285. Watching a play
Barnimend shifted his focus, took a few steps forward and stared at Dewey and asked, "You have such a point of view, which proves that you can think, so what is the point of your thinking? What is the difference between you and a stone that doesn't need to eat or earn money? Why is it fun for you to stand here and listen to other people's talk?"
When Amon saw this scene, he hurriedly stepped forward and grabbed Parmenides and said, "It turns out that what I just relayed was the question of Socrates, and I have heard of this name. You ask me again if I am from Plato's Academy, and may I ask you about another sage from Plato's Academy, whose name is Aristotle. ”
Barimander replied, "Oh, he is no longer in Aaron, but is said to have gone to the kingdom of Macedonia to be a court teacher, far from here. As he spoke, he still wanted to ask questions after Dewey, who was about to leave, and Amon took the opportunity to disappear into the crowd in the square.
...... The next day, Aesop said to Amun, "My gods, the Aarons also like to watch all kinds of plays, and the stories of the gods are performed on the stage by mortals, which is different from the vaudeville of entertainers from other countries in the Tianshu Continent. Such performances might be considered blasphemous if they were in Eju or Hati, but the Arons loved to see them. ”
Amon asked with great interest, "Oh, I also heard yesterday that there is a special theater where people put on costumes and perform stories about the gods and the world, how did it first come about?"
Aesop replied, "It also originated from the discussion of the people in the temple square, and the clever artists made a play about the gods that they heard in the temple square and showed it to passers-by, and the result was very popular. Later, there were sages who wrote plays for artists to perform in the theater, which was one of the favorite entertainment of the people of the city. ”
Medanzo interjected: "I went out for a walk yesterday, and I heard that there are now three playwrights who are the most famous in their plays, and they write all tragedies, and they have earned enough men's sighs and women's tears, and I want to see them." ”
Amon nodded, "Okay, let's go to the theater together!" I have never seen such a performance, and there has never been a theater like this in other city-states. ”
Aesop was the "old man" and rode in the carriage, Medanzo was the "guard", and followed the carriage majestically on horseback, and Amon was still an inconspicuous coachman, and drove the carriage to one of the most lively theaters in the city of Aaron. Isol asked for the best seats, and the play that will be released today is Prometheus.
At the beginning, a group of artists on the stage should be playing the role of a divine envoy, singing a poem praising the gods, which is no different from the scene where the countries of the Tianshu Continent praise the gods, except that ordinary people replace the identity of the divine envoys on the stage. Amon just watched with a smile, and after a while, he gradually became fascinated, because the "gods" appeared.
This is a story about the birth of the Olympus god system, according to Amon's knowledge of the Olympian god line, Zeus fused the original world god kingdom, thus creating the current Olympus kingdom. This process was also accompanied by a battle of the gods, and unlike the war of the gods of Anunna, Zeus sought a higher achievement than the creator god.
Human legends are expressed in a way that people can understand, but in Amun's opinion, Prometheus was supposed to be the god of the losing side in the battle of the gods and the antagonist of Zeus. In the myths and legends of the world, there is a vague hint that he has the equivalent of the creation god or higher, which surprises Amun.
Because in the story, Prometheus mixed the earth with river water and made it into the form of a man in the image of the gods, and the god of wisdom, Alenna, gave the form of the earth a soul that could think, so there was the first man. This alludes to a background, that is, the earliest creator god of the Olympian god system is not Zeus, generally in the mythology of various places, the so-called creator is the original creator god, and Prometheus is just a name with a representative surname.
The next story on the stage is a rendition of the world, and it is more interesting. Prometheus, as a god, favored humans and did not hesitate to deceive the gods for the sake of humans, which angered Zeus, who decided not to give the fire to the world. And Prometheus, against the decision of the Lord of the Gods, stole the fire from heaven with a fennel branch and brought it to earth.
Seeing this, Amon couldn't help but smile, he remembered the original Link's caveman tribe, a fire that was lit in a large cave and regarded it as a god worship, and also remembered the holy fire of light worshiped by the Poz Empire, which was related to the most primitive divine life and religious origin. Fire symbolizes light, warmth, protection and hope, and is also the beginning of people's spiritual enlightenment from ignorance.
In myths and legends everywhere, it is the gods who created the world and gave light and warmth, and this is no exception. But the playwright in the city of Aaron adapted the structure of the myth, and the spark became the fuse for the disagreement between the gods and the conflict between man and god, and sang the praises of a spirit of rebellion against the will of the gods.
Amun has another meaning in this story, which is unknown to the rest of the audience in the theater, which is what is called "name and true language" in the myth of Eju. The name refers to the achievement of the gods, and the true language refers to the method of obtaining this achievement, which for mortals is the secret of becoming a god, and Amun's personal experience confirms this process.
If the "tinder" in this play is replaced with the "name and true language" of the Eju myth, then the legend has another allusion. It seems to imply that Prometheus wanted to tell the world the secret of becoming a god, but Zeus did not want to make the guidance of the Origin Power public.
Whether such an incident had really happened, Amon did not know, he did not know much about the secrets of the Olympian gods, and the stage was just a human drama. He couldn't help but ask Aesop, "Someone can write such a play, which shows that the legend has been circulating for a long time, and as far as you know the legend, what kind of god is Prometheus?"
Aesop frowned and replied, "When I was a child, I heard the ancient legend that Prometheus was a sinner among the gods, who deceived the gods by intrigue and trickery, so he was punished by Zeus and imprisoned in chains forever. ...... And the drama we see clearly re-enacts the myth, giving the deity another image, giving the legend another interpretation. ”
Amon was slightly moved and said: "Sinners, the story of this play should have the earliest origin, such a god should belong to the defeated side of the ancient battle of the gods of the Olympian god system." The "humans" created by Prometheus are also implying that believers in the gods of the defeated side, like my ancestors, the people of Duketown. ”
Medanzo touched his nose and said, "When you say that, it's really similar! If it weren't for the myth of Olympus, if it was replaced by the legend of the Anunnaqi gods, I really thought it was hinting at the story of Duk Town." If Prometheus is not the god of the defeated side, but one of those sinners, that is almost an allusion to your story. ”
Amon smiled slightly: "In the world under the sun, there is always a shadow of déjà vu, this play makes you think of me, but it may not be me, it is just a story made up by a sage." I'm just curious, why did the person who wrote this play have to incorporate a new legend on the continent and change this myth?"
Amun was asking, and Aesop replied, "Myths have the shadow of gods, but people can only circulate them in a way that they understand, and their own wishes are added to their circulars, and the same is true of many of the stories I have said. The person who wrote this play has not seen Zeus, but he has seen all kinds of people in the world. Those authorities whom people tried to resist but could not resist became the mythical fathers of the gods, and their desires became the acts of Prometheus. ”
Medanzo also replied: "The awe and longing of the people make them conceive of the gods, and the anger and dissatisfaction with the world make them question the gods." People aspire to have the same power and freedom as the gods, and sometimes, the unprovoked neighbor can turn into the Zeus of the play. ”
Amon was noncommittal and continued to watch the play. The performance that followed reminded him of the people of Duk Town, and the millennial suffering they had endured.
On stage, the "humans" were punished by Zeus. The gods of Olympus created a charming and lovely girl named Pandora, who came to the world with a magic box in her hand to tempt Prometheus' younger brother Epimetheus. Seduced, Epimetheus opens the box, and all kinds of plagues and disasters fly out of it. At the bottom of the box is "Hope", but Pandora closes it and leaves it in the box.
Seeing this, Amon asked again, "What's going on with this box?"
The box was merely made up by the playwright, but Amon clearly meant something else when he asked. Medanzo replied: "People fear the gods and the unknown, so they pray to the gods in their hearts for hope. People are dissatisfied with their situation and hate the gods who bring it all about. Hope and calamity became symbols of the gods, encompassing prayer and fear. ”
Aesop replied, "This is a protest that can be seen everywhere in the world, such as the hatred of tyrants, and it also contains the ultimate purpose of the protest, which is left in the magic box that has not yet been opened. ”
Amon stopped talking again, and Prometheus himself was the next to be punished on stage. Zeus ordered Prometheus to be locked to the cliff of the Caucasus Mountains for thirteen generations in the world. He was hungry and cold, and an eagle pecked at his internal organs every day, and the wounds healed, and he endured endless torment. There was a fruit tree on the cliff, and the delicious fruit bent the branches in front of Prometheus's eyes, and when he wanted to open his mouth to eat, a gust of wind would blow the branches away.
This time Amon didn't speak, but Aesop muttered to herself, "Hope is right in front of you, you can see it, but you can never reach it?"
Gradually, the play is coming to an end, ushering in the moment of liberation. A powerful demigod Hercules, the son of a god, passed by the Caucasus Mountains. Sympathetic to Prometheus' plight, the Hercules shot down the eagle that pecked at him with an arrow, and broke the chains to free Prometheus.
In the end, Prometheus and Zeus ended the confrontation and finally made peace, but Zeus still asked Prometheus to carry an iron ring with a stone locked on the cliff, symbolizing that he was still chained to the Caucasus.
Seeing this, Medanzo said to himself: "The person who wrote this play did not know what the existence of a demigod was, so he understood the demigod as the offspring of gods and people. ”
Aesop asked, "Is there really a strong man like Heracles?"
Medanzo replied: "Of course, I have seen it with my own eyes, such as Enqidu. ”
Amon didn't say anything more, and said to Aesop after the show: "Well, it's really worth seeing, come back tomorrow!"
...... The next day, Amon came to the theater again, and instead of sitting in the best seats with Aesop and Medanzo, he was an ordinary driver in the most crowded audience with a crowd of burlap clothes. Yesterday's play surprised Amun, but today's play shocked the god, called "Oedipus the King", is a story of ups and downs, thrilling.
On yesterday's stage, the gods appeared directly, but in today's play, the gods are only looming shadows, only revealed by oracles, and the stories take place in the kingdom of earth.
At the beginning of the show, the stage was also a familiar scene that had happened in many countries on the Tianshu Continent. When a plague broke out in a city-state called Thebes, King Oedipus ordered the priests to pray in the temple of Apollo, asking for help and deliverance from the gods and guiding the people through the disaster.
Apollo, the god of light and youth in the Olympian god lineage and the patron deity of the city-state, has a famous inscription on the walls of the temple of Apollo: "Know thyself." ”
Apollo sent an oracle to the city-state of Thebais: "Find out the sinners hiding in the city, punish the murderers of the previous kings, and the plague will be eliminated." ”
Then the scene of the second act turns into the queen's memories of the previous king. Oedipus was not the queen's first husband, the city-state's former king was killed by a strongman while he was away, and the son of the former king was abandoned as early as three days after birth, and the kingdom lost its heir.
Why did the first king abandon his son? It is also because Apollo had issued an oracle prophesiing that the first king would be killed by his own son. Why did the gods send down such oracles? Going back further, it turns out that the former king had been cursed by the gods for plundering the son of another king when he was young.
And where does the current king Oedipus come from? And then another scene changes on the stage, and it becomes Oedipus's memory.
Oedipus, the son of the king of another city-state, prayed to Apollo one day in the temple when he heard the voice of the gods saying that he would have the terrible fate of killing his father and marrying his mother. In order to fight against this fate and prevent the oracle from being fulfilled, Oedipus runs away from home and vows never to return. On the way, he encountered a group of people and had an unexpected confrontation, drew his sword and killed an arrogant nobleman, and came to the city-state of Thebais.
At that time, the city-state of Thebais was in the grip of a great disaster, and a sphinx stood by and asked passers-by a riddle that would be eaten if she couldn't answer it. The king of the city-state was recently killed by a strong man outside, and in order to save the city-state, it was decided that whoever could solve the puzzle and save the city-state from doom would marry the widow of the former king and inherit the throne.
Seeing this, Amon had already guessed what the playwright was going to write - Oedipus was the son of the first king, and the person he killed was the original king of the city-state of Thebais. The oracle may have symbolized fate, and the words inscribed on the walls of the temple of Apollo were at the source of the tragedy. People don't have the eyes that see everything like the gods, and Oedipus doesn't know where he came from, but he never gives up fighting against the fate foretold by the oracle.
At this moment, Amon noticed that there was a person in the front row of the audience whose head was more conspicuous, because he had a bald head, which was very rare in the city-state of Aaron, and had a blue scalp with fine hair stubble, and he did not look like he was born bald. Amun recognized this man as Vincenteb, who had walked with the immeasurable light in the Syrian desert and who had later met in the city of Salem, a transcendent being who had been guided in another way.
Amon was taken aback by the sudden sight of this man in the city of Aaron, and crowded into a position within reach. Vincent Tebu also sensed it, his shoulders tightened and he turned his head to recognize Amon, then nodded and smiled, and turned around to continue watching the play, but a voice came from his soul: "God Amon, how did you enter the Olympus Divine Domain? ”
Amon asked rhetorically in his soul, "Didn't you come too?"
Vincent replied: "I am only here to see the play, and I will not show or use any of your so-called miraculous means. ”
Amon: "I'm just here to see the play, and I don't show miracles. ”
Vincent: "Oh, then the gaze you just looked at me is not a mortal, and you have the power to penetrate the six senses. If I were an Olympian god, I might be alarmed or provoked by you. ”
Amon smiled, "I know you're not an Olympian god, you're just watching a play in the crowd like me." That's why I have that vision to confirm your identity. You can feel my soul-piercing gaze, is that a miracle?"
Vincent replied: "The guidance I have received is different from the path you are familiar with, I am only supernatural, different from what you call miracles. ”
As he spoke, a message from Amon's soul was imprinted: this cultivator called a certain method "supernatural power", but unlike the so-called miracles of the various god systems, it was only an extension of perception, and when this ability was possessed and used, it would not be superfluously touched in this world.
Vincent's explanation is very interesting, and it also has new inspirations for Amun - such as the so-called "eye penetration", which can see extremely far away, and even see certain scenes of the past and future, which is related to the cultivator's mana and realm. Among the methods at Amun's disposal, the Detection Divine Technique or the Information Divine Technique was extremely sophisticated, and it was also possible to do this, but Vincenteb explained the difference between the means.
