Chapter Twenty-Nine

Although most of the aristocratic youths no longer practiced martial arts, there were still some ambitious youths in the imperial capital who often came to the martial arts arena of San Caron to hone their martial arts skills such as horsemanship and swordsmanship.

Generally speaking, members of the community formed by Carlos who just want to exchange some trivial matters will often find a member's home to hold a meeting. When more important Imperial secrets are involved, members often use public events as a cover to find a reasonable opportunity to get the message across.

Early this morning, Carlos received an invitation, it turned out that Baez from the club invited him and a few friends to go to the jousting arena to discuss important matters, he readily agreed, called the servants to change into riding clothes, and went to the jousting arena to prepare for the rendezvous.

In a moment, Carlos entered the room dedicated to the nobles where they usually gathered, and found that he was the last member to arrive, and as soon as he entered the room, he sensed that something was wrong, and the members of the society did not talk about the secrets of the empire as excitedly as usual, nor did they imagine their own ambitions, but all gathered around the invitees of the meeting, Baez, and remained silent.

Carlos walked into the crowd and asked suspiciously, "What's the matter with you, I haven't seen you like this since I was rejected by the proud young ladies?"

Baez looked up at Carlos, Carlos saw Baez's face and gasped, it turned out that Baez's eyes were scattered, his eyes were sunken, and his face was dark gray, compared to his usual sunny appearance, it was like two people.

Carlos hurriedly asked with concern: "Baez, what's wrong with you, why are you emaciated to this extent after not seeing you for a few days?"

This sentence seemed to stir up bad memories for Baez, and his body suddenly trembled, and he asked Carlos, "Carlos, do you believe in ghosts?"

"I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it. ”

"Hmph!" a mocking sneer appeared on Baez's face. "I used to think the same way about you, but what happened last night made me no longer believe in my beliefs. ”

Baez coughed a few times and continued to talk slowly about what happened last night: "A few days ago, I received an invitation from my uncle, so I gladly went to my uncle's villa outside the city to stay for a few days. The other night, when I was sleeping, I always heard the sound of footsteps coming from my upstairs, and I thought it was the maid who was on the night watch, but when I knew that it was dawn, the footsteps disappeared, and I could not bear it, so I explained it to my uncle, who was very surprised, and said that they had never heard of it. ”

Baez wiped his sweat with his hands and continued: "I am very sure that I heard footsteps, and my uncle sent some guards to go upstairs with me to investigate the reason, and when we first went in, there was no sign of anyone moving here recently, except for the old furniture and weapons that had been replaced, and I thought I was not doing something wrong, and suddenly one of the guards screamed, and when we looked back, he had disappeared out of thin air, leaving a pool of blood. ”

Speaking of this, Baez felt his mouth dry, picked up the teacup and continued to drink, and after stabilizing his emotions, he continued: "We were stunned when we saw this horrific scene, but then another guard disappeared, and we were so frightened that we ran away, but the ghost was very fast, and only at the back of the line I escaped from the room, and the moment I locked the door, I vaguely saw a white figure, although I only saw it for a moment, but I felt that it was staring at me. ”

Speaking of fear, Baez stood up abruptly, and his eyes were terrified: "What is even more terrifying is that I fled to my uncle's family and told me about the terrible things that had happened, but they laughed at me, saying that there were no guards at home, did I try to scare them!

The crowd fell silent, and though Baez spoke strangely, they had never seen it before, so they could only offer words of comfort, but to no avail, and soon Baez left the party on the grounds that he was not feeling well, and he was still wrapped in a blanket and left the place in anticipation.

The party broke up, and Carlos quickly returned home. He told his sister Charlotte about it, expecting her to tell him a little bit of ideas, but Charlotte was so frightened that she hugged the maid and complained that he told the story and kept her awake at night.

Carlos thought that Baez's movements and demeanor did not look like a lie, and he decided to come down and take his sister to visit him tomorrow and ask him about it.
