Chapter 1: Two Knives
Will there be retribution for the butcher?
I once asked such a question on a forum, and many people gave the answer, and there were different opinions.
The second most liked is a quote from a Buddhist scripture: Among all the remaining sins, killing is the heaviest, and among all merits, do not kill the first.
And the sentence with the first number of likes is: The profession of butcher is the closest to the positive fruit position, after all, as long as you put down the butcher's knife, you can become a Buddha on the ground, which is much better than those believers who eat fasting and chant Buddha for a lifetime.
Although it is a bit nonsense, I have to say that it is also a bit crooked.
I don't know if I will be able to become a Buddha after putting down the butcher's knife, I only know that the three butchers in my village did not die properly, and all died in accidents.
My grandfather was also a butcher in the village, and he was a well-known butcher in Shili Eight Village, and all the pigs, cattle, sheep and other livestock slaughtered by his hands were basically killed with a knife. When deboning and dismantling the meat of those animals, Grandpa's technique is also unmatched, in Grandpa's words, he can clean and remove all the bones of a beef cow with his eyes closed.
After the three butchers in the village died in an accident, I was worried that the next one would be my grandfather's turn, after all, there was a lot of rumor in the village that people who killed too much would not end well.
For my worries, grandpa scoffed, telling me not to worry about this kind of illusory thing, and said that even if Yama Laozi came, he couldn't take away grandpa's life, because he was a very well-behaved person!
Indeed, Grandpa had a lot of rules, which were different from other butchers.
First, when my grandfather slaughtered livestock, he chose to do so at noon, and in his words, the yang energy was the strongest and the yin energy was the weakest. After slaughtering the animals, the grandfather would slap his back with a green bamboo pole and make a brazier to step over.
Second, before the grandfather used the knife on those animals, he would wear red gloves, some people said that this was to prevent the knife from slipping out of his hand after being stained with blood, but the specific reason Grandpa did not say. When the three butchers in the village who died in an accident were buried, their grandfather knitted red gloves for them and buried them on their hands.
Third, and one of the rules that grandpa values the most, is that his knife is never sharpened.
Unlike other butchers, Grandpa didn't use a boning knife for two purposes, deboning and skinning were two different knives.
Boning knife, the blade length is seven inches and six minutes, the tip of the knife is curled, and the small notch of the blade is not less than three.
The peeling knife has a blade length of three inches and three minutes, the handle is wrapped with a piece of torn black cloth, and there are several small flaws on the knife body.
I wanted to help my grandfather sharpen those two knives, but my grandfather beat me up without any explanation, and the beating made me lie in bed for three days.
In addition, grandpa's other small rules are countless.
For example, during the Chinese New Year, Spring Festival couplets or New Year's dolls will be pasted in front of other people's houses, but a pair of white paper is pasted at the door of our house every year, and then it is painted red with chicken blood or dog blood.
There are too many rules like this, no matter what kind of weird eyes others look at our family, I'm used to it anyway.
If there are more rules, will you be able to die well?
Not to mention, until I was in college, my grandfather was physically good and walking like a fly, and the physical strength of ordinary young men may not be comparable to that of grandpa.
When I was a sophomore in college, something happened in the village that caused a change in my family, and that's when I realized that my grandfather was not just an ordinary butcher.
Every summer, my grandfather would go on a long trip, as long as ten days and half a month, and as short as three or five days. He doesn't say what to do when he goes out, and I'm used to being alone at home every year.
On the third day after my grandfather left home, Chen Mazi from the west of the village came to my grandfather and asked my grandfather to help slaughter an animal.
I don't really want to deal with this guy, Chen Mazi's reputation in our village is not very good, he is swaggering and deceiving outside in the name of a feng shui gentleman, and I heard that he also has a part-time job in robbing tombs and fishing for the wrong door, although the family has built a three-story small western-style building, but everyone in the village knows that this guy's financial path is not right.
"My grandfather is far away, you can find someone else! If it really doesn't work, it's sent to the slaughterhouse in town. ”
Hearing me say this, Chen Mazi seemed to be a little anxious, and came to my side and said with a wry smile: "Brother, I will have a happy event tomorrow, how can I send it to the slaughterhouse at this time...... Otherwise, if you go over and help my brother, my brother will definitely not treat you badly! ”
Maybe because of the hot weather, Chen Mazi who came over had a very strong fox odor, and at the same time, it was a little rusty, which was very unpleasant.
I covered my nose and said in an angry urn voice: "Let me, the only college student in the village, use a knife to kill, what do you think?" ”
"Labor fee, five hundred yuan, how about it?"
Chen Mazi hurriedly said: "Your grandfather is the best at deboning and peeling, you have followed him since you were a child, even if you have never eaten pork, you have seen pigs run!" If you think 500 yuan is a bit less, my brother will add some to you afterwards! ”
I looked at Chen Mazi with a puzzled face, five hundred yuan is really a lot, even if my grandfather usually helps people kill pigs and slaughter cows, he can't get this price, when did Chen Mazi, a stingy guy, be so generous?
Perhaps seeing through what I was thinking, Chen Mazi directly took out five brand-new 100 yuan bills from his pocket and handed them to me, saying that the 500 yuan should be regarded as a deposit.
After making sure that the money given by Chen Mazi was not counterfeit, I got up and went back to the hall directly, where a wooden box was enshrined on the incense table, and inside the box were my grandfather's two knives.
I lit an incense stick and stuck it in the small copper stove in front of the incense table, and it was not until the incense stick burned out that I grabbed the wooden box and went out.
The cost of going to college is not small, and it is good for me to earn this money by slaughtering an animal, and I should earn some pocket money.
Although I have never slaughtered animals, I have learned a lot from my grandfather since I was a child, and I often do a lot when he skins and debons those animals, which is not very difficult for me.
When I followed Chen Mazi to his house and saw the so-called 'livestock' in his mouth, I almost scolded.
There was an iron cage in the corner of the yard, and in it lay a large gray-haired fox, nearly two meters long, definitely the largest fox I had ever seen.
