(106) Mission (Leia, II)
Unlike Wei Feng, Leia returns to his hometown at least once a year to meet his elders, childhood friends, and their children. He used the resources of the "Tubu" to help them as much as he could, witnessing the villagers gradually abandon their sorrows, get out of their predicament, and start an ordinary and prosperous life again.
Even if at some unknown time, for some tacit reason, there began to be a barrier between them that was difficult to see, but always existed, this habit never stopped.
He often reminisced about the carefree days of his childhood, and on more than one occasion wondered if his life would have been very different if it had not been for the tragedy of that night.
Maybe he won't be in the Pale Hand, and he won't be a Ranger. Instead, they grew up, worked, married, had children, and lived happily and peacefully in a village of no more than a few hundred or thousands of people.
But this time it has nothing to do with any of these. Perhaps it was too boring, but he seemed to hear the voices of his mother and father, who had been deliberately forgotten for many years.
It seemed like something from the everyday. The father asked the mother what she wanted to eat that day, and the mother asked the father to bring everything before going out, and so on. Or the whispers of the two of them when they are side by side, many of them are related to him. They envision the future of the three of them, their own growth, and the things that need to be accomplished to do so.
Leia wasn't sure if it was her own delusion. There were words he had never heard before, but they felt very familiar and reasonable. Maybe humans have good memories when they were young, but what they heard and saw was buried somewhere and only now has it been unearthed.
A sudden, blade-like aura came from outside the tavern, ripping Leia out of her fantasy - the man he had been waiting for had finally returned.
Instantaneously knew how to hide his aura, but when he returned to his own city, he had always disdained to do so. The young ranger turned his face sideways, looked out of the window, and saw the black-clad figure striding across the square with a long knife on his back and a burlap bag in his hand. From time to time, a liquid dripped from the bottom of the bag, submerged into the sand of the square, and was evaporated by the scorching air in a matter of seconds.
He didn't act immediately. Rushing forward now will only alert the other party, and in such an open space, it is impossible to prevent the "Shadow King" from escaping. He slowly drank the liquid from the cup, paid the money, touched his belly, and then walked out of the tavern contentedly, towards the east side of the city.
Soon, the young ranger came to a row of dilapidated huts, took the key from his pocket, opened the door to one of the rooms, stepped inside, and quietly closed the door.
The houses are simply furnished, and the thick dust means that it has been uninhabited for a long time. Leia walked around the four walls, crouched down by the north wall, drew the dagger at his waist, and carefully pried open a piece of the square-shaped floor that led to reveal a deep hole that led below.
He lit a fire in his palm and carefully walked down the passage. This tunnel is the work of a former member of the "Earth", and although his control of the land is far less than that of Yu Feng, digging a tunnel that connects to the underground of the "Shadow" is not enough for his friends.
The passage quickly split into several sections, and Leia chose the direction he was going from memory until he reached the bottom of the position he had identified. He extinguished the flame in his hand, closed his eyes, and breathed evenly, trying to sense the faint message coming from above. Using these to distinguish the specific person is one of the skills taught to him by the leader of the "Fog Department" of the previous generation.
At first there was nothing. After about half a day, several people came to the top of his head and stayed for a short time, as if they were making some preparations. He shook his head to himself, and simply half-lay down to relax his body a little more and avoid consuming too much air—there were vents in the tunnels that connected to the ground, but they were some distance from his current position, so the tunnels were still a little stuffy.
It wasn't until the middle of the night that the aura of Nag, which he was extremely familiar with, finally appeared above the tunnel. Leia sat up cautiously and swallowed, suppressing a hint of warlike intent in her heart. The best time has not yet come, and he must continue to endure.
The young ranger further restrained his breath. He imagined the "Shadow King" pacing slowly overhead, to the center of the room, clasping his hands to his chest, and quietly offering prayers to the gods he worshipped. After a long time, the other party opened his eyes, cut a wound in the palm of his hand with a dagger, and let his blood drip onto the altar on the ground, and then put his palms together again-
The breath of fresh blood brought Leia to his senses - and this was the moment he was waiting for. He silently chanted the incantation, igniting clusters of orange-red fires around him as he pulled the one-foot-long silver spear from his bosom and ran his fingers over the runes engraved on it.
Silverspear sensed his master's will, and in the blink of an eye, he returned to his original form. Leia walked to the end of the tunnel, pushed open the stone slab that hid the passage, and leaped out of the tunnel, his eyes locked on the figure who was praying with his eyes closed, and the spear stabbed with all his might.
But at the moment when the tip of the spear almost touched the opponent's body, the "Shadow King" in Leia's eyes suddenly disappeared.
- The other party had been prepared for a long time, and may have even anticipated his attack. But before the thought could cross his mind, the young ranger's body took the first step to act.
Orange flames spread out around his mind, orderly and evenly arranged on the ceiling. This not-so-spacious chamber suddenly seemed like day, and dozens of dancing flames intertwined with each other, dispelling all the shadows together.
At the same time, he quickly stepped to the side, the spear in his hand piercing the air and whistling across the area. With the piercing sound of metal clashing, the moment wrapped in black clothes appeared again, staggered back a few steps, and looked like he had suffered a small loss.
"I thought it was...... It's you, the 'betrayer'. He glanced at Leia with a cold gaze and held the long knife across his chest, "Why, this time I finally figured it out, and I was going to give you a good time?" ”
The young ranger didn't bother to answer, but silently adjusted the position of the flames, making sure that no part of the entire chamber was contaminated with shadows.
The "Shadow King" has the ability to lurk in any dark area or in the shadow of an object. He can also teleport from one shadow to another - somewhat similar to Shadow Walking, but much faster. Of course, the way to crack it is also very straightforward, as long as the shadow 'ceases to exist'.
It's easy to say, but it's not easy to do. Light and shadow have always coexisted, and the shadows are more conspicuous under the midday sun. The only possibility he found was to place a large number of light sources in a small space, allowing the light from different locations to dispel the shadows left by the rest of the light sources.
