Chapter 29: 29 Midnight's Scheme
Sickert walked around the room in a bit of a rage, Accardo sat on the couch and was silent, and the ticking of the wall clock in the room made the silent night seem a little intimidating. Time passed with this dreary atmosphere, bit by bit.
About an hour earlier, IDF had dispatched three companies of troops to secretly arrest the only three secretaries in the President's office.
The first secretary was still asleep in bed when he was captured, and when the IDF rushed in, he was not even wearing trousers, but was dragged onto the truck by IDF soldiers wearing a pair of white underwear.
The second secretary was drunk in the bar, humming a little tune, and when he walked home, he found that his home had been surrounded by Wehrmacht troops, and when he was searched by vicious soldiers against the wall, he shouted: "I am the president's secretary! I want to see Mr. President!
The third secretary did not escape either, and he slept with his lover, but unfortunately the Wehrmacht found the mistress's house and took him and his mistress back to the Wehrmacht General Headquarters, and both of them were tied up with a lot of flowers - the Wehrmacht soldiers were only handcuffed, so in order not to discriminate, they had to use ropes.
Two of the results had already come out, the third secretary had taken his lover to a friend's party that day, at least twenty men and women had attested that they had an alibi that day, and the secretary who had been cleared was placed in a living room and "cared for" by two Wehrmacht soldiers.
The first secretary took turns playing mahjong with seven gamblers that day, and he didn't have time to commit the crime at all, and he even explained how he was beaten by his wife because he lost money, looking at his crying face, even if he asked him if he had stolen anything when he was a child, he would confess truthfully.
The second secretary is still in the trial of the Interrogation Section because he was drunk, but I heard that the second secretary was an alcoholic, and because he was Ebert's nephew, he was placed in the office of the presidential secretary, and he was a complete straw bag.
Sickert and Accardo were waiting for the outcome of the interrogation, but they almost knew the answer, and the only person who could enter the office of the president's secretary in the middle of the night was Mr. President himself.
"There is no need for Albert to betray us! We were just one of his vassals at that time! We were still living on the money he appropriated, so what good was it for him to betray the Wehrmacht?" Sickert looked at Accardo puzzled, as if he were asking Accardo, as if he were asking himself.
Accardo stood up, his face a little embarrassed, and as he walked out the door, he said, "I don't know why he betrayed Germany, so I'm going to ask for it myself." Your Excellency, I'll go to the interrogation room and hear what the drunkard has to say, would you be interested in going along?"
Sickert snorted, picked up his military cap, and walked out of the door before Accardo, and the two men went one after the other to the interrogation room of the Wehrmacht's Interrogation Section, which was located at the General Headquarters and was used to interrogate important prisoners, but was not in the same building as the headquarters office, with a guard barracks in between.
Two men and their respective guards were walking under the dim street lamps, and not far away, soldiers of the 103rd Regiment, who had just been transferred, were jumping out of the truck queue and were ordered to garrison the headquarters of the Wehrmacht in order to defend the area in the event of a possible coup clashes.
When Sickert pushed open the door of the interrogation room, an officer was pouring cold water on the face of the second secretary who was hanging, it was already November, the weather was very cold, a bucket of cold water was splashed on the man's face, and sure enough, the man's loud shouts were heard.
Seeing Sict and Accardo enter, the soldiers and officers stood up and saluted, and the man heard the voice, and looked at the door with confused eyes, and found Sict and Accardo coming in.
"General, save me, General!" shouted, "I'm Seaman, the president's secretary!
Sickert looked at Secretary Seaman's wolf appearance with a stained and cold face, closed his eyes a little unbearably, and did not speak, but Accardo on the side took off the leather gloves on his hand and asked in a cold tone: "Mr. Seaman, I hope you still tell us what we want to know." β
"But you didn't ask me anything!" said Seaman innocently.
"......" Accardo was a little embarrassed, and the momentum just now disappeared to the Nine Heavens, and he turned around: "You haven't started asking yet?"
"The third interrogation room is different from the previous interrogation room, usually we ask questions after a while, sir!" an officer stepped forward to explain, "so that the prisoner can easily recall what he has done." β
"No need!" Accardo looked at the drunkard Seaman's frightened appearance, waved his hand and said, "Just ask." β
The officer nodded, came to Seaman, picked up Wen JiΓ n and looked at it, and asked, "You called the Coalition Arms Control Committee twice in your office!
"What, what?" said Seaman, stammering a little.
Even Accardo could hear the panic in Seaman's words, let alone a room full of interrogators.
There was no nonsense, the two officers rushed forward, punched and kicked Seaman in the waist, and the screams immediately filled the whole room, and Sickert on the side seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, found a stool to sit down, stared at his men and tortured Seaman.
"Please, ah...... Please!...... Don't!ah...... Don't hit...... Me!ah...... For God......'s sake! I said, I said!" Seaman only lasted about two minutes before he vomited out all the wine he had drunk that night and the blood from his stomach, and then he screamed and prepared to confess.
As soon as the officers and soldiers stopped, he said everything like beans in a bamboo tube: "Don't ...... Don't fight any more! That day Albert told me that he was fed up with the Wehrmacht's coercion and arrogance, and that he intended to weaken the Wehrmacht's power and make the Wehrmacht give up some of it. β
He gasped and continued, "He doesn't want to stop the Hades plan completely, he just wants to control the development of the Wehrmacht under his control, so he feels that Accardo is a threat and is ready to get rid of Accardo." β
He glanced at General Sickert and found that Sickert's face was very ugly, and defended: "Ebert and I are not treasonous! We have no intention of betraying the country! We just want the army to be restrained so that we can save more money to revive Germany! We are also just." β
"To hell with your so-called justice! Your stupidity has led directly to the crisis in the Ruhr industrial region! to bring shame on the Wehrmacht and disaster to the German people!" Accardo said angrily: "General Sickert, are you still going to intercede for Ebert?"
"It is not in accordance with the law that we cannot take measures against the president on the basis of the testimony of a secretary. Sickert said helplessly.
"General Sickert, he's trying to shake the foundations of the Wehrmacht! He's trying to destroy Germany! We should take action to stop the catastrophe from happening!" Accardo said with some reluctance, "We should arrest Ebert and sentence him to death." β
"We're not the police! Colonel Accardo!" Sickett glared at Accardo angrily, "We're not judges either!"
Accardo nodded: "Yes, we are not! but we are the Wehrmacht!"
"The arrest of the president will cause ****, and we have no certainty that we can control the situation. Sickert frowned and said, "We need to think carefully and formulate a good countermeasure. β
"We already have a countermeasure, don't we?" Accardo said with a smile on his lips, "As early as last year, I drew up an emergency plan for the Wehrmacht at a secret meeting, and we can completely implement plan A." β
"Well, let's get Albert up first, and don't hurt him. Hearing Accardo's words, Sickert's attitude was much better, after all, it was much better for the Wehrmacht to control the government than for Ebert to control the Wehrmacht.
Accardo nodded, turned and walked out of the interrogation room.
"Take your men and come with me!" Accardo saw the Hulk Commander outside the door and ordered, "Let the soldiers load their bullets!"
In the room, several officers, at the behest of Sickert, had already hanged Secretary Seaman, one of the body's feet still twitching.
"Are you really going to let President Ebert go?" Hulk asked as he walked forward with Accardo, "Let him go, he'll get revenge!"
"Of course I thought of the question you thought of, so he would definitely resist arrest! The Wehrmacht doesn't need a living president, don't you think?" Accardo looked back, got into the car, and motioned for Gell to drive.
"General Sickett will take you to court-martial. Accardo. Shoot the president and you'll be hanged!" Hulk said to Accardo through the window, "Shall we think again?"
"Yes, General Sickt will not tolerate my pretensions, but the new President, Mr. President, will be grateful to me, and do you remember what I said to you during the last coup d'Γ©tat of General Walter von Lutwitz?" said Accardo with a smile.
"The new president, who is the new president?" Hulk was a little confused, but he remembered some of the problems that Accardo had told him about General Walter von Lutwitz's coup, such as not having a new president.
It seems that Accardo is indeed different from the reckless General Lutwitz, who has not yet started the coup d'Γ©tat, and has a complete plan to guide the follow-up.
Accardo was driving for a moment before he said, "Gehr, drive, Captain Hulk, now we are going to kill our former President, Mr. Ebert, and I, after that, I am going to meet the new President of Germany, Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg." β
