Chapter 9 A Professor's Advice to New Students
Lao Yao didn't seem to notice the awkward atmosphere in the classroom. Pen ~ fun ~ pavilion www.biquge.info
He took a timer out of his bosom, looked at the time, then cleared his throat and walked back to the podium:
"Introduce yourself, that's the first question you face at university. β
"Human beings are social creatures. When you come to the island of First University alone, you first need to integrate yourself into this strange society. β
At this point, he paused, scanning the classroom with a sharp gaze.
"You're doing poorly. β
"I'm a little disappointed. β
The freshmen sat up straight and looked at the professor on the podium with some unease.
Lao Yao held his pipe, slowly paced on the podium, and slowed down his tone:
"Faced with an unfamiliar environment, I don't know how to express myself, I don't know how to highlight my characteristics. You will have to learn one more of these in the future. β
"If you have enough time, I want you to introduce yourself again. But time is limited now, so that's all for today. I wish you were a better performer in the other professors' classes. β
"Now, I'll highlight some of the same clichΓ©s β these are the issues that I have to highlight every year. β
The professor stopped in the center of the podium and flicked the blackboard with his fingers.
Three large characters slowly emerge in the center of the blackboard.
"Fu, Yi, Wen. β
"There is a road to the mountain of books, and there is no end to the sea of learning!" do you know this sentence?" Professor Yao threw out a question, and replied by himself without waiting for a response: "This is the motto of Jiuyou College. You can see this sentence on your notice!"
"How do you understand that?"
"This sentence requires you to face the endless knowledge and to explore!
"But!"
"Exploration requires a solid theoretical and practical foundation. And this foundation is 'Fu, Yi, Wen'!"
"Fu is your talisma, Yi is your divination, and Wen is your astronomy. If you learn Fu Yiwen well, you will be able to understand my Charms class easily and without the slightest difficulty! If you can't learn Fu Yiwen, you won't even be able to understand the recipe given to you by the pharmacy professor!"
"Therefore, you must learn these three subjects consciously and consciously. β
"This is the foundation for you to become a registered wizard! If you want to go further on the wizarding path, then you must strengthen this foundation. β
As he spoke, Lao Yao glanced at Fat Xin encouragingly.
The fat man struggled to straighten his back, trying to respond to the professor's gaze in action. But his rounded figure overshadowed the effort a lot.
Zheng Qing twisted his body uneasily in his seat and changed his sitting position.
He was only vague about the courses the professor mentioned, which had to raise a lot of worries about the future.
"Also, as your counselor, I need to emphasize two more words!"
"Credits!
"You have engraved these five words firmly in your little brains. β
"Credits are your life in college!
Lao Yao Sheng walked off the podium slowly, grabbed the identity card on Liu Feifei's desk in the first row, and said in a frustrated voice:
"You want to go to the library, take out your ID card!"
"You want to go into the lab?
"Do you want to hear a lecture by a famous professor?"
"Whether it's borrowing books, using lab equipment, or even eating, sleeping, bathing! β
"The criterion for judging whether you are eligible to use these facilities is your credits. β
"If you want to get credits, every professor's coursework must be completed on time and in accordance with quality! Every activity organized by the school must be passionately participated! Every opportunity to get extra credits must be fought for!"
"Sufficient credits, being able to get enough resources from the school to experiment with your own witchcraft and exercise your abilities, and being able to upgrade your equipment and improve your body at school is the only key to your entry into the world of the senior class. β
Speaking of this, Lao Yao stopped talking and rested for a while.
Several elves flew up to the professor with a white mug, pearly steam rising above the wide rim.
The professor smiled and nodded, took the cup, moistened his throat, and continued to speak:
"You've more or less appreciated the magic of magic. Sufficient credits will allow you to fully enjoy this charm and feel the mysterious and fantastic world. β
So, keep those five words in mind. A mysterious smile appeared at the corner of the professor's mouth: "Believe me, at First University, credits are a harder currency than jade coins. β
Zheng Qing licked his lips, feeling a hint of dryness, and a hint of looming sweetness.
The newcomers in the classroom were a little restless by Lao Yao's remarks.
"Also, announce a couple of things. β
Lao Yao pressed his hand, and the classroom was quiet again.
"The first thing is about trials. β
"Some students may have heard that there will be a trial for about a month at the beginning of the first year of university. The school will throw you pink newcomers into the hunting grounds, pondering and grinding, grinding out some thick skin and hard cocoons. β
Maybe I thought Lao Yao's words were quite playful, and a few chuckles rang out in the classroom.
Zheng Qing also smiled.
Then he saw Xiao Xiao who was frowning, Zhang Jixin with a bitter face, and Xin Fatzi who tried to shrink under the table.
He resolutely shut his mouth.
Lao Yao didn't seem to notice the uneasy expressions of the freshmen, and continued:
"But the school found that the risk of freshman trials was difficult to control. Therefore, based on safety considerations, from this year onwards, the freshman trials will be uniformly arranged one month before the start of the sophomore year. You still have a full school year and half a summer vacation to prepare. β
The classroom was buzzing with discussion.
Zheng Qing turned his head to look at Xiao Xiao: "Is this freshman trial difficult?"
"Difficult?" Fat Xin turned around, wrinkled his fat face, and exaggerated in a nervous tone: "It's not difficult! It's the devil! It's hell! It's the grave of a newborn!"
"Every year, new students die in trials. Xiao Xiao's fluttering explanation came from the side.
Zheng Qing opened his mouth wide in horror:
"Will someone die?"
His voice was a little sharp.
Lao Yao knocked on the blackboard again.
The classroom was quiet again.
"No one will die. The professor looked at Zheng Qing with a smile and corrected: "After the implementation of the new regulations, there will be no more accidents for new students." This can be guaranteed by the joint meeting of professors. β
With a wave of his hand, he skipped the topic and continued:
"The second thing is about the invitation. β
"Every year the freshman season β this is the time β is the season for the various student organizations at the school to recruit new people. In the following month, the major clubs, including the school's student union, the college's student union, and the HKCSS, began to look for new members. For new students who meet their requirements, these student organizations provide an invitation letter. β
"I hope that every student will get at least one invitation letter. According to the practice of First University, each formal invitation letter can be exchanged for 0.1 credit from the counselor. This will be your first income at the university, so don't be perfunctory. β
"As for the new students who don't get a single invitation, it is customary for the counselor to be in the bottom 30 percent of the final grade. β
The professor bent his thumb and poked his heart:
"As long as you put your mind to it, you can always find an organization that suits you. β
