Chapter Twenty-Three: Where Have I Been (Ask for Collection!)
The Sunset Mountains, a huge mountain range that stretches through the western part of the kingdom for hundreds of miles. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info got its name because after the sun passed over the top of the mountain range, the sky darkened. Lush vegetation and abundant species, it is a vast treasure trove that nurtures the people who live at both ends of the mountains. Most of the scattered villages are located on the edge of the mountains, and most of the inhabitants of the villages make a living by collecting medicine and hunting.
The golden-billed goose is a creature endemic to the Sunset Mountains, and this bird is named for the brilliant golden color of its beak when it shines in the sun. Golden-billed geese love to fly and spend most of their lives flying around in mid-air, only returning to their nests at night when they are resting.
In the early days, the gold-billed goose built its nest in low bushes, but due to the particularity of the beak of the golden-billed goose, many powerful people rushed to buy it. All of a sudden, the value of the golden beak skyrocketed, and people hunted and killed the golden-billed goose. As a last resort, the golden-billed goose built its nest on the top of the mountain, and the steep rock wall blocked the thoughts of most people, so the golden-billed goose survived.
As usual, the golden-billed geese flew freely in the sky against the wind. Suddenly, a wave of spatial fluctuations appeared, and one more person suddenly appeared in the air. The nearby golden-billed geese were frightened and flapped their wings and flew away.
The extra person was none other than Wright, and before he could say anything, he fell straight down. Fortunately, it was deep in the jungle, with lush trees, and with the buffer of branches and bushes, although he was injured, he managed to land smoothly.
Wright unleashed a healing spell on himself, and in the place covered by the white light, the place where he felt hot just now because of the injury suddenly felt a coolness, and the wound that was still bleeding quickly scabbed.
By dealing with his injuries, Wright had time to observe where he was. The trees and grass around are so tall that you can't see where you are. But this wasn't a problem for Wright, who spent his childhood climbing trees as the most common pastime. Wright had nimble hands and feet, and among children his age and even older, he was the best climber, and only Wright had climbed the highest position of the huge oak tree at the entrance of the village.
Using his hands and feet, Wright quickly climbed the tallest tree in the vicinity. People always see the farthest from high places, but unfortunately what Wright sees in the trees is still an endless green patch, and there seems to be no end in sight. In the distance, there was a bright silver ribbon, which was supposed to be a river running through the woods.
In this case, Wright had no choice but to give up his plan to directly look for a place where the population would gather. At this time, people are always used to live with water, which is for the convenience of water. Thinking of the river he had just seen, Wright went in that direction, and if he went downstream, he should come across a village or a city.
Walking in the forest is very different from walking in normal times, because the view in the forest is limited and the branches and leaves are blocked, so it is time-consuming and laborious. Often it doesn't seem very far away, and it often takes more time and effort to walk.
It was early in the darkness of the mountain, and before Wright had reached the river, it was already getting dark. Thirsty and tired, Wright decided to stop for a night's rest and continue his journey towards the river the next morning. There is no water source in this place, and occasionally there is some standing water on the ground that cannot be drunk, because it must be full of bacteria and parasites. But fortunately, it is the turn of summer and autumn, and the last thing that is missing in the forest is fruit.
Nothing happened to watch the unknown animal eat the wild fruit, and Wright also picked a handful, and didn't care whether it was clean or not, and directly sent it to his mouth to eat. One bite down, the mouth is full of relish, and the thirst is quenched. Since he didn't expect this to happen in advance, Wright didn't have the tools to start a fire, so he had to eat more wild fruits to fill his stomach.
Wright, who was full, felt a little tired at this time, too, after walking in the forest for most of the day, it was strange that he was not tired. You can't sleep on the ground without a campfire, or the wild animals will make Wright realize the cruelty of the forest. Wright found a big tree that was hugging thick, climbed up the tree and found a suitable branch, and released a dance of light with his hand, and fell into a deep sleep.
The night was quiet, except for the occasional chirping of insects, and the bright moonlight shone through the trees on the branches and the ground, like a scene in a dream. Wright slept soundly, as if he had returned to the warm bed of his cabin. The summoned ball of light quietly swirled back and forth above Wright, loyally guarding Wright.
Going down the long river, there is a small village standing at the edge of the river. The population of the village is not large, less than a hundred people. The village doesn't have a name, and no one thinks of giving it a name, because there aren't many places where you can use it.
There is only one winding path leading to the outside of the village, and the herbs collected by the villagers and the animal skins they hunt are all sent along this rugged path to be sold outside, and then some necessities of life are brought back. Because of the long distance and the need to pass through the forest, it is often after the herbs and furs have accumulated to a certain extent that a group of people will travel to the nearest city to exchange daily necessities.
Karui is almost fifty years old this year, but his body is still strong. In fact, this is also a common trait of the inhabitants in the deep mountains, enough exercise and abundant food in the mountains often give them a strong physique. Even if you are sick, you often use your own medicine, and as for the effect, it is only fate.
The older the people who live in the mountains, the greater the role they can play. Whether it's hunting experience or the ability to survive in the wild, they are always much more reliable than young people with too much experience. Most of the mountain people are illiterate and cannot educate the next generation through written records, and all they can rely on is the word of mouth of their ancestors.
Kalu's wife was seriously ill, and if she was in the city, she would have to hire a doctor. But deep in the forest, the concept of a doctor does not exist. When the villagers are sick, it is often the elders who use herbs based on their previous experience. If you encounter an unfamiliar disease, then use the medicine according to a similar case, and if it succeeds, it will be passed on to the next generation as a prescription; if it fails, it can only be said that it is fate.
In Kalu's possession, there was a cure for his wife's illness, but there was one herb that could only be gleaned from the steep rock face. So, Karui prepared dry food and tools and went alone to the rock face deep in the jungle to bring back hope for his wife's recovery.
