Chapter 22: The Handover of the Empire Part I

Previous Chapter

In Blue Star's low earth orbit, a huge Glory Queen-class battlecruiser is moored, which is the Thirteenth Army, the flagship of the Ultramarines, the Glory of Maculag, and the starship used to welcome the return of the new emperor.

In the command room of the Macurag's Glory, the commander of the Ultramarines, Robott Kiliman, was standing in front of the wide porthole, looking out at the blue star.

How much like the Emperor's mouth of the former earth (Holy Terra), the blue ocean, the green earth.

Instead of being covered with buildings and inhabited by people like the earth......

It seems to understand a little bit why the emperor left the earth, leaving behind such a mess.

In the past few thousand years, he has done his best for the empire, but now suddenly there is a child who is no more than 100 years old to point fingers at him.

"Damn!"

Thinking of this, Kiliman slammed into the porthole in front of him, if it weren't for the fact that this piece of glass had been specially reinforced by the Mechanic God Cult, Kiliman's punch would have smashed through it.

As the genetic prototype of the Ultramarines legion, Killiman even has the power to rival that of the old emperor.

"Legion Commander, the Emperor is coming soon. The door to the command room opened, and a non-commissioned officer walked in.

"Okay, let's go down. Killiman waved his hand and sent the non-commissioned officer away.

"Well, what's going on......"

Killiman sighed, shook his head, and sat back in his seat.

"I hope the new emperor won't let me down. ”

Outside the window, there is a small landing ship, spray-painted with the coat of arms of the imperial state church.

In the command room, Ling Yu sat behind his desk, looking through the holy scriptures that Ming Meng had given him.

Changes after surgery

The special functions of each organ are listed above. While the warband's pharmacists and surgeons are able to perform the necessary implant procedures, they lack the necessary understanding of the specific functions of each organ. All the procedures involved are extremely old. Surgical procedures have been passed down from generation to generation, becoming increasingly ritualistic and misinterpreted. For these reasons, the effects of various organs in different warbands tend to be different, depending on the degree of alienation of the band's genetic seeds and surgical procedures. In some warbands, genetic seed mutations, defective surgical procedures, or improper post-operative care distort the function of implanted organs. For example, the Blooddrinker's Band's Genetic Detection Neural [Omophagea] gene seed has mutated, so all members of the Blooddrinker Warband have a supernatural craving for blood. In other warbands, individual organs are either completely ineffective or have been completely missing.

Fertilized egg reconstruction

Gene seeds can only be extracted from one or a pair of genetic receptacles taken from the body of a living (or recently dead) Space Marine. For this purpose, Space Marine apothecaries carry a special device called a reductor, which is capable of removing the genetic reduction glands of fallen soldiers on the battlefield. The function of the Gene Harvesting Glands is to preserve the gene seeds for the survival of the warband. Otherwise, there is no way to make a fertilized egg. As a result, the genetic seeds in each warband's inventory are unique. Genetic seeds have great religious significance for a warband, representing its identity and future. Without genetic seeds, there is no future for warbands. The disappearance of a genetic seed means the permanent loss of a fertilized egg. The disappearance of the genetic seed of Stage 18 or 19 essentially means the end of a warband.

Because each Space Marine has only two genetic receptor glands in their lifetime, there is a limit to how quickly warbands can create new Space Marines. A warband that has suffered heavy losses will take many years to rebuild. If a Space Marine's exposure to strong radiation, or other genetic disturbances, the gene seed becomes ineffective. The efficiency of storing gene seeds in the gene storage glands varies from one warband to another, so some warbands are able to replenish recruits more quickly than others.

New warbands

According to the Warband Charter, each Warband must hand over 5% of its genetic material to the Cult of Mechanicus on Mars on Mars. This "tithing" serves two purposes. First, it enables the Mechanicus to oversee the health of its warbands. Second, it allows the Mechanicus to store genetic seeds for the creation of new warbands.

New warbands were not built overnight. For each type of fertilized egg, a suitable gene seed is selected accordingly. The fertilized eggs are then grown under care and implanted into human slave experiments. These slave subjects must be biologically normal and free of any mutations. The entire life of the slave subject was confined to a stationary test chamber. Although they retain consciousness, they are completely immobile and only act as a medium for the development of various fertilized eggs. Two gene glands were obtained from the first slave, and then two other slaves were implanted to harvest four gene glands, and so on. It will take 55 years to make 1000 healthy organs. These organs must be officially approved by the Mechanicus Mentor, and then the High Lords of Terra will ask the Emperor for instructions (PS: it seems to be just a symbolic ritual). Only the Emperor can authorize the creation of new warbands.

Conscription into the regiment

The various implanted organs have an extremely profound effect on the physical and mental state of the Space Marine. Most of these changes are controlled by natural hormone secretion and developmental patterns. If the recipient has reached a certain stage of natural growth, the implanted organ may not be effective, or it may not be fully effective. Therefore, recruits must be young enough. Body tissue compatibility is also a must, otherwise the organs cannot develop properly.

The third consideration is spiritual matching. The Catalepsean nerve node, visual control organ, and sus-an meninges will only develop to a usable state under the stimulus of hypnotic suggestion. A recruit must be sensitive to these special treatments.

These considerations mean that only a very small percentage of people become Space Marines. They must be male, as the fertilized egg corresponds to male hormones and body tissue types, and then screening begins based on the required physiological and psychological compatibility. If these tests are successful, the candidate becomes a new entrant. After the organ implantation is completed and chemotherapy and psychological training is undergone, the title changes to Beginner. Beginners are trained before becoming a full-fledged member. A Space Marine recruit usually officially joins the group between the ages of 16~18, but due to hormonal changes caused by the method of making Star Marine, the recruit's body is fully developed before that. Wartime pressures will also speed up the process.

risk

While the warband will only select the most suitable candidates, not all newcomers make it to the Initiation alive. This is due to the loss of knowledge from the various warbands, resulting in a less efficient screening process. In some cases, the surgical procedure is not complete and effective. In many warbands, implant surgery has become highly ritualized, often accompanied by self-mutilation, incantations, prolonged prayers, fasting, and mystical behaviors that will affect medical outcomes. For example, the Space Wolf's Stage 17 surgery has a slight mutation, so the Space Wolf's canine teeth continue to grow throughout their lives, turning them into fearsome fangs over the centuries. The length of the teeth is a sign of seniority within the warband, and is even part of the warband's organization, so the veterans who make up the heavy weapons squad are called fangs.

Another warband rumored to be broadcast for its genetic seeds is the Holy Blood Angels. They often fall into battle-induced rage, known as the Black Fury, and then become berserkers hungry for flesh. The Blood Angels have been searching for a cure for the curse of St. Giles, but the Company of Death formed with these rampaging Space Marines is an excellent assault force that barely ignores the pain and tears apart the enemy with bare hands.

Another extreme example of a genetic seed mutation is the Black Dragons warband, whose bone enhancement module works in an anomalous manner. This leaves them with a long, ossified crown on their heads, while sharp bone spurs protrude from their forearms and elbows. Similar to the Death Company of the Blood Angels, the fighters affected by this abnormal development are organized into a separate combat unit. Known as dragon claws, they sharpen their extra bone spurs and coat them with a Adamantite sheath, turning them into fearsome melee weapons.

If an implanted organ doesn't develop properly, the Space Marine's metabolism can get seriously out of control. He may become mentally disturbed or hyperactive. In any of the above cases, he could die.

The unfortunate ones who do not die usually suffer mental damage and degenerate into murderous madmen or chattering idiots. If the warband is sufficiently manned, these unqualified will end their painful lives. However, if a warband lacks Space Marines, they are often allowed to survive and then incorporated into their own special units. Individuals who appear to be completely out of control of their minds may be used to form suicide attack units.

Some warbands have deliberately created such monsters, even implanting mutilated fertilized eggs into some beginners. This is extremely dangerous and is not tolerated by imperial decree. It's a pity that old traditions are stubborn.

Therapeutic training

Implantation surgery is carried out simultaneously with chemotherapy, psychological training, and subconscious hypnosis. All of this is necessary for the proper development of a Space Marine.

Chemotherapy - Space Marines must undergo routine tests and assessments before they can get started. Newly implanted organs are carefully monitored, and imbalances, corrections, and any signs of impaired development are treated. Chemotherapy decreases after completing the introductory process, but never ends. Space marines undergo periodic treatments for the rest of their lives to maintain a stable metabolism. That's why their power armor comes with surveillance and drug delivery equipment.

Hypnotherapy - While receiving extremely intensive physical growth, the receptor must learn how to use its new techniques. Some implanted organs, especially the injections of stages 6 and 10, only work properly with the right hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is usually not as effective as chemotherapy, but it can be effective. If the Space Marines could learn how to control their metabolism, he would be less dependent on drugs. The entire process takes place in a machine called Hypnomat. Space marines enter a hypnotic state, receiving visual and auditory illusions as a way to awaken their perception of unconscious metabolic processes.

Training - Physical training stimulates the implanted organ and makes it ready for performance testing.

Teach - Space marines are above mortals due to their supernatural powers. Space marines are equally remarkable in mind and spirit. Their bodies have undergone 19 implantation surgeries, and their spirits have been transformed to liberate their potential. This mental power is even more powerful than the physical strength mentioned above. For example, a Space Marine has a high degree of control over his senses and nervous system, and can therefore withstand injuries that can kill ordinary people. Space marines can also think and react at lightning speeds. Memory training is also an important part of teaching. Some Space Marines enhance image memory. Obviously, Space Marines are just as hungry for knowledge as normal people, and they have unique mental abilities. Thus, another of the most outstanding Imperial warriors was born, becoming a solid link in the armor of the Empire.

"It's a headache. Ling Yu looked at the complicated procedures on the holy scriptures, and then looked at the several life support systems behind him, and the last bit of warmth in his heart affected him.

“Detect the host's mood swings and start to suppress.” (Mood swings in the host are detected and inhibition begins.) )

“Error, unable to suppress, error, error, ready to enforce the program.” (Error, uncontrollable, error, error, ready to force the execution of the program.) )

A small strand of star energy rushed into Ling Yu's mind, locking up the emotional response module.

Ling Yan's gaze flickered, and finally fell into a deathly silence.

“No mercy.”

This universe does not need mercy.
