(73) Karma (Sean Tumble)
Sean stood on the platform at the top of the volcanic castle, with a slight coolness, and the spring breeze that seemed to imply the fragrance of flowers swept across the hills, which just reflected his mood at this time - anticipation and anxiety coexisted. After the peace treaty was signed, most of the 'resurrected' members of the Crows followed Isaac and Pierce to join their companions in the Church, while others temporarily took him a vacation to return home to see their relatives or children. Considering that it would be difficult to have another war in the near future, and that the Knights' rebuilding was quite far away, Sean readily agreed to their request.
Instead of immediately returning to the Cult, he accepted Yuphe's invitation to take a break from the dwarven stronghold. He was joined by Alaya, Cathy, and some of their subordinates, including a member of the group named Harlan, Cathy's longtime lover. Just yesterday, the lively female corps commander told him that they were already planning to get married.
This is undoubtedly an encouragement to him. Therefore, the day before yesterday afternoon, he proposed to Alaia to meet here today. However, to his slight disappointment, the Erna woman did not immediately agree to his invitation, only saying that she would consider taking a look.
This is actually very inconsistent with her calm and refreshing personality all the time, Sean doesn't know what the problem is, and it is inconvenient to ask directly. He had to promise that he would go to the appointment, and then wait here on time.
There was the sound of soft footsteps behind him, and he turned back with anticipation, only to see the face of another woman. Despite the addition of what appeared to be a canine ear, he easily recognized the other as a female mercenary who had 'duel' with him in the Battle of Hollycastle and who called herself Lily Nono.
"Hey." The mercenary waved at him and walked straight over, "I didn't expect you to have this leisure and elegance?" β
Sean didn't know how to answer, but shook his head with a wry smile, "Just come out and relax." β
The mercenary narrowed her eyes at him. Those two sharp gazes inexplicably made Sean feel a little like a wolf.
"Until now, you still regard the matter of Holly Castle as your sin?"
Sean was silent for a moment, then nodded a little bitterly. Although it had nothing to do with what he was currently worried about, it was indeed a knot in his heart that he still could not unravel.
"I know it's a ridiculous idea. If...... If I had made a decision earlier, or had been braver, and had sacrificed a small amount in exchange for the results, maybe Holly wouldn'tβ"
"Then it's not you." Lily interrupted him mercilessly, "Tell us what you would do if you were to return to that moment again?" β
"Of course it isβ" Sean paused suddenly, he thought hard, only to find that either option was unpredictable. There is no one path that can be sure to lead to a perfect ending.
"You don't know, right?" The mercenary grinned like a wolf, "In that case, how dare you say that the current situation must not be the best outcome?" Some stories can't be a reunion. β
Sean nodded knowingly. Of course, he understood that Lily was only reassuring him, and that the current situation was clearly not the best - but not the worst.
"And also, you--the thing with that little girl named Alaya." The female mercenary said in an old-fashioned tone, but she inexplicably didn't feel disobedient, "Don't always feel that you owe her, you know, she still feels that she owes you." You're hiding from each other like this, will you just let your prey slip out of your hands in vain? β
Sean blinked, feeling like he understood Lily's words, but for a moment he wasn't sure about it.
"Okay, show you this." The mercenary took a round mirror from her bosom and tapped it twice on the back. Soon, its front rippled, revealing a scene from another place, as well as the sound of two men conversing.
Sean listened to it very well, and the two people who were talking to it were Alaya and Yufie. He hurried closer and looked closely at the scene in the mirror.
"So, what do you think of Mr. Sean?"
"He's strong. This time, he did a much better job than I could have imagined. Alaya answered Yuffie's question softly, Sean couldn't see her look clearly, but he could feel a hint of sadness in his voice, "Originally, I thought he just had some talent. After what happened now, he was enough to be called the head of the regiment alone. β
"I wonder if Mr. Sean will be happy to hear this." The girl smiled and said, "In that case, what are you waiting for?" A perceptive person like you should have already noticed Sean's feelings for you, right? β
"I didn't think he was mature enough." The Erna woman sighed softly, "And now...... I'm not human anymore. In the teachings of Mar, I am a life that should not exist. It's just that the current situation of the crow makes it impossible for me to choose to go back to sleep. β
The pink girl smiled and shook her head, her tone soft and firm.
"Lady Alaya, what do you think is human? Or rather, what is a human being? β
Alaya bit her lip and didn't answer immediately.
"The Kamals, the Elna, the Beron, the Saatchi, the Fritz, they all have different qualities, but they all belong to the human race." Yuffie continued to whisper, "Lily is a living god, Alphonse is a mystical creature, and I am very different from normal people - but we all have human hearts. And you, what's the difference? β
"We can't choose the race we were born into, and we may not be able to change the fate that has happened, but I believe that every intelligent being has the right to decide how he wants to live his life and to pursue his own happiness."
"Because only in this way, after living a full and beautiful life, can we go to sleep with satisfaction." Yuffie bowed her head slightly, "That's what Eda told me - perhaps, that's what Mal wanted, too. Your mother won't want to see you come back with regrets, right? β
"I see." Alaya replied softly, "Let me ...... a little Think about it for a moment. β
"Then I'll take my leave." The pink girl stood up and walked towards the exit of the room. Sean clearly heard the words she left behind as she walked out the doorβ
"Have a good time with him, Lady Alaya."
"How?" Lily smiled and stared at him contentedly, "Aren't we right?" β
Sean nodded, his heart suddenly lightened, "I understand." This time, though, I still left the choice to her. This is an agreement between us. β
"Then it's up to you." Lily waved her hand disappreciatively, "Let's not bother you." β
So he was the only one left on the rooftop. After all, it's early spring daytime, and it's only in summer and autumn that it comes alive at night.
I don't know how long it took, and the sound of footsteps came from Sean's back again, light and clean. He didn't even have to look back to confirm the identity of the person who came.
"Alaya." He whispered, turning around at the same time, "You're here." β
"Yes." The Erna woman replied softly, "Can you tell me why you asked me to come here?" β
"Of course." Sean bowed slightly, greeting him with the courtesy of Mar, "I swear in the presence of Mal's mother that I will be with Aliya Sillena for the rest of my life until the end of one of them. β
He held out his left hand to the Erna woman, palm up. Alaya smiled and approached, placing her left hand on top of the outstretched palm.
That's the agreement.
The remaining apprehension finally dissipated, and a relaxed smile appeared on Sean Tumble's face again, "Thank you, Alaya. β
"The people you should thank are Yuffie and Lily." The Erna woman shook her head, "We wouldn't be here without their help all the time. β
"Of course. They are the benefactors of the two of us, and the entire Order of the Crows. Sean softly agreed, "But before then, I have one more important thing to do. β
The Erna woman raised her eyebrows.
"It's a Kamal ritual." Sean smiled. Then he came closer, lowered his head slightly, and gently imprinted his somewhat dry lips on the other's lips.
