Chapter 44: Atmospheric Life
The sky above the northern continent was now shrouded in strong winds, and the pom-pom pierced its fluff into the ice on the ground, pulling its body tight, and although it swayed in the storm, it could still observe the changes in the sky.
In the dim storm of snow and ice, a group of creatures can be seen in the sky, and they are extremely numerous, dancing in the air on a strong whirlwind, as if they are cheering......
Those are...... Atmospheric slimes, Lynn has been looking for them for hundreds of years, but they are nowhere to be found, although Lynn is not very serious about looking for them......
It was only now that Lin saw them again, and Lin had thought they had all frozen to death.
These creatures spread their wings like stingrays and ride the wind in the air, although they are extremely light, they seem to know the direction of the storm very well, in this case they can still move freely, only need to swing their wings slightly to change the direction of flight, and the two slimes will never collide together.
They approached the frozen earth of what had once been a twisted jungle with the storm, and though they couldn't get close to the ground under the strong winds, Lynn could feel it...... They seem to be staring here, at the pom-poms on the ground.
Why is this creature here now? And there are probably thousands of them, and with the wind flying everywhere, covering a large area of the sky, it seems that they live well in cold environments, at least with a numerical advantage.
However, Lin is more concerned about the situation in their bodies, and the composition of these creatures may be completely different from the usual creatures, and as the moon approaches, there are more interesting things.
Lynn looked at the creatures flying through the air. Until the storm slowly weakens. After getting cooler storms though common. But it usually doesn't last long.
After the storm subsided, the slimes did not leave, they kept hovering in the air as if they were performing some 'ritual'.
Suddenly, several slimes rushed down from the air, and they swooped down on the pom-pom at great speed, and the pom-pom pulled the fluff out of the ground and dodged it at a faster speed.
I see. They're really here to find food......
Lynn also noticed that some of the slimes had flown towards the canyon in the storm, flying around on top of the shell, and some slimes had their bodies attached to the shell, as if trying to find a place to get into, and although they couldn't see that they had eyes, they were able to target the creatures in the canyon accurately......
And they didn't pay attention, and Lynn was targeting them too.
Boom ...... on the side of the canyon, the frozen ground burst open, and a huge cannon barrel reached out of the ground, aiming at the slimes flying in the air.
'Bang! A bomb flew quickly to the side of a slime. The moment the bomb approached, eight pairs of sharp arthropods suddenly stretched out from the surface, and the arthropods instantly hugged the slime in front of them. Then he took the slime and fell heavily to the ground.
The surrounding slimes immediately scattered in fright when they saw this, and the one caught by the bomb was still struggling.
The slime couldn't fly no matter how much it struggled, and although it had a wingspan of more than five meters, it was very lightweight, and the end of the arthropod that had grown from Lynn's bomb had now pierced its body, and it released tiny troops.
This creature ...... And so it was.
Under the subtle detection of the troops, Lin felt a feeling of surprise again, although Lin had thought of it before, but he didn't expect that there really was such a creature......
Atmospheric Slime's internal ...... There are no cells.
All the structures in this organism are completely different from common organisms, to be precise, it has no internal organs, but there are some sac-like and reticular structures in the body, but this qiē is not composed of cells, but a whole mass of things.
However, the composition of the body is still the same as that of cells, to be precise, this creature is very much like an amoeba, an amoeba that has been magnified countless times.
That is, a creature that retains the morphology of a single cell, but grows to such a large size.
In fact, Lynn has seen some larger creatures that don't have a combination of cells, like a creature called a 'slime mold'.
The creature looked like a fungus, but it was actually a creature that could move around like an amoeba, and the slime mold was very large compared to an amoeba that was about the size of a cell.
But both amoeba and slime molds are incomparably different from this 'atmospheric slime', and its structure is also countless times more complex than that of amoebae, just like the gap between primitive multicellular organisms and the current skeletal dragons.
But they have similar characteristics, this slime ...... It may be an evolutionary product of the first two organisms.
Because there is no control, many parts of Lin don't know what they are used for, and some Lin thinks that it is similar to the internal organs of ordinary animals, and they also use the dissolved liquid to digest the prey, and the head is ...... It actually has no head, but in the front it has an eye-like structure, which is completely different from normal eye composition, but Lynn thinks it can see clearly.
This slime has multiple cavities throughout its body, plus it is very light enough to fly in the sky without exerting strength, there are also vents located behind the body, which seem to be used for emergency acceleration, and there are some hardened structures in its body to maintain its overall form......
In addition to these, there are some very wonderful structures, the function is unknown, although it is said that the same ingredients are used, but Lynn has not seen this combination, some may have a very powerful effect, maybe there is some structure in its body that can protect against the cold, if you do research, you may be able to find these characteristics, some characteristics that Lin has never seen.
It's like Lynn didn't know that such a simple composition could form such a flexible object before she saw spider silk.
Lin wasn't sure if it had a brain, Lin could feel some faint electricity in its body, like brain waves, but it didn't focus on any point, and it couldn't be confirmed, because it was a combination that she had never seen before, and even if she had a brain, it was different from the common multicellular brain.
It turns out that it is not necessary for multiple cells to develop to this stage, which can be regarded as a miracle, and Lin believes that arthropods and vertebrates began to evolve separately in the worm age a long time ago, and this slime may have evolved separately from the current common organisms in the cell age.
After almost all the explorations were completed, Lynn had already drawn a figure of the slime in her mind, and recorded the composition of each part of it.
Then, just put it away.
Now Lin is different from before, observing a creature does not need to kill and decompose, and can be fully observed in a state where there is no damage to the main body, which is very helpful for observing some rare species.
Is this kind of slime rare or not? Lin felt that if they could maintain this amount in a world that had been frozen for so long, it must not be rare.
However, how they reproduce, how they live, and where they usually live or fly around are still mysteries.
The slime flew high into the air as soon as it was released, but it didn't fly too far, instead hovering in the sky as if it was ready to attack.
Lin can feel some 'breath' from it through brain waves, which may be its emotional xù reaction, but it is different from the secretions produced by normal creatures when they have sexual xù, and Lin has no way of knowing what kind of emotional xù this slime is now.
But it's probably anger or something.
This organism should be classified as a completely new species: 'large, non-multicellular organisms', but since it is too cumbersome to call, it is better to simply call them atmospheric organisms.
This creature doesn't need to touch the ground, it doesn't even have 'legs', only wings are enough, so Lynn thinks they live entirely between the clouds, but will stay close to the ground when they need food......
And there must be more than one kind of creature, just as there are countless species of multicellular organisms, and Lynn thinks that there are quite a few types of this creature, and this atmospheric creature of the 'stingray slime' is just one.
The olive-shaped creatures that were seen fighting the Inca swarm before were also atmospheric creatures, with different forms and some strange noises to attack.
And Lin thinks that the piece of thing found under the mountain where the scorpion was digging before is also a part of the atmospheric creatures, and that thing is very large, so Lin thinks that there are quite huge atmospheric creatures......
More similar creatures should be seen...... If they hadn't frozen to death.
As for the ones she communicated with Mketu before, Lin felt that they were very similar to the slimes she saw now, but they might also be of a different kind, because these slimes didn't seem to have a high intelligence, and Mketu was unlikely to meet them.
Lin felt that the intelligence of these slimes was similar to that of pterosaurs, and their attack behavior was relatively similar, so she didn't see anything special, although they were in a large group, they didn't have a teamwork appearance.
But at least it's certain that they do have brains...... Or it has an intelligence similar to that of a cerebral creature, it may be an organ, or it may be like a cheese tree with nerve knots scattered all over the body.
Some of the creatures in the canyon were also observing them with Lynn, including a few cheese trees.
This tree is arguably the only creature in the canyon that has experienced both the Dinosaur Continent and the Icy and Canyon events, and is still alive.
They are exceptionally long-lived, similar to normal plants, and there are some trees that are called 'elders' in the group of skeletal dragons because they know a lot of things.
But they also can't explain the wonderful sights in the air.
Looking at the slimes flying around in the air, Lin didn't have any special plans now, because she didn't know where they came from, and there was no way to find their habitat.
And, at the moment, what is more important is ...... Month. (To be continued......)
