Bodhicitta the foundation of the Mahayana path;

The good path of bodhicitta never leaves,
Great compassion is recited for the benefit of sentient beings.
"Enlightened contemplation", expressed in ancient Sanskrit by the word bodhichitta, refers to the desire to become a Buddha for the sake of all sentient beings, and bodhichitta can be divided into secular bodhichitta and triumphant bodhichitta.
Victorious bodhichitta is the recognition that all beings are inherently Buddha-natured, but only those who have realized the inherent emptiness of all phenomena can grasp it, because this is not easy to fully understand, and we usually start with the less difficult worldly bodhichitta to cultivate.
Secular bodhichitta is also divided into two parts: aspiring bodhichitta and acting bodhichitta . The former is to make a vow to attain enlightenment for all sentient beings, and the latter is to fulfill this wish through the practice of the six realms.
In other words, wishing bodhichitta is the confirmation of the goal, and doing bodhichitta is the way to achieve the goal. The key to Mahayana Buddhism is that no matter how long the cycle of samsara, the bodhichitta of aspiring and practicing bodhichitta is for all sentient beings, not for oneself.
How does one develop aspiring bodhichitta and how does one develop this feeling of compassion for sentient beings in order to stimulate the desire to attain enlightenment for the sake of sentient beings?
First of all, think of Avalokiteshvara as a witness to your determination to achieve enlightenment for the sake of altruism. Second, try to overcome the attitude of only wanting to help those close to you and rejecting the needs of those you don't like.
This is possible when you realize that every sentient being, without exception, has been your mother or father for at least one lifetime in many lifetimes in the past. All beings, even the smallest insects, only want to be happy and don't want to suffer, but they don't know that suffering comes from evil deeds and that happiness is born of good intentions.
When you think of all sentient beings hopelessly drowning in suffering, like a blind person lost in the endless desert, you can't help but feel great compassion for them.
To further develop this compassion, imagine that you are in the middle of a hell and suddenly you see your parents being dragged away by the messengers of the god of death, Yama, brutally whipping them;
Slash them with sharp weapons, burn them with melted copper, and crush them under a hot and red sheet of iron.
Looking at their terrible suffering, don't you feel a great sense of compassion and can't wait to rush to their rescue at once?
Your dear parents are only two of the vast number of immeasurable beings, so why don't other immeasurable beings deserve your compassion?
Knowing that there is no reason not to do so, try to gradually expand your compassion, first to your closest friends and loved ones, then to everyone you know, then to the whole country, then to the whole earth, and finally to the immeasurable beings in the three realms of samsara.
It is only when compassion is truly so vast that it can be called true compassion.
All sentient beings want to be free from suffering and be happy.
The biggest difference between myself and other beings is the number - I have only one, but the other beings are innumerable.
Therefore, one's own bitterness and happiness are really insignificant compared to the sufferings and joys of countless other sentient beings. What really matters is whether other sentient beings are happy or not, and that is the basis of bodhichitta.
We should want others to be happier than we are, and especially those we consider enemies and who are not good to us. Otherwise, what is the use of compassion?
Compassion for all living beings is the starting point. Then you must be able to put your hopes and aspirations into action. But as Atisha said, "It depends on the heart." ”
If your mind is always full of altruistic motives, then practicing bodhichitta will take care of yourself, no matter what your outward behavior may seem. If you can maintain the bodhichitta of aspiration, not only will you never deviate from the right path, but you will definitely continue to make progress on the path of cultivation.
When your body, speech, and mind are fully immersed in the prayer to help all sentient beings, and when you have the goal of self-interest and altruism in attaining Buddhahood, then even the smallest actions, such as reciting a mantra or making a big prostration, will quickly and accurately achieve your goal.
The six-character mantra is the essence of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, the form of mantra of the Bodhisattva's six perfections.
When you recite this mantra, the six paramitas arise spontaneously and bodhichitta is achieved at the same time. It is said that when those beings who are suffering in the prison of samsara initiate bodhichitta, they are immediately regarded as children by the Buddhas and are admired by humans and heavens.
Their whole lives have taken on a new meaning, all thanks to the infinite power of the precious bodhichitta. Bodhicitta is the essence of the Buddha's 84,000 teachings, which is very simple, easy to understand and easy to learn, even for beginners.
Victorious bodhichitta is the unity of emptiness and non-pretentious compassion. It is the simple nature of Dharma, which transcends all concepts and intellects, and from which comes great compassion that is unfortunate and uncaused, and which benefits all sentient beings.
As you progress in your practice, these two bodhichitta will increase in each other.
Even a glimpse of the ultimate nature of mind will give you the right insight into the practice of worldly bodhichitta and, in turn, the practice of worldly bodhichitta will expand your understanding of the ultimate bodhichitta mind.

But who can learn its true essence, and who can know its truth?
