Chapter 143: Amitabha

Li Shimin saw that Liu Hongji was calm, wise, and extraordinary, and he had the intention of making friends in his heart, he looked at Liu Hongji with admiration, and asked, "What are Brother Liu's plans in the future?"

Liu Hongji did not hide his true thoughts, and replied solemnly:

"The purpose of my trip is to try Erlangjun, to see your martial arts and personality, and then to see if it is worth taking refuge in."

"Now it seems that what the guards of the official office said is not a lie, Erlangjun is indeed the dragon and phoenix among people, not only is he excellent in martial arts, but he can also be honest with people, although he is noble, he has no arrogance. If he does not give up, Liu is willing to follow him to the death in the future."

After that, Liu Hongji arched his hand to Li Shimin.

------

Li Shimin listened to Liu Hongji praise himself, and said humbly,

"Thank you, Brother Liu, for your praise. Shimin is young, immoral and incompetent, and it is a blessing to be valued by Brother Liu. If Brother Liu is interested, in this troubled world, if you and I can help each other, we may be able to achieve great things."

Liu Hongji gave his hand again and said to Li Shimin, "Since Erlangjun can afford to be below, then it is decided, and in the future, I, Liu Hongji, will be the only one who looks forward to Erlangjun."

------

A few people talked while eating, and it took about half an hour, and everyone finished finishing before they got back on the road again, and in the team, there was one more Liu Hongji.

Because of the delay on the road for too much time, the sun has turned west, and the day has arrived, but the journey to Shibi Temple has only just been halfway. The people did not dare to tarnish any longer, so they hastened their pace and let their horses go.

When they arrived at Shen, the group arrived at the town at the foot of the mountain where the Shibi Temple is located, there are many pilgrims in the town, and there are several inns for pilgrims to rest and stay.

Because it was not early, it was a little too late to go up the mountain, so the group found a clean and tidy inn to stay, waiting for the early day to go up the mountain.

------

Nothing to say for a night.

Early in the morning of the second day, everyone got up, had a meal at the inn, and went to Shibi Temple to offer incense.

Because the town is still nearly ten miles away from Shibi Temple, everyone still rides horses along the mountain road slowly.

It took about half an hour to get to the mountain gate.

Everyone dismounted in front of the temple, and Li Shimin, Guanyinwen and Liu Hongji handed over the horses to the servants and asked them to wait outside the temple.

Lu Zheng, Qin Lan and Shi Qin followed behind.

------

The mountain gate of Shibi Temple is a single-eaves type door opening.

In the middle of the ancient seal written "Shibi Temple" three big characters, simple and robust.

Entering the mountain gate, it is facing the Daxiong Treasure Hall.

Behind it are the halls of the Seven Buddhas and the Thousand Buddhas.

From low to high, it is staggered and blends in with the mountain.

------

There is a stone tablet on the east side of the Daxiong Treasure Hall, which is the "Tanluan Monk Tablet", which records the experience of the previous life of the senior monk Tanluan, who recited the Buddha's past life here.

Master Tan Luan is a generation of grandmasters of the Pure Land sect of Middle-earth Buddhism, who founded a sect here, spread the Pure Land doctrine with Shibi Temple as the center, and advocated pinching beads and chanting Buddha, since then the Pure Land belief of Mida has rapidly spread to the people.

Now by the world's famous monk Dao Xuan Master presided over the Shibi Temple, the temple incense flourished, pilgrims like clouds.

------

Guanyin found that the pilgrims in Shibi Temple were different from Zheng Guanyin, who was eating fasting and chanting Buddha, and they were also very different from the pilgrims who went to other temples to offer incense.

The pilgrims here are all walking with Buddhist beads in their hands, and their mouths are constantly chanting "Amitabha", and everyone walks by as if no one is around, turning a blind eye to the people around them.

Li Shimin, Guanyin and others saw that the pilgrims were so pious, and they were also solemn in their hearts, and they were all silent, not daring to say the slightest lie, for fear of blaspheming the gods.

------

Li Shimin motioned to Guanyin to go to the Daxiong Treasure Hall to offer incense, and several people were also like other pilgrims, respectfully to the Daxiong Treasure Hall.

In the hall of the Great Hung Treasure, the sound of the wooden fish, the Sanskrit sound is curling, and it can't help but make people calm down.

In the middle of the main hall, the statue of Shakyamuni is enshrined, and on both sides of the main hall are eighteen arhats.

Shakyamuni smiled kindly, smiling at all living beings in the world.

Li Shimin, Guanyin and others knelt down to worship incense in turn, donated ten taels of gold merit, and were guided by the little monk to write down the names of several people in the merit book.

------

After worshipping the Buddha, the six people exited the Daxiong Hall and went to other places behind to watch.

After a short walk, a middle-aged monk came to Li Shimin, pinched the Buddha beads in one hand, stood on his chest with the other, and proclaimed "Amitabha Buddha" in his mouth, and asked Li Shimin, "Is the benefactor Erlangjun of the Tang State Mansion?"

Li Shimin was surprised in his heart, and secretly said, why do monks here know themselves?

He replied with doubts, "It's Li Shimin of the Tang State Mansion down there, what's the matter with the master looking for him?"

The monk replied, "Amitabha" again,

"The host heard that Li Erlang Jun came to our temple, and respectfully invited the benefactor to the abbot to speak."

The so-called abbot is the place where the temple presides over the retreat.

------

Li Shimin, Guanyin and others came to the abbot's room with the middle-aged monks.

An old monk in his sixties was already standing in front of the door of the abbot's room and waiting.

This monk is burly, with white eyebrows and white hair, double earlobes, a kind face, a solemn appearance, wearing a white cloth monk's robe, and a high-ranking monk at a glance.

The old monk folded his hands, smiled slightly, stood in front of the steps, pronounced "Amitabha" in his mouth, and then introduced himself,

"Old man, I am waiting for you to come."

------

This monk is the main attendant of the temple, Master Dao, known as the Xihe Zen Master.

He preached to his followers the idea of the Pure Land created by Tan Luan, advocated pinching beads and reciting the Buddha, and persuaded lay believers to recite "Amitabha".

Venerable Dao Hui often made his own prayer beads and gave them to his devotees, teaching them to recite the Buddha's name.

He himself recites the Buddha's name every day, at least 70,000 times.

------

Master Dao Xuan let Li Shimin, Guanyin, and Liu Hongji into the abbot, and Lu Zheng, Qin Lan, and Shiqin waited outside.

Several futons were placed in the room, and Master Dao asked the three of them to sit down, and then sat on the middle futon himself.

Several people sat down, and Li Shimin, Guanyinwen, and Liu Hongji each introduced themselves.

Li Shimin arched his hand and asked, "I don't know what the mage asked me to wait for?"

Master Dao Xuan pronounced "Amitabha" and said to Li Shimin,

"I just learned that the guest monk came to pay respects, saying that Erlang Jun of the Tang State Mansion had come to visit and made merits, and the old man was afraid that he would neglect the donors, so please come and use the tea and have the heart to ask for Buddhism."

Li Shimin hurriedly thanked him, "Shimin is not talented, he knows little about Buddhism, and the master is a high-ranking monk, and I hope to be able to enlighten it."

------

Guanyin just saw the believers in this temple, different from the believers in other places, all pinching beads and chanting Buddha, so she had the heart to ask for advice.

She sat up straight and asked solemnly, "The little girl has something to ask the Master, why do the believers in the temple twist the Buddha beads in their hands and keep chanting "Amitabha" in their mouths?"

Venerable Dao Xuan explained the doubts of Guanyin, "This is the method of pure land practice pioneered by Venerable Tan Luan, twisting Buddha beads in his hands, proclaiming the Buddha's name in his mouth, and believing in the boundless Dharma in his heart. Then you can get rid of all distracting thoughts in your heart, the six roots will be quiet, and you will be dedicated to the Buddha, and over time, you will show the supreme power of the Dharma."

"The reason why this practice is effective is that Venerable Tan Luan saw that many believers are illiterate, and the meaning of the sutras is obscure, and it is difficult for ordinary believers to understand the meaning of the sutras, and it is difficult for them to be extradited by the supreme Dharma."

"This method is simple and cheap to cultivate, as long as you firmly believe in the supreme power of the Dharma, and chant the Buddha's name from time to time to remind yourself."

------

Guanyin asked Venerable Dao for advice, "Do you chant the Buddha's name to remind yourself that "the Dharma is boundless"?"

Master Dao Xuan smiled and bowed his head, "That's it, so that the believers will not be distracted by the incomprehensible scriptures."

Guanyin asked Venerable Venerable again, "What are the six pure roots?"

Master Dao Xuan said, "The six roots are the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind."

"The eyes, ears, nose, and tongue are all very clear to mention, the body refers to the feelings in various parts of the body, and the mind refers to the thoughts in the heart."

"If the six roots are quiet, then there is no desire and no desire, and all the sorrows and troubles of the world can be abandoned."

------

Guanyin has always been thoughtful, and she will get to the bottom of things she doesn't understand.

"If the world has no desires and no desires, there will be no more fighting for me in this world, and there will be no more conquest from now on."

"It's just that everyone has no enterprising spirit, who will make contributions and defend the country? Who will work every day and produce? Without the motivation to work hard to run the industry, where will my generation's food and clothing come from?"

Guanyin's maid asked questions again and again, Li Shimin was afraid that she would be disrespectful to Master Daoxuan, so he hurriedly handed her a look, signaling her not to take it too seriously.

------

Venerable Dao Xuan still smiled kindly, and said, "The Buddha has a fate, but it is difficult to cross all sentient beings."

Guanyin asked, "What is a destined person?"

Venerable Dao Hui replied, "All those who have the heart to use the power of the Dharma to get rid of the troubles in their hearts are destined for my Buddha."

Guanyin then asked Venerable Venerable, "Can't anyone who has no relationship with the Buddha be able to cross over?"

A smile appeared on the face of the Dao Master, "All sentient beings want people like the two donors to cross."

------

Li Shimin was surprised when he heard Master Dao Xuan say this, "How do we cross people?"

Master Dao Xuan glanced at Li Shimin and Guanyin, and then looked at Liu Hongji, "My two benefactors, Guanyin, Long Wei Fengyi, are not like mortals, and Liu Shizhu also has a general and a prestige, and he will definitely be able to achieve meritorious deeds in the future, and he will be able to cross the world."

Li Shimin wondered, "How can we cross people?"

Venerable Dao Hui replied solemnly, "If the two donors take the common people of the world as their minds, save the people from fire and water, and return the world to peace, it is also the way to cross people, and eventually they can cultivate themselves and become Buddhas."

Li Shimin already understood the meaning of Master Dao's words, but it was inconvenient to point it out, so he thanked him, "Shimin already knows it in his heart, Master Xie has enlightened."

In the end, Venerable Dao Hui pinned his hopes, "If the two donors can make the people of the world, the talented people match the positions with virtue, the farmers cultivate and weave for the time, the craftsmen make a living by their crafts, and the merchants can benefit from the circulation of food, then the world will be in peace, and this will be the same as my Buddha."

------

Li Shimin, Guanyin Wan and Liu Hongji are all extremely smart people, how could they not understand the meaning of Master Daoxuan's words?

Li Shimin bowed his hand to Venerable Dao Xuan, "Shimin has benefited a lot from the teaching today, and he will definitely remember the words of Venerable Master and live up to his expectations."

Master Dao Xuan nodded with a smile, thinking in his heart, today's discussion of the Tao should also be a supreme merit, although it has not crossed these three people, but it can cross countless people in the world.

Guanyin asked Venerable Dao Hui about other Buddhist scriptures and teachings, and Venerable Dao Sui answered them one by one, and after a long conversation, the three of them decided to leave.

Venerable Dao Xuan proclaimed the Buddha's name, first stood up majestically, saluted Li Shimin, Guanyin and Liu Hongji, and then sent them out of the abbot's room.

------

After Li Shimin, Guanyin and Liu Hongji gave their respects again, they said goodbye to Master Dao and left Shibi Temple.

Venerable Dao Xuan watched the three of them leave, and then proclaimed the Buddha's name "Amitabha".
