Chapter 14: Dinner and Cocoa Crunch
"Are Inspector Bolon and Inspector Anglo here?"
Griffith, having read the record, asked hopelessly.
"The two investigators have been transferred to the field, and there are no personnel records of them in the town," the clerk replied, "We are not subordinate to the Investigation Bureau, but we have kept the case files for them." β
"Let's go," an elegant, serene smile returned to Galadia's face as she patted Griffith on the shoulder and walked out.
......
The two men who left the town walked through the fields and hills, resting by the brook in the evening. The area is already densely populated, but it is not so easy to find a place to eat and stay during the trip.
"What is this? Don't you have a shield?" said Galadia curiously as Griffith took out a round object the size of a shield from his package and threw it on the frame with a "thump" sound.
"Our dinner, another piece of brown bread, was made with flour mixed with oats, barley and all sorts of beans, well, yes, and bran. Easy to preserve, but hard," Griffith set up a small stove over the campfire and began to laboriously cut the large piece of bread the size of the shield, "The oven is generally communal, and the citizens bake one of these bread every few days. And then, it became like this. β
"Are you sure this thing can move?" the elf shook his head, "The goblin's knife can't even cut it!"
"Indeed...... It is not uncommon for a thief to steal from a farmer's house and die under the black bread of a housewife, or to snatch bread as a murder weapon when a husband and wife quarrel," Griffith broke a piece of black bread and poured it into a small stove and boiled it. β
"Why are you doing so badly!" cried the elf clapping the bowl, "why do you give me this every day!?"
"Because the war has just ended, you can only buy black bread in this kind of place, heaven and earth, and this bread is not mixed with sand and sawdust, which is already very good, okay!" Griffith exclaimed as he took out the jerky and tomatoes he had bought from the town and put them in the pot, and added some wild vegetables picked by the roadside, "Although the supply of supplies has improved greatly now, the day of the supply of white bread will have to wait for a while." β
The two were about to quarrel.
After a brief moment of silence, Galadia watched the bread, cuts of meat, and vegetables tumble in the water, turned and took out a small package and placed it on her long, straight legs, and smiled at the apprentice knight who was cooking.
Griffith felt her gaze, looked up and asked, "So, how did you venture out into the wilderness? Food and rest are troublesome, right?"
"No, I had a companion the other day!" said Galadia, "and in the end, I couldn't stand their personalities, and for other reasons, I decided to go it alone!"
"It's better not to do that in the future, the best heroes don't have eyes behind them," Griffith said very sincerely, "and even the most annoying companion is a companion." β
"Got it, got it!" said Galadia, pulling out a small piece of something from the package and handing it over, "I'll give you something to eat! This is our secret ******* food! The apprentice knight immediately took it with joy, and found that it was two small shortbreads with something in them.
"Eat and eat! you can eat enough in a few pieces, according to the rules, you humans can't eat!"
Griffith took a light bite, the golden biscuit had a faint fragrance, and the contents of the biscuit were soft and smooth, sweet and full of mellow taste.
It's delicious! What is it!Griffith's eyes widened as he cracked open the cracker, revealing a black solid inside. He licked it curiously, the rich taste was more delicious than honey, and it carried a pleasant sense of satisfaction.
"Hahahaha! You're so cute!" Garadia watched Griffith finish the biscuits in two bites, licking her fingers like watching an orange cat eat small dried fish, "This is a dry food made by using cocoa tree fruit as the main ingredient, mixed with other ingredients after pressing, fermented and roasted, and the rich and sweet taste is very powerful!"
"It's delicious!" Griffith licked the melted cocoa on his hands, "I've never eaten anything like this, from the Broken Isles to the steppes of the East."
"Not for you!" Garradia put away the small package on her lap, "This is my reserve food, if you eat it, I will have to drink the unspeakable soup you cooked!"
"Actually, this soup is not so unbearable~ After all, it also adds dried meat and tomatoes," Griffith took out a small piece of cheese bought in the town and put it into the soup, and the special aroma left to diffuse, "In this war, the kingdom occupied several provinces on the southern continent, where there is a large rich land with many unheard of properties. After the war, everyone's lives will be enriched as a result. β
Jerky meat, tomatoes and cheese can cost a lot of money.
"Oh~" Galadia smelled the aroma in the air, and felt that the soup seemed to be okay, "I didn't expect you, a little sergeant, to care about the affairs of the Southern Continent." Isn't it south of the Broken Isles, far away to the far south?"
"A humble position is not a reason for short-sightedness, that's what my teacher said," Griffith scooped out a bowl of soup and handed it over, "maybe one day, the distant world will be a part of your story, isn't it?"
Galadia took the steaming soup, scooped up a spoonful of soft bread and ate it.
"How?"
"Stillβokayβright. β
The two had a leisurely dinner. Galadia spread out a blanket on the soft grass and sat down very comfortably.
Not far from the elf girl, Griffith was by the campfire looking at the books he had bought in town.
"Do you like to read so much?"
"Well, my brain needs books, like a sword needs a whetstone. β
"That's a good point!" said Galadia heartily, "sounds like a quote from some big man." β
Griffith, who had listened to the compliment, closed the book in his hand and took out a stack of papers from the package.
"What is this?" asked the elf curiously.
"The album is said to be a good place to relax," Griffith carefully unfolded the album, "I bought the book as a gift, and I didn't have time to read it during the day." β
Curious, Galadia leaned her head too.
β......β
β......β
"That's not the case!" exclaimed the elf girl. The thin eyebrows are almost twisted together, and the long, pointed ears are raised upwards.
During the day, when the two of them passed through the town, the vendor in the town gave the apprentice knight, who knew at a glance that he had just returned from the battlefield, a picture album of "peace of mind" - a picture album full of all kinds of scantily clad and sexy beauties, both human and elf.
Griffith looked at it for a moment, and instead of being calm, his mind stirred, and then he boldly looked at his companions, who were superior in appearance, figure, and temperament.
Galadia punched him and snatched the album away.
"Isn't that good! Don't look any further, nasty!" Graradia snatched Griffith's drawing paper from his hand, took out a charcoal pen, and drew it on the back of a piece of paper, "Slander! This is crazy slander!"
I have to say that this elf lady is really versatile. Within moments, a stunning painting was presented to Griffith.
Heavily armoured elven warriors wielded long knives with two blades twisted together, lined up in straight battle columns like slashing swords, staring at the army of orcs that pounced on them with a cold but determined gaze. At the very end of the frame, a handsome, resolute elven general roars and swings his sword. His image is a perfect blend of grace, self-discipline and courage, leaving no doubt that he is a hero who will go down in history.
"Look! look!" exclaimed Galadia, "the sturdy defense of the whole body armor and shield, the skillful combat skills of both near and far, the ancient alliance with the humans, the leader who fights with the warriors on the front lines, the powerful battle cry, the embodiment of wisdom, the evil natural enemy, the spirit!"
"Look at yours again!" said Galadia, tapping Griffith's book. The elven woman in the album is dressed in thin clothes, trying her best to show off her sexy figure and coquettish appearance, "erotic underwear-like clothing, weak and pompous magic, inexplicable and wonderful racism, self-righteous and useless queen, confused expression, useless species, foil of the victor, false, fake, spirit!"
"Well, I'm sorry, I don't look at it. Griffith replied honestly.
"That's pretty much it. β
"Can you give me back those human ones?"
"......" Galadia was stunned for a moment, rolled up the picture book and slapped it towards the head of the apprentice knight.
......
Without the album, Griffith could only read the book carefully. Suddenly, a question came to his mind: "Are you really immortal?"
"How is it possible~" Galadia, who had confiscated the album, leaned against the trunk of the tree and looked at the fire in front of her, "How can there be an immortal and immortal existence in this world? Ordinary elves can live to be 300 years old, and the powerful and noble group has a lifespan of nearly 600. I've heard of a Supreme Archmage who has lived for a thousand years, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes. This vitality has caught up with the dragon. β
"Uh-huh~" Griffith turned around, and could fully appreciate the slender and straight leg lines of his companion, "Then your reproduction speed must not be fast, otherwise this world must be full of elves." β
"Yes~" Galadia replied without mind, "When I was at home, the greeting we greeted was 'The fertility rate has dropped again this year~', just like you humans and chatting and asking if you have eaten." β
"Real Fake ......"
"If you become a great hero, the kingdom of the elves will open its doors to you. Before this, well~ you can't verify it anyway," the elf lay down and wrapped himself in a blanket, "A person like you, even if you study in Holmonwards, you can't become a spellcaster, and the witcher has another way to cultivate." You'll choose between the 'Paladin' of the Church and the 'Spellbreaker' of the Military, right?"
Griffith looked at the elf girl with a curious and ignorant gaze, and then shook his head blankly: "There is not much talk about the cultivation of extraordinary people in the non-commissioned officer school. Half a year ago, the Legion conducted an assessment on me, and the evaluation was that I was in the position of a new recruit in the Sequence 9 of the Spellbreaker Pathway. The Earl's Court will consider these issues. β
"Well," Galadia nodded, "that's the candidate for the 'Paladin' and 'Spellbreaker'. The paladin path will not waste mental power, and your feudal lord will most likely choose this for you, and it will be on the same trajectory as your human hero, Knight Roland. β
I know this man!!!
This great hero was also a trainee knight who served in the Legion. Fate gave him the opportunity to step onto the stage of the times, and together with his companions, he crushed the conspiracy of the forces of the dark arts during the famous war of the usurpers more than a decade ago.
Dragon Slayer, Sword of the Kingdom, Vanguard of Light, Friend of Elves and Earth Spirits...... Kings of different races did not hesitate to bestow honorific titles on him, and bards, academies, and armies praised his exploits.
Excited, Griffith sat up, reminiscing about the story of Knight Roland, while carefully checking his equipment and starting the night shift.
The area they were in now was on the western edge of the Eastern Province, just a few days away from the center of the thriving kingdom, and was no longer considered an inaccessible area. But even so, the two will not be careless, and if they camp outside, they will definitely arrange a rotation of guards.
In this area, jackals and other fierce beasts have long been wiped out. There is also a small army stationed in the area, and there is no way for all kinds of monsters to survive under the strict patrol system.
So, what about the barmaid saying that the traveler was missing?
Griffith pricked up his ears, not letting go of any suspicious noise in the darkness. There was an occasional crackling sound from the fire in front of him, and from time to time a few insects and birds could be heard. There didn't seem to be that ominous aura or sound in the darkness.
