's very calm, but as soon as it gets dark, there are many strange vibrations around you.

The vibrations were small, but there were quite a few of them, and Lynn found a better new word to describe them, 'sounds'.

The wonderful word seems to cause the vibration of the sound to be very small in terms of frequency or slowness, and the tentacles behind the Leviathan contain different sensory cells that can receive vibrations of various frequencies at the same time, and now Lynn receives a vibration of a very high frequency, but the amplitude is quite small.

This is also called 'sound', which can only be done by living beings.

These are small creatures of a few centimeters or so, and there may be some reason why they deliberately make so many noises.

Lynn didn't light up the lantern in the dark, which might have attracted something unfriendly.

Lynn took the motionless plan, Leviathan and the transporter leaned against a sharp pillar, quietly waiting for the darkness to pass, the night temperature was very low, the cold wind had swept away all the moisture outside their carapaces, but their carapaces were thick enough not to leak a drop of water.

Lynn knew how to make a carapace that wouldn't leak more than 100 million years ago, but it was still unfamiliar with the features of land.

The starry sky is not as bright as before, and with the obstruction of the spirals, only a few small spots of light can touch the ground, and some small sounds are made from time to time in the shadows where the light cannot be illuminated.

I don't know what kind of creature is hiding here.

The voices were loud and small, far and near, and the creatures were probably running around, and Lynn stared at the spots of light in the darkness, trying to see their running figures in the light of the stars.

By changing the structure of the eye, Lynn created a new type of eyeball, called the 'Eye of Capture', which could observe extremely fast movements.

Swish!

A dark shadow flashed in the light of the starlight, and although it was extremely fast, the eyeball still caught its appearance.

It seemed to be a small arthropod, about ten centimeters long, flattened with six slender legs, but Lynn couldn't see clearly because of the lack of light.

The creatures ran around Lynn, making small noises that seemed to ...... Interacting with each other, and with increasing frequency, they seem to congregate in large numbers around here.

Lynn didn't move, it didn't know what the creatures were trying to do, but given their size, they shouldn't be able to do anything......

But in this dark environment, surrounded by a large number of strange creatures, Lynn felt very bad.

'Ga ......'

A strange sound suddenly sounded from Leviathan's body, and Lynn was startled, and immediately stretched out her lantern-covered tentacles to shine on Leviathan's body, only to see the small arthropods she had just seen actually crawling on Leviathan's back, tearing at Leviathan's carapace with a pair of curved jaws.

Upon being illuminated, the arthropod turned and jumped off Leviathan, quickly escaping.

There wasn't even a trace of the Leviathan's carapace bitten, and Lynn wondered why such a small creature would dare to step forward alone and attack a creature so much larger than it.

Lynn's question was not answered, and there was still a 'quacking' sound from the arthropods, which did not attack them in groups, but only lingered in the darkness around them, and Lynn swept them with the light of the lantern, but could not see them.

They seem to be deliberately avoiding the light?

Lynn had some bad premonition, and she withdrew the lantern tentacles, intending to see the situation again.

The moment the lantern light disappeared, Lin suddenly felt countless sounds, it was the sound of their feet touching the ground, which was originally a small sound that was extremely difficult to feel, but because there were too many of them, it became extremely clear.

Countless small arthropods rushed up, and Lynn knew they were all crawling onto the Leviathan and the transporter, scraping against the carapace with their fangs like curved blades.

Although Lynn's carapace is lighter than in the sea in order to adapt to land, it is not thin, and the fragile parts, such as tentacles, can be retracted into the shell, and the troop port, water spout and the like can also be closed, so that neither the Leviathan nor the transporter will be harmed at all, but their teeth may collapse first.

The arthropods seemed to begin to understand, too, but they were still crawling around the Leviathan and the Transporter, and suddenly they touched some holes in the Leviathan's body that didn't close.

It was a small hole used to absorb oxygen, and it was so small in diameter that even these small arthropods could not get into it.

To Lynn's surprise, a burst of pain dared to suddenly come from the stomata, which was the feeling of corroded cells in the inner wall.

Do they still use dissolved liquids? Lynn squeezed the muscle cells on the inner wall of the stomata and squirted an even more intense dissolution that sputtered onto the arthropods that surrounded the stomata.

'......Quack' they were hurt and let out a strange sound, but they still didn't back away from Leviathan's body.

It's a real nuisance.

Lin stretched out the lantern tentacles again, and in the moment they stretched out, they were all surrounded by tentacles, but the moment the lantern light shone, the small arthropods all fled as if they were in great pain, making strange noises.

Lynn used the same method to drive away the arthropods on the transporter, but although they escaped, they still lingered around, refusing to disperse.

Looks like we'll have to get out of here, wondering what else these creatures will do.

The Leviathan and the transporter ran quickly through the night spike forest, the arthropods following closely behind, making strange cries, but seemed afraid of the Leviathan's lantern to catch up.

In this forest of needles, she didn't know which direction to go, Lin just wanted to see if she could get rid of the group of arthropods.

Countless needles kept retreating, and after running for a while, Lin felt the voice behind her quiet.

Gave up?

Lynn turned the lantern to the rear, seeing nothing but the sand and mud on the ground, and when Lynn turned the light back again, a dark shadow suddenly appeared on the ground not far in front of Leviathan.

What is that?

The black figure was huge, and Leviathan looked closer, only to realize that it was something familiar.

A shark.

To be precise, it was the remains of a shark, a two-meter-long shark that was thrown to this location by the tsunami, and the middle part of its body was eaten a lot, leaving some internal organs to be sprinkled on the surrounding mud, and the head and tail were completely unnibbled.

Lynn wondered what kind of creature had eaten the corpse, but she had not finished it and dropped it, and there were no other creatures around to eat it.

Shark carcasses have the characteristic smell of carrion, which is disgusting to some creatures, but should be a sign that most creatures see it as food.

Feeling bad, Lin immediately asked Leviathan and the transporter to turn away, and they ran quickly again, and at the moment when Lin fled, a strong vibration suddenly came from behind him.

Something massive was moving, and it was in Lynn's direction.

The speed of the Leviathan and the transporter was actually very slow, because of the excessive water in the body, the speed was nowhere near as high as in the water, and Lynn didn't quite know how the structure could run faster on land.

Feeling the huge creature chasing after her, Lin suddenly realized that the shark corpse was a ...... Pitfall?

It's possible......

But that didn't matter anymore, and Lynn withdrew the lantern, albeit not fast, but still ran away with all her might.

The giant creature that had used the shark as a trap only chased it for a moment, and then retreated, not intending to chase it all the time.

Lynn didn't stop, she kept running.

At night, the needle forest is full of strange sounds and smells, and during the day, it is extremely quiet, and it is difficult to see a single creature, but at night, it seems to be alive.

During the continuous running, the transporter's attachment legs are almost overwhelmed, and the movement of the internal muscle cells is too vigorous and causes the cells to be torn apart or die outright.

Even the Leviathan was tired from being unfamiliar with the gravity of the land, but Lynn kept running until she made sure she wasn't getting too close to any of the dangerous sounds and smells.

However, there was a smell that reverberated around Lynn for a long time.

Is that...... The smell of carrion.
