Chapter 19 19 Breaking the Ground
"Could this be a false message?" said a French colonel, touching his chin and frowning.
"No, who would have nothing to do with such a prank? The man listening to the voice is not too young to make such a boring joke. The lawyer who answered the phone said.
Another officer also nodded and stated his position: "He is right, the Wehrmacht has always secretly retained its combat strength, which everyone knows, so this call is definitely not groundless, it must be that there is something wrong with them, and someone is unwilling to see the strength of the Wehrmacht, so they stabbed the knife in the back." โ
"Then what should we do?" asked the judge who answered the phone, impatiently.
"Dean, go to the garage, start the car and wait for us! Don't tell anyone where we're going!" ordered the chief magistrate.
"Yes, Sir Millers!" the judge named Dean who answered the phone immediately saluted and trotted all the way downstairs.
Millers glanced at the other two officers and gave another order: "Go to the ordnance section and get two machine guns! This mission will be dangerous, we must be prepared to save our lives! Call the brethren!
Seeing that the two men also walked out of the house, Millers picked up a pen, tore off a blank piece of paper from his notepad, and wrote hastily: "Tonight, three of my colleagues and I will rush to the headquarters of the 1st Wehrmacht Division on the outskirts of Berlin to check the overstaffing there! If we still do not return at dawn, please send someone to answer it." โ
When he had finished, he pressed the paper with his pen, took out his pistol and checked the bullets in the magazine, then turned and closed the door, and hurried downstairs to the garage.
A not very new Ford sedan, the glass around it has been carefully polished, and you can see the owner's love and care for this car.
In the back seat, two bailiffs were checking their pistols, and Millers glanced at them, nodded in satisfaction, and got into the passenger seat of the car. In the back, a French sergeant ran up and saluted outside the window: "Sir, the second row is assembled!
With a wave of his hand, Millers started the car he was sitting in and drove out of the door of the Allied Arms Control Committee, and only a few seconds later, a French truck drove out, full of French soldiers.
Just opposite the gate of the Allied Arms Control Commission, on the top floor of a small four-story building, behind the false wounds, a telescope shook slightly.
A bearded man wearing a forward hat and suspenders called out to his accomplice: "Captain Lusick!
Behind him, a young man who had been napping immediately straightened up, threw his overcoat aside, and grabbed the phone next to him: "Pick up the nest!
"Hello, this is the lair! What's the report?" on the other side of the phone, the voice of a nice female secretary rang.
"Two Frenchmen's cars drove out of the committee's gates! There were four people in the front car! The officer in the back row was checking the pistol!" the bearded man grabbed the phone and reported what he saw: "There was a truck with about 20 French soldiers on board! They were all armed with rifles and two machine guns!"
Ten seconds later, the call was received on Accardo's phone, and Accardo listened to the report, his squinted eyes showed a terrifying gleam, and the smile that often hung on his face disappeared.
He said, "I see, keep watching there, I'll take care of the rest!" and hung up.
Then he grabbed the phone again and ordered, "Pick me up for the person in charge for tonight." โ
The phone was quickly connected, and Accardo didn't have time to talk nonsense to the other party: "I'm Accardo! Immediately set up roadblocks at all the intersections leading to the 1st Division's station! Arrange Operation Brute Bull at the three main intersections! As soon as you find a target, don't wait for my orders! Do it immediately! This time it's not a drill! Execute it immediately!"
After listening carefully to Accardo's order, the other side of the phone replied in a hoarse voice, "Yes!
Hanging up the phone, Accardo grabbed it again: "Connect to the headquarters of the 1st Division! Quick!" he said, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his hand.
The phone was quickly connected, and Accardo didn't wait for the other side to speak, and immediately said: "I'm Accardo! Stop this training immediately! Disband the troops! Let the extra people leave the barracks! Hide nearby! Quick!"
An old man's voice came from the other end of the line: "Accardo, what's the alarm, it's me, I'm Sickert, what's wrong?"
Accardo was stunned for a moment, and then immediately explained: "General, the training plan for tonight may be known to the French! They are now on their way to the 1st Division's station. โ
Sickert was silent for about two seconds, and then said, "Understood, I will immediately transfer the extra troops! Give me 10 minutes! Don't act rashly on your side for the time being! Wait for my news!"
"Understood!" Accardo dropped the phone in his hand and collapsed limply in his chair, gasping for breath, as if all his strength had been drained. He pondered in his heart over and over again, what was wrong, where did the news leak from, was it a spy arranged by the French in the 1st Division, or was there a French eye and ear in the General Headquarters?
Time passed very slowly, and Accardo felt as if hours had passed, and the long hand of the wall clock had barely traveled two squaresโless than 10 minutes had passed. If the French get caught, then the Wehrmacht will be thoroughly investigated by the Allied Arms Control Committee, and once it is seriously investigated, many things that cannot be concealed will surface, and at that time, the Wehrmacht will be finished, completely finished.
"Bell, bell, bell. While Accardo was anxiously waiting, the phone finally rang, and Accardo couldn't wait to grab the receiver, and Sickert's voice came from inside: "I've taken care of it here! Stop thwarting the plan! Let them come and check!"
Accardo heard this, and let out a deep breath, and finally because of the timely warning, this catastrophe was eliminated.
Accardo put down the phone, and then quickly picked it up again: "Pick me up tonight's person in charge!"
The call was answered, but it was not good news: "Mr. Lieutenant Colonel, the other party is moving too fast, and we have no choice but to carry out the Rhino Plan! My men drove a truck at an intersection and knocked over the first car of the French, and was again run over by the Frenchman's truck. We died 2 people, they died 4!"
"Executed?" Accardo didn't believe his ears.
"Yes! We have two Gestapo agents killed!" said the person in charge there.
Accardo sighed, "Send your men to protect the scene!
At the scene, when Accardo arrived, four policemen were protecting the scene, and strangely enough, there were more than two dozen French soldiers with rifles around. The front part of the Frenchman's truck had obvious crash marks, and two machine guns were mounted on it.
In the middle of the road, a truck overturned to the ground, and the car was piled with bottles of milk, which shattered and the milk flowed all over the ground because of the violent impact and rolling. Not far away, there was also a small car that had been knocked out of shape, and the four judicial officials in it were covered in blood, and they could no longer distinguish their original appearances.
A policeman came up and gave Accardo a military salute: "Sir, they are soldiers and officers of the Coalition Arms Control Committee! A car accident occurred at about 1 o'clock in the night! There was a collision with a car delivering milk in this neighborhood, and no one survived." โ
"What about the milkman, aren't there any survivors?" asked Accardo, frowning.
"One died in a car accident, the other was shot and killed by angry French soldiers!" the policeman looked embarrassed, but told the truth.
"Escort these French soldiers back to the Arms Control Commission!" "Sue them, we reserve the right to hold those who shot and killed!
"The chief officer is called Millers, according to the French! The rank is a major! They are out tonight on a mission!" said the policeman.
Accardo showed what he thought was the best acting talent: "We, the Wehrmacht, have not been notified of their movements!
"That's right! We don't know where these officers from the Allied Arms Control Committee are going tonight! They haven't informed us that we're going to check our troops!" Not far away, a man got out of the car while talking, he looked up, and all the Germans present stood up and saluted, this middle-aged man was General Sickert.
"Don't be too arrogant! just wait for the note from the French ambassador!" said the French platoon commander, who was the largest of the ranks, "Sooner or later, we will avenge Major Millers!"
Accardo swept his murderous gaze at the French corporal who was speaking, and suddenly burst out laughing: "Revenge, revenge, isn't the driver who caused the accident dead?"
Seeing the French soldiers gone, Sickert stared at Accardo with some anger: "Didn't I say don't take action?"
"I didn't have time. Accardo said helplessly: "It's a step too late." โ
"The French will take revenge! Sickert sighed and said, "Once things get bigger, we won't end well." โ
"Transfer some of our plans out, and take the work of training personnel abroad to carry it out!" said Accardo, who took a unique approach, "so that we don't have to be afraid of them checking us." At least it can expose some of the family background!"
"Easy to say! Which country is not closer to England and France now, and who will support us Germany?" Sickert looked at Accardo with some confusion.
Accardo put it in Sickert's ear and whispered the name of a country: "Soviet Union!"
