Chapter 32: Spirit Bear
The night is dark and the weather is freezing, and the surrounding area is covered with snow, and the coniferous forest is covered with thick snowflakes, as if any movement can cause a small avalanche.
Rod felt like he was lying on the ground, surrounded by a snow-colored forest with no end in sight, it was supposed to be winter, and yet, Rod didn't feel cold at all. There was silence and no people, but Rod's hearing and vision were so acute. He could even hear the rustling of insects crawling through the dirt, could see birds resting on trees miles away, and could feel the chirping of leaves as the breeze blew through the forest.
Rod rolled over and tried to get up, however, for a split second, he reached out his left hand, only to find that his body was covered in thick hair. He became a forest bear, a war bear of immense size.
"This can't be, this must be a dream!"
Rod said to himself.
However, the dream was so clear that he could control the bear's body, feel the bear's body temperature, and even feel the hot blood rushing in his body, helping him resist the cold of the Northland. He could feel the icy cold wind in his ears and the soft snowflakes under his feet.
If this is a dream, why is it so real?
Rhodes was puzzled.
He tried to get used to the body, and slowly got up, and the snowflakes on his body fell like small avalanches. Standing in front of the tree, Rhodes suddenly found that his body surpassed that of an ordinary forest bear.
He took two steps and his vision was so clear.
Soon, the sound of beasts was heard in the forest in the distance. It is not a normal beast, but a primitive, wild and bloodthirsty herd.
Rod could feel the disgusting smell emanating from them. It's as if this white bear is himself, and he is this white bear.
Since he couldn't get out of the dream, he tried to find an exit in the dream. The snow was still falling.
The white bear walks through the thick snow, the thick pads on its feet make this stealth silent, and the white fluffy fur on its body helps to hide its tracks.
At a close enough distance, Rhodes stopped the White Bear. It lay on its stomach in the grass and observed, and a group of wild beasts came up to it...... Beastmen, to be exact! They look muscular, they are strong. It has a pair of misshapen hooves that look thick and powerful. The Beastmen at the front are the Hornless, under-mutated humans, with red or brown skin, and a pair of imfully developed horns, who are thinner and more thin, and act as scouts.
These hornless beasts were followed by a large group of horned beasts, the main force in the ranks of the beastmen. Most of them have huge horns, which are said to thicken and lengthen with age and bloodlust. The thicker the horns, the higher the status of the beastmen in their tribe.
The beastmen swaggered through the forest, and the white bears lurked in the grass beside them, but they could not detect them.
"Humans, towns, castles, ......"
Rod could vaguely understand a few words.
"Where are they going?"
He asked Spirit Bear, however, Spirit Bear was originally himself. In this realm, Rhodes is the forest bear, and the bear is Rhodes. No one answered him except the howling of the north wind.
The beastman moved on, and Rhodes followed. Finally, at a close enough distance, Rhodes saw a white castle. Its black walls were covered with snow, the top part was snow-white, the middle was black, and the bottommost part, the outer perimeter of the castle, was also snow-white.
"Blackhammer Castle!"
Finally, Rod saw it clearly. Isn't that castle its own territory? White bear, why did white bear bring himself here? What does it want to tell itself?
However, without waiting for Rod to ask, a loud noise from outside the sky dragged Rod out of this dream.
Opening his eyes in pain, Rhodes found that the person he was facing was none other than his subordinate, Lawrence the Ranger.
Everything is back to normal, Blackhammer is at his feet, in this familiar room. It's just that Lawrence seems to be talking excitedly. "Lord, the beastmen are coming! they're crawling up!" Finally, after a few seconds, Rod could hear what Lawrence was shouting.
"What?beastmen!?"
The information poured into his brain, and Rod asked in surprise.
"Yes, beastmen, they have climbed up with siege ladders!"
Lawrence the Ranger replied.
"Organize soldiers to block and destroy the ladder!"
Rod yelled.
"We've done that, but there are so many herds that they've taken over part of the castle. Lord, quick, you have to make a decision. We won't last long!"
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"What just happened, less than five minutes! I came to call you as soon as possible. Virgil had already organized his troops to block it. ”
Lawrence explained as he helped Rhodes put on his armor.
However, the anxious Rhodes did not wear armor, but directly picked up the long sword and axe hanging on the wall, and ordered Lawrence the Ranger to take him to see it immediately. "Go, go now, stop the beast!" Rod commanded loudly.
The walls are the strongest line of defense for humanity, and once the city is breached, the meagre manpower of Blackhammer will not be able to stop the slaughter of the beastmen.
Rhodes almost ran to the fallen area of the castle in a wild manner. Lawrence the Ranger barely followed, and the others fell behind breathlessly.
The Fall Zone is located in the southwest, and here is a blind spot where the Beastmen have set up a ladder that is just not easy to detect.
"Follow me!"
Before he could ask anything else, Rhodes drew his sword and ordered his men to rush forward with him. Several castle guards were armed with bows, arrows and spears, retreating and retreating, and when they saw the lord himself in battle, they couldn't help but rush forward with Rhodes.
The cold wind mixed with snowflakes blew on the Black Hammer Castle, and in the corridor, Rhodes rushed out with his sword, and the first beastman who rushed up was pierced in the abdomen by the Black Hammer Lord's sword, and there was no time to execute the other party, Rhodes stepped on the beastman's chest, pulled out the long sword, and slashed at the next opponent with a roar.
As if he possessed the strength of a giant bear, he knocked the Beastman warrior down, slitting his throat before he could raise his sword. Warm blood splattered on his face, and Rod wiped a handful of blood stains from his face and continued to slash to the next one.
The furious horned beast raised its huge battle axe and slashed at it, but Rhodes quickly dodged it, and at the same time, the cold iron greatsword slashed at the opponent's lower plate, cutting a deep wound in the beastman's thigh. While the beastman was screaming and roaring, the sharp cold iron sword stabbed through his throat from the bottom up. Blood poured down like rain, watering Rhodes and completely staining Rhodes into a bloody man.
However, regardless of the image, Rhodes continued to rush and kill. Every time a beastman comes up, the danger of the castle being lost increases. Although there were archers on the tower to stop the beastmen who climbed the castle, they were still too ineffective. The speed of shooting is nowhere near as fast as the Beastmen can climb.
"Call Caroline!
In a hurry, Rhodes thought of the Frost Witch, right now, more than a dozen beastmen climbed up from under the siege ladder every minute, and with the current combat efficiency, there was absolutely no chance of victory. Rod yelled at Lawrence, the Ranger next to him, and Lawrence quickly retracted his bow and squeezed out of the crowd. Searching for Caroline.
Everywhere there were swaying figures, and the firelight reflected the panicked crowd. Obviously, in this chaotic situation, it is even more difficult to find a particular person.
