Session 1: Objectives (M)

Section 1: Objectives (Medium

In terms of defense, the March tribe is very dedicated and has set itself up as an example for local powers.

Its main camp, as much as possible to imitate the style of an inland town, had wooden fences and watchtowers, and a fixed guard. In addition, about twenty miles around the main camp, they set up four small camps in a circle, relying on the river.

These small camps of about 1,000 people not only solve the problem that the entire tribe is difficult to live in, but also provide protection and early warning for the central camp. Because of the proximity to each other and the advantage of terrain, it was impossible for the enemy to bypass the small camp no matter what direction the enemy attacked, while the central camp could quickly mobilize troops to support......

Unfortunately, because they had just eliminated their local rivals, Chief March took the vast majority of his troops with them during a triumphant midsummer hunt, presumably to show off their might against the other tribes, leaving behind an empty camp of defenses.

The main force was not at home, and they didn't even put a few more eyeliners around the camp, which was very perfunctory. But Townsend likes to fight this kind of ill-armed opponent most - because war is a brutal struggle between you and you live, so there is no need for a reason to bully the enemy

In the early morning of the third day of the landing, the sneak attack force of the Thorn Rose had cleared the perimeter and lurked in the hills on the south side of the March tribe. The soldiers hurried to finish their pre-battle meal and then rested on the orders of the officers. Because the troops had been trained in the past, there were very few abnormal situations -- they had to travel more than 100 miles a day to bypass those scattered small tribal settlements, and the whole unit had not been left behind, and the soldiers still maintained a relatively high fighting spirit.

Rows of soldiers rested in the fields, non-commissioned officers roamed lightly through the ranks to check their equipment, and Townsend led his senior officers to the highest hill nearby, donning camouflage suits. The officers in charge of each branch and link stood on the edge of the grove at the top of the mountain, looking at this peaceful field with their commanders.

What a good piece of land

The hill beneath your feet is the edge of the southern hills, and from here the fertile flat land stretches on both sides and in front of you, creating an oval-shaped, endless plain. The terrain is gentle, with a slight uplift in the center of the plain.

The two rivers flow out of the hills to the north and west, make seven or eight bends in the plains, and finally converge in a direction easterly from the center. During this period, three wetlands and seven large and small lakes were connected. Irrigated by two rivers, the plain is lush and full of life. There are six roads leading in all four directions, but none of them are in great condition.

The farmland cultivated by the Maqi people accounts for less than one-thirtieth of the arable area, and the location is convenient and how to come, like a plaster, one by one here and there, and it is impossible to see that there has been a plan at all.

The main camp of the March was located five miles from the confluence of the rivers, but perhaps because they could not afford to modify the river, or because they were more concerned about the terrain, their main camp was placed squarely on the high ground in the center of the plain. The scale of the main camp is actually not large, and it is a small town if it is placed inland, so the wooden fence is still quite far from the river, and the river cannot be included in the effective defense system.

Come to think of it, the indigenous tribes of the 10,000 people must have limited capacity in terms of construction. Fortunately, they also made a remedy, which was to set up small camps in four directions. If the main camp is a town, the size of the small camp is the village, and they are nailed to the four corners of the main camp - the distance between the main camp and the small camp is about fifteen li for the shortest and no more than twenty li for the long.

This arrangement of one core and four supports is like an umbrella for the entire March tribe, and when they cooperate with each other, the depth of defense will be expanded many times, and it can also make the limited defense force more tenacious and flexible...... But for the ill-intentioned Thorn Rose, the defense system formed by these five camps is not so easy to gnaw. If you further consider the number of the March tribe, as well as the number of Thorn Roses, it is not a question of whether it is good or not.

Thinking that Townshend's strategy was a sneak attack, the officers were all full of sadness when they saw the scene in front of them. And this is no wonder, because the officers do not know the strength of the enemy, and at the same time, they do not know their own strength.

Townsend naturally took in the officers' expressions.

Frankly speaking, this battle, and even the series of battles that followed, Townsend had already made a plan in his mind - in his distant memory, the history of the Red Empire's conquest was extremely rich, and he could solve the current situation by finding a war example.

The officers had not been doing this for long, and they had encountered such a complicated situation that it was impossible to think of any good solution. But Townsend did not hold the meeting to solicit the opinions of his subordinates, but to let them use their brains. As long as they start to think about the problem, then they will experience and carefully understand Towngson's tactics in the next battle, and the value of this battle will come out.

Townshman, with a serious face, picked up a twig and pointed to the plain in front of him and began to explain. This lecture lasted almost a full hour.

For officers with bright heads, Townsend will propose some accidents for them to simulate to deal with, and for those who are not so good-headed, Townsend will simplify their tasks, ask them to link "a certain situation" with "what they want to do", remember when to advance, when to retreat, when to shout or desperate...... Strive to achieve a turnip and a pit, and never let people be idle on the battlefield.

Gathered around Townsend, listening to Townsend's teachings, the confusion on the faces of the officers gradually disappeared, they kept nodding their heads, and kept asking questions, gradually becoming confident, and some even waited for the end of the meeting to be ready to try.

Finally, Townsend waved his hand and declared the meeting over. His men saluted solemnly and scattered in all directions, running down the paths towards their troops. Townsend turned away again, silently looking at the field in front of him.

The whip in his hand tapped lightly against his shins, slowly, but with a strange rhythm.

On the lurking position of the "Big Brother Yaheng" guard, a small man stood up from the weeds, lowered his voice and said to the approaching big officer: "What is it like in front? Is it like Snow Valley?"

โ€œ...... It's a standard farming tribal settlement, and we're sure to come across it again in the future. The leader showed us that the small village surrounded the big village, and no matter what direction we chose, we couldn't get around it, and the big village could support them at any time. Moreover, the small village also has a walled wall, and if we don't invest in it, we will really not be able to gnaw it down for a while. โ€

"Isn't thatโ€”terrible?" the little man's voice lowered, "We ran so far to sneak attack, but now the situation is that as soon as we show up, we will make a strong attack." Do you want to wait for a sneak attack at night?"

"I said the same thing just now, what do you think the chief will say?" Yaheng learned from Townsend's tone and demeanor and said to the little man: "A night attack is a good idea, but the current goal is one large and four small, the battlefield is wide, and the enemy situation is complicated. If we do not suppress the enemy's resistance in a short period of time and drag it into a war of attrition, the unfamiliar environment and terrain will be even more unfavorable to us. โ€

"Ahh

"Stupid" Yaheng smiled to himself, and took out what he had just learned to show off: "The battle will become a strong attack from the beginning of us, and this strong attack is the opposite of our strategy. Because the purpose of sneak attack operations is to find ways to avoid heavy casualties, these casualties must be passed on to the enemy. โ€

โ€œ...... I don't understand......" The little man shook his head blankly.

"In this kind of place, we have to take advantage of their blind conditions, find a way to seduce them, get them out of the village on their own, and then rob them halfway through - but this is a new problem. Yaheng made a gesture and learned the leader's posture for five or six points.

"Fighting the March tribe in front of you is just the beginning of a series of battles. Our real purpose is to send a vague warning signal to March's outing troops. This is their lair, so they will immediately turn around and save it, but the hunting ground is no more, no less, more than two hundred miles away, and by the time they get there, they will become dead dogsโ€”that's when we will be in power. โ€

"Ah...... I seem to get ......."

"It's good that you understand, the leader said, the fight is not a problem, the key is in the process of fighting, so that they can't deliver accurate messages. Yaheng patted the little man on the shoulder: "Arnold, your task is this, you have to block the wolf smoke of the March tribe to transmit news over long distances." โ€

"How do you block that thing?" Arnold was anxious when he heard it: "People can just find a place to order, should I pee and water it?"

"Who the hell made you pee?" the chief said, we can't help them light cigarettes, but we can also go around and light wolf smoke and we can multip, remember, now we are the vicious tribal robbers - so here's the solution, we set fire to a village, take advantage of the rescue of the troops in the central camp, and then start harassing everywhere and driving them out. โ€

"Understood" Arnold nodded repeatedly: "I'll gather people to go"

"Keep a snack. Yaheng finally confessed: "Pay attention to the timing of Quinny's attack. โ€

"Got it, I'll take notice. โ€

When Arnold began to get busy, in the rest place of the light infantry team not far away, a puzzled question sounded: "Sir, just drive them out, don't you have to kill them?"

"The leader said, if you don't give people a way to live, others will fight with you, and we don't need to suffer casualties in this link. Besides, it's good to drive people into the field to clean up, let them run to exhaustion first, and then whatever you want + passion...... And when sniping, be careful, you have to let some people run out to promote for us. โ€

The captain of the second light infantry team, Aifuri, was standing among the non-commissioned officers to explain the tactics.

"As the final key to this battle, we must not fight in the name of Thorn Rose, but in the name of the Vahu tribe, and the Vahu tribe will be the first to show their faces, and we will create a situation where the slaves of the Vahu tribe are rebelling inside and outside - this 'truth' will make their troops outside become angry and lose their judgment while underestimating the enemy. โ€

"Anyway, you should treat them as if they were hunting, first to exhaust them and to their madness, and then to kill them at last," his men surrounded him, their bewildered faces slowly thoughtful, just like Avery himself not long ago, "We have to prepare carefully, and when the Vahu side begins, we will almost be ready to play." โ€

As for the Vahu that Avery was talking about, he was in the grove near the front line, pestle to explain the tactics to his immediate subordinates. Unlike the other officers, Vahu's expression was fierce, and his eyes were full of longing for battle. Of course, the tactical arrangement he explained had just been learned from Townsend.

"The leader is watching us, the brothers are also watching us, we are the first wave, the responsibility is very heavy, do you have the confidence to do it well?"

"Yes, there must be" The subordinates nodded again and again: "Leave it to me, the chief can rest assured." โ€

"Twenty of us are very important, my primary goal is to save people, save people first, and shout slogans when they are discovered, and the content will be taught to you later. Wahu said: "Move quickly, start hard, this is desperate, you know?"

"Understood" one of his subordinates asked, "but we don't know where ...... people are"

"The leader specially arranged for the elite brothers to engage in intelligence in the front, and the sky is already dawning, and you are afraid that no one will come out to do something?" Wahu said firmly: "We must believe in our brothers, if our brothers are not elite, then he should die in other armies."

As the sky began to lighten, smoke began to rise from the five camps, the morning people began to prepare for the day's work, and the housewives called the family to eat with shouts or curses.

Among the local natives, the March tribe was considered very wealthy, so their people could eat two meals a day. Some families have a dining table and are placed in the courtyard to eat, but some people do not have this kind of treatment, so they can only nibble on raw and cold coarse grains and drink cold water to cope with the past; and still others need to eat the worst food while staggering out of the village -- some have to graze livestock, some have to go out.

In less than an hour, the monkeys had arrested more than forty people, men, women, and children, and even a little shepherd boy from the Wahu tribe. The little boy who returned to the arms of his relatives cried so much that he almost choked to death from the military rations with salt and sugar. But he finally remembered where he and the other slaves lived, and showed them to Vahu.

Knowing so much from the little boy's mouth, Vahu was so angry that he lay on his stomach in his lurking position, clenching his fists and struggling to endure - he had to wait because the troops in charge of outflanking were not yet in place, because the spearhead in charge of infiltration had not yet signaled.

"Let's go, Vahu, go through the gate. Townsend received the signal and ordered softly: "Remember, you are going to fight hard. โ€
