Chapter 016: Omniscient
As the vast plains gave way to the Misty Jungle, Sersi, who was at the front of the line, stood by and wondered if he was on the wrong track. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. ο½ο½ο½Uο½Eγ ο½ο½ο½ο½
From here, there was a long, narrow road barely enough for three horses to drive side by side, and the road was lined with thick tree trunks, not as leafy as the old forest, but it was enough to obscure the clouds and disorient those who walked through it, and more importantly, Sersi had no idea if the road in front of him led to Assyria.
"You've stopped three times. Alan whispered.
"I think we should go back to the village and find a local who knows the way to show us the way," Mike suggested, "and I bet we'll have to spend the night in the jungle tonight if we continue like this." β
"Be quiet, you two!" Sersi lifted the blindfold upward.
Alan looked at Sersi's injured eyes and didn't say much more.
"I kind of regret it, man. Mike looked at the silent Alan and opened his mouth.
"I've only walked this path once, but it's always the right direction!" Exclaimed Sersi with a displeasure, turning his head.
"I'm not complaining about getting lost. Mike tried to explain, "I've been wondering if it's wrong to leave Nina there alone, after all, Kenny handed her over to me in the first place, if something happened to her....."
"We didn't leave her there alone. Alan reminded him, "Aiden, Winnie, and Mio are all there, and there are a thousand well-trained guards, and although they will go to search for Kenny during the day, at least a hundred will be left to protect them." β
"That's right, not to mention that the place is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and no one will go there. Sersi added, then pointed ahead, "I'm sure it's the road, but it might be a little tricky, but it's a shortcut, and we won't run into the Iron Forest, we need to hurry, before the sun goes down, I don't want to spend the night in the forest!"
Alan tugged at the reins, Mike kicked the horse's belly, and a mighty team burrowed into the narrow path of the jungle.
As Sersi explains, this jungle trail in southern Assyria was a real stretch, with a procession of thousands of men crammed into a long winding line, lined with dwarf foliage that required them to bend their heads and thick vines on the ground entwining the roots, making the already rugged journey even more bumpy.
When the sun was about to set, they walked out of the jungle and appeared in front of them.
"Looks like it's the main city of Assyria?" asked Alan, standing on his horse and looking at the towering buildings in the sunset.
"That's right!" Selcy grabbed the reins, "That's the city in the woods, Assyria!"
"Oh! that's bustling!" Mike smacked his mouth.
"Guys, from now on, we're going to have to brace ourselves!" Selsey shook the reins and trotted the horse under his crotch.
"I guess those guys will hang us and hang our bodies on some spire building until they rot. Mike caught up and said worriedly.
"Hey, man, say something auspicious!" Selsey pouted, "The worst-case scenario is a war between the two armies, don't forget, we have five thousand soldiers with us!"
"Don't worry, it's nowhere near worse than we think. Alan relieved. He stared at the approaching gates, where a pair of eyes seemed to be staring at them.
"Yes, usually it's just worse than you think!" Mike quipped, driving the horse to trot. As the distance approached, the buildings that first came into view gradually became clear.
In contrast to the city of Nippur, the city of Assyria is located on a higher ground in the forest, and the typical Romance architecture is far more magnificent than Nippur, whether it is the pointed arches of the taller buildings, the ribbed vaults, or the countless intricately carved spires that rise on top of each other, all of which reveal the rich history of the ancient city.
By the city gate, a man dressed in a fine costume with a pointed monkey cheek stood there with his hands behind his back, as if waiting for them.
The group dismounted at the city gate, and contrary to expectations, the guards on both sides of the city gate did not step forward to stop them, and did not even give them a single eye.
On the other hand, there were as many as 5,000 people in this group of strange guests, and they were magnificent, equipped with horses, like a siege of the city, which could not help but surprise the three of them.
The man took two steps forward and stopped before Allen, who spun and dismounted. "Presumably you're Lord Alan Dalton, aren't you?" he asked, smiling, in a gentle tone.
Alan rolled his eyes. "Yes, I'm Alan Dalton. He stared at the man's chin in front of him and moved his eyebrows, "Who are you?"
"Kunti Khandid, in your capacity, I am the Chancellor of the Exchequer of Assyria. The man replied, then lowered his voice and smiled mysteriously, "Lord Allen, I've been waiting for you here for a long time. β
"Wait for us?" Alan looked at the man alarmingly, "I didn't understand, what are you talking about?"
"You brought a gift to the King of Assyria, didn't you?" Quenti turned his head slightly, looking at the large sack on Mike's horse.
Alan felt a chill run down his spine, and then looked at Mike beside him. "I'm sorry, Mistress Quanti. He looked back, "Excuse me, how do you know?"
"The Consul knew everything!" Quanti smiled and stared at Allen, "Honestly, you have killed at least two thousand Iron Groves in the territory of Nipur, and the King wanted to capture you alive and hang you on the tower, but the good Consul has learned of everything, and he admires you very much, so you have come here alive." He paused, then added, "You must have heard his name, right?"
"Of course, White, the ruler of Assyria, all of Nipur have heard his name!" Alan lied, and then wondered, "We have never met, how can he appreciate me?"
"Trick Barton, Lord of the Demon City, with a ruby, and single-handedly help Kenny Dalton overthrow the Dark Regime, and it's the witchcraft that will bring the dead back to life. Quinti narrowed her eyes, "It's not true, but you've already made a name for yourself, Lord Allen!"
"Oh! so I'm so famous?!" Alan scratched his nose, "Master Quanti, I brought to the King of Assyriaβ"
"Lord Allen!" Quanti raised his voice, "I just said that the Archon knew everything!" he reached out to the pocket on Mike Horse's back, "Throw that false lord's head away! I can smell the corpse as I stand here!"
Alan put away his smile, became serious, and then smiled. "We seem to have done something stupid. "Nothing seems to be able to slip through the eyes of Master White." β
"You're right!" Quanti raised his chin, "Lord Allen, the Ruling King has been waiting for you for a long time, and he has something he wants to ask the three of you. β
