Chapter 055: The Poor

Kenny pointed his sword at the Stalker, who was pale and panting, dressed in a not-so-clean coarse cloth coat, with no sword at his waist and no other weapons on his body. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. biqUgE怂 ļ½‰ļ½Žļ½†ļ½

"Who are you, and why are you following me?" Kenny raised his sword and pointed at the stalker.

The stalker frowned and silently raised his hand. "Don't, don't, knight, put your sword down first, if you don't make a good fuss, you'll die." I just wanted to help you, I didn't have any weapons on me, don't be so nervous, okay?"

"To answer my question, who are you, and why are you following me?" Kenny took two steps forward with his saber in hand, the tip of the sword pressed against the stalker's Adam's apple.

"Okay, okay, I said, my name is Brown, I'm really here to help you, can you put down your sword first? I really don't mean anything!" the man said with his arms raised vertically above his head, with a harmless expression on his face.

"Just keep it this way, and if you dare to put your hand down, I'll cut off your head at once!" Kenny put down his saber and took two steps back, looking at the stranger in front of him alertly, "What are you doing, why do you want to help me?"

"I just overheard you talking to the guards outside the gate at Taylor's Manor, you seem to have bribed the soldiers, but your expression doesn't look very pleasant, if I'm not mistaken, you probably want to attend tonight's Mask Ball, right?" Brown paused, observing the change in Kenny's expression, "You should be a wealthy knight in your clothes, do you want to get a position with Taylor, or do you want to get close to some noble lady?" but none of that matters, the important thing is that I can help you get into tonight's Mask Ball." His last sentence was unusually confident.

Kenny looked at the confident guy in front of him, retracted his saber from its scabbard, and turned to leave the alley.

"Hey, Silverknight, don't you believe what I say?" Brown lowered his hand and followed.

Kenny suddenly turned around and grabbed Brown by the neck with one hand, pinning him against the wall, "Stay away from me! Don't try to cheat me about anything, I've seen too many people like you!"

Kenny let go of Brown and continued down the alley.

"Hey, don't do that, I really want to help you. Otherwise, you don't have to give me a copper coin, just tell me where you live, and I'll get you an invitation to the masked ball before the sun goes down. Brown cautiously followed behind Kenny.

Brown's words brought Kenny to his feet, and he turned to look up and down at the man in the coarse cloth.

"How do I know if the invitation you gave me is genuine or fake, do you think I am stupid enough to pay for a fake invitation? Kenny said dismissively.

"Well, since you've said so, I'll give you another preferential terms, tell me where you live, and I'll pick you up in a carriage with an invitation before the sun goes down, and I'll disguise myself as your groom when you get to Taylor's Manor, until you're in the manor, and the ball is over, and I'll pay when you come out, so you should trust me, right?" said Brown with a helpless expression.

"Who the hell are you?" asked Kenny, confused.

"Neither the good guys, nor the bad guys, but now, can we talk about the price?" Brown said with a smile.

In the evening, Kenny sat in the lobby of a post house, a steady stream of travelers shuttling through the streets, the servants lit the paraffin candles on the table, and inhaled a bad smell into his nose, Kenny picked up the wine glass on the table, took a sip of barley wine, and stroked his beard.

"Excuse me, excuse me, is there an adult named Nikon in the hall, your carriage has arrived!" called out a servant standing in front of the hall door.

Kenny pulls a silver coin out of his pocket and tosses it on the table, getting up and walking out the door.

There was a black half-canopy carriage parked on the side of the street, two tall black horses looked of good blood, the guy in the coarse cloth coat in the morning sat in the groom's place, at this time he changed his outfit, white short shirt with black silk wool mixed coat and trousers, even his hair was neatly groomed, if he hadn't seen this guy before, Kenny would have thought that this was some aristocratic groom.

Seeing Kenny coming out of the inn hall, Brown got off his horse, his elegant movements definitely deceived nine out of ten pedestrians on the road, he wore white gloves, and bowed slightly to Kenny, "Lord Nikon, it's time for the ball, let's go." ā€

Kenny stepped into the carriage, Brown shook the reins, and the carriage headed for Taylor Manor.

"I suddenly forgot, what's your name?" asked Kenny, looking at Brown, who was driving the carriage in front of him.

"My name, my name is Brown, sir. ā€

"I'm curious, who the hell are you?" Kenny asked, looking at the receding streetscape around him.

"We may never see each other again after tonight, and tomorrow the sun rises, and I am still a poor man, and you are at least a baron. Brown said self-deprecatingly.

"Where did you steal this car?"

"You should ask where you borrowed it from, because you are also in this carriage. Brown said with a smile.

"If I'm not mistaken, this should be some aristocratic lady's car, it smells so good, hehe. Kenny said and patted the velvet seat cushion on the car.

At a gallop, the carriage came to the iron gate of Taylor Manor, the guards at the door seemed to be a different group, Brown drove the carriage to the door, the two guards in front of the door saluted the carriage respectfully, Brown took out a yellowed sheepskin invitation from his arms and handed it to the guard.

"I'm sorry, but the person in the car doesn't seem to be the Earl's wife, is he?" the guard handed back the invitation to Brown.

"The Countess has something to do for the time being, this is the Earl of Norton's honored guest, soldier, and I kindly remind you that if you talk too much, you may be hung on the gallows. Brown said with a serious expression.

"I'm sorry!" the guard took two steps back, and the iron door slowly opened.

With his head held high, Brown drove into Taylor's Manor, and they followed a large bluestone road to the Manor Castle.

"Lord Nikon, I'm waiting for you outside, hoping that one of your gold coins isn't in vain. Brown smiled and said to Kenny, who stepped out of the carriage.

Kenny turned and walked into the manor, just as the sun had just set, and a row of pine resin braziers had lit up on either side of the castle road, and by each brazier stood a soldier in armor, almost the same height, which could be seen to have been carefully screened.

On the ground leading to the main hall, the cobblestones and flower rock gravel are colorful and messy, but in fact they are a perfect masterpiece of the combination of experienced craftsmen. Walking up dozens of steps, the dark brown carpet stretched all the way to the main hall, the majestic door had been opened, Kenny stepped on the soft carpet into the main hall, and the guard at the door suddenly reached out to stop Kenny.
