Chapter 53: The Controversy over Buddha Ben
"Buddhists?" Lausanne was even more curious, he couldn't imagine what happened in this place thousands of years ago.
The old man ignored Lausanne's question, and continued his self-talk: "The Buddha is benzene, benzene is the Buddha, the Buddha here is the Indian Buddhism transmitted by Shakyamuni Buddha, and the benzene here is the ancient Xiangxiong Buddhism passed on by the Buddha of Xingrao Miwo, the two have the same root and origin, and there is no difference, in fact, what the belief is, it is the same, the so-called Buddha Bon dispute is just a political and power struggle between the rulers, and so many lives have been sacrificed innocently." Luosang secretly sighed in his heart: "No wonder this old man has lived for so long, it seems that he has understood very thoroughly!"
Historical records have recorded that the rising Yalong tribe overthrew the Zhangzhung Kingdom, and Songtsen Gampo established a new powerful regime, the Tubo Dynasty. He also married Princess Chizun of Nepal and Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty, and the two princesses each brought Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues from their hometowns to Tibet, marking the official introduction of Indian Buddhism to Tibet. At the beginning of the eighth century, after the accession to the throne, Chide Zuzan greatly promoted Buddhism, and in 710 Chide Zuzan married the princess of Jincheng from the Tang Dynasty, and Han Buddhism and Han monks came to the snowy holy land again.
Chide Zuzan took in monks from the Western Regions who had fled to Tibet in Khotan, Central Asia, and Xinjiang. Trisong Detsen vigorously developed Buddhism, first burying alive the anti-Buddhist minister Ma Shang Chung Bajie, the exiled minister Dazaru Gong, welcoming the Han monks and Indian monks and Guru Padmasambhava, and successively issued two edicts on the revival of Buddhism, ordering the whole people of Tibet to practice Indian Buddhism. He organized manpower and material resources to translate Buddhist scriptures, built Samye Monastery, and officially ordained Tibetan monks.
Trisong Detsen also personally went to Shannan to preside over the foundation laying project of Samye Monastery, and invited the Bon master Xiangri Wujin from the old place of Zhangxiong to translate the Yongzhong Bon classic "One Hundred Thousand Dragon Sutra" and build a mausoleum for him. On the other hand, Han monks and Indian monks were organized to translate Buddhist scriptures and build stupas in Samye Monastery.
On the one hand, the power of Bon and the aristocracy supporting Bon was strong, and Trisong Detsen had to make major concessions to Bon, and on the other hand, it was a strategy for him to maintain the power of Buddhism, so that Buddhism gradually expanded its power in the situation of coexistence of Buddha and Ben.
Together, Trisong Detsen and Padmasambhava laid the foundation for the spread of Buddhism in Tibet, clearing the way for the prosperity of Buddhism. Since Tri Song Detsen, the three generations of Tibetan Zampu: Muni Zampu, Chide Songtsen, and Trizu Detsen have all greatly promoted Buddhism, especially during the reign of Chizu Detsen, combined with the translation of Buddhist scriptures, carried out a text standardization movement, and compiled a bibliography of translated scriptures.
By the time of the last Tibetan Dynasty, Tsangpurang Dama, he took strong measures to eliminate Buddhism and ordered the entire territory of Tibet to ban Buddhism, which led to the end of the pre-propagation period and the demise of the Tibetan Dynasty. During the Tibetan period, the dispute between Buddha and Bon was a process of collision, controversy and even mutual absorption between local traditional culture and foreign culture, until it was integrated.
Although Bon has undergone many devastating blows, it still retains many Bon temples in Tibetan areas, and many of its rituals are still preserved in Buddhist rituals, and its ideological concepts are still reflected in the behavior and daily life of the people in Tibetan areas.
The controversy over the Tibetan Buddha eventually led to the fall of the Tibetan Dynasty and the subsequent domination of Tibetan Buddhism for thousands of years. Judging from the outcome of the dispute over the Buddha and Bon in Tibet, Buddhism in Tibet has absorbed the elements of Bon and become the main body of the snowy culture, and the Buddhist spirit has become the pillar of the Tibetan people's psychology for more than 1,000 years.
In other words, the stone tomb of the underground palace that Lausanne's group just entered was the mausoleum built by Trisong Dezan. Could it be that the stone coffin was empty? The presiding officer of the self-proclaimed Hanbing Temple in front of him was the Bon Grand Dharma King Xiangri Ugin who was next to King Rimigazo in the past?
At this time, the old man seemed to remember the topic that Lobsang asked him, and suddenly said to Lausanne: "The corpses you see are the Buddhist monks who were innocently killed when Langdarma destroyed the Buddha......
The old man suddenly stopped talking, looked at the cave blankly, half a sound, and said: "That day, I retreated and cultivated in this cave, so as to avoid a catastrophe, and when I got out, what I saw was an unbearable scene full of corpses......
He said as if he was still immersed in the sadness of the past, and the muscles on his face were spasming violently, and after a while, he calmed down and continued: " This cold ice temple was originally a temple built for me after I converted to Buddhism, and then Langdarma's movement to destroy Buddhism began, and many Buddhists fled to this ice-covered world to escape the disaster, and I saw the fall and replacement of the dynasty, and I also understood a lot, thinking that they would not run to such a remote place, so I ordered the monks in the temple not to go into the depths of the snow-capped mountains, and never thought that Langdarma, the devil, actually sent people to kill all the lamas here. ”
When Lausanne heard the phrase "many Buddhists fled to this snow-covered world", he thought to himself, maybe this old man knew the location of the Snow Country Futu City, so he asked: "Dafa King, did the Buddhists you mentioned flee to the depths of the snow-capped mountains later establish a small country called the Snow Country?"
The old man turned his head, looked at Lausanne with those eyes that were deep in his sockets, and asked curiously, "Do you know Snow Country?"
Lausanne nodded and said, "We are not tomb robbers, we are an expedition team that went to the depths of the snowy mountains to find the ruins of the ancient snow country. If you know, let me know. A few of us have taken the liberty of entering your mausoleum to find clues to the location of the capital of the ancient Snow Country, and I hope you will forgive us for our rashness. ”
The old man sighed, as if recalling a long past, and did not speak for a long time.
Lausanne thought to himself, "This old man must know the location of the Snow Country, and he must not miss this great opportunity, and he must find out the exact address of the Floating Slaughter City from his mouth." ”
So he urged: "Dafa King, just tell me, we are looking for Futu City, not for personal gain, you saw the girl next to me in the underground palace, right? She is the direct descendant of King Rimikazo, and I have come to fulfill his wish." ”
When the old man heard this, his eyes suddenly flashed, and his voice trembled a little with excitement, and he said, "What are you talking about, but the girl I gave me a scroll of parchment scrolls that cultivated Chu Xin Bon Technique?"
Lausanne was anxious to find out the clues of Futu City from the old man's mouth, so he nodded and said eagerly: "It's her!"
The old man closed his eyes and said, "No wonder I feel like I am in touch with this girl when I look at her." ”
After the old man said this, he told Lausanne many unknown things that happened in history, but he didn't say a word about the Snow Country Floating Slaughter City.
In fact, Lausanne was not very interested in the history that the old man said, and what he wanted to know now was: where exactly is the Snow Country Floating Slaughter City?
