Chapter Ninety-Three: Revisiting the Waterhole

(There is a happy event in the family today, and it will be updated early to celebrate)

It's really lively tonight, I don't know if it's because I haven't been in the mountains for a long time and I'm not used to it, or if it's really different from other places.

"Where there is prey, there must be hunters. The father whispered, and told everyone to immediately raise their vigilance, take the guys, and prevent any animals from approaching at any time.

The children had been watching this novelty as a novelty, but when they heard their father say this, they immediately woke up, quickly pinched the tools in their hands, and listened carefully to the movement outside.

Father looked at the dog and the little wolf again, they were all half-closed eyes and pretended to sleep, it didn't seem that the problem was big, was he a little too vigilant just now, but in this mountain even if he didn't sleep all night, it didn't matter, the most important thing was to ensure absolute safety, and there was no harm in being vigilant.

While he was thinking wildly, he heard something in the waterhole playing through the maze, and the sound of frolicking and playing overshadowed the other sounds.

In general, animals that like to play in the water are not very dangerous.

The father was a little more relaxed at this time, adding firewood piece by piece with his hands, turned to look at the mother and second son who were sleeping soundly, and smiled embarrassedly at the eldest son and the younger sister.

Just as they were about to laugh, they suddenly heard a scream outside, as if an animal had been caught by another animal, and then they heard the sound of desperate struggle and kicking and bouncing with their legs and feet, which immediately woke everyone up.

I can't hear what kind of animal it is, but from the size of this sound, it should not be too small, at least the size of two dogs.

Needless to say, it must have been a beast of prey, a meat-eating animal.

The father was about to wake up his mother and second son, when two little wolves arched towards them and woke them up.

When the mother and second son woke up, they jumped up and rushed to the door when they woke up, and asked what was wrong.

The father hurriedly waved his hand, signaling them not to be nervous.

The ten dogs and the two little wolves also lowered their buttocks, raised their heads, and lifted the manes on their necks, looking very fierce, as if they were ready to rush out to fight at any time.

They have an innate spirituality for animals, and from their smell or movement, they can roughly judge the type and appearance of the animal, as well as the degree of danger. Judging by their expressions, the animal outside must be a fierce fellow, maybe a few more.

In this way, they basically did not rest, and they confronted each other all night, and by the time dawn, they were already tired with back pain and soreness, but fortunately there were no other accidents, and no animals approached the stone cave where they lived.

Everyone took turns to rest hastily, and after dawn, they opened the log door and watched nervously at the situation outside the cave, everything was as calm as before, no different from yesterday, except that there were a few bushes by the waterhole that were overwhelmed by some animal, and there were some purple blood and a few handfuls of hair left on the grass, which must have been left by the animal that screamed last night.

Everyone looked at these things, and the body parts of the unlucky animal were not visible at all, which showed the ferocity and hunger of the opponent it encountered.

The two little wolves followed the jungle for a while and searched for a while, and then came back with a call, probably not finding any clues.

The mother and the elder sister were busy making breakfast for everyone, and the father and his three sons watched for a while, and then hurriedly split up to chop firewood nearby, some were collecting dry firewood, some were chopping wet firewood, and they were all busy with their own work.

While chopping wood, the eldest son also happened to find a nest of birds' eggs, there were twelve eggs, the eggs were smaller than the eggs, but not much smaller, and it was estimated that the bird was not much smaller.

Seeing that his mother had begun to gather for a long time, he didn't hesitate, carefully picked up the eggs one by one, put them in his pocket and took them back to his mother.

The mother broke the eggs and poured them into the porridge and meat pot, and everyone could eat them later, including the dog and the wolf.

Mother made a lot of breakfast today, and she prepared it for the little wolf who had returned to report the news, the people who came to fetch the ducklings, and the dogs.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before they were about to prepare for breakfast, they heard the barking of dogs and little wolves from under the creek, and it seemed that the messenger had been successful, and the dogs here also barked, and everyone happily came out of the cave, and saw the big uncle, the old uncle, and the cousin come out of the brook with the little wolf and four or five dogs, and the big uncle also carried a cage for ducklings.

At this moment, several dogs and wolf cubs behind my father suddenly screamed, and they all turned and ran towards the waterhole.

The sudden change startled everyone, and they all followed the backs of the dogs and looked in the direction of the waterhole.

It turned out that it was a capybara who had just slipped out of the bushes and into the waterhole when it was spotted by dogs.

By the time everyone ran to the waterhole, the dog and the wolf had already surrounded the capybara, and they were so anxious that the capybara was scurrying around in the waterhole looking for an exit.

When my father saw this, he said happily, this thing is really good, and the eldest uncle can just take it back and give everyone a taste.

Uncle Lao said, don't worry, he estimates that there is one nearby, generally speaking, this thing is coming out in groups, at least a pair, or everyone first catch this, use a cage to lock it in the water, and then attract other capybaras to come over, get more back, the family has not eaten meat for a long time, and this capybara is very fat, just to get some oil for the family, the meat oil at home does not seem to be much.

That's a good idea. So they took four long vines, tied them to the four corners of the cage where the ducklings were to be contained, and each of them took a rope and divided it into four directions, and carried the cage into the air along the edge of the waterhole, and went to the panicked capybara in the water.

The capybara ran away several times, and it wasn't until half the morning that the capybara was put into the cage, and everyone was exhausted.

After loading, several people quickly tightened the rope, pulled to the shore, and quickly wrapped a layer of rope around the outside of the cage, and arranged for several dogs to watch from the side to prevent the capybara from escaping. At this time, everyone can take care of breakfast, and let the dog and the little wolf take turns to eat.

After eating, the mother and the full sister hurriedly dug the eels with hoes in the mud full of rotting leaves nearby, used them to feed the ducklings, and dug a mud puddle on the ground in the stone cave, and then put a large leaf on it, and poured it with water, so that the ducklings could drink, and they had not drunk and eaten for a day.

The others hurriedly pulled the capybara cage up with ropes and lowered it in the middle of the pool, and tightened the four ropes and tied them to the stones or trees by the waterhole, so that the head of the capybara was just above the water, so that it could not be flooded and could be seen by other capybaras.

All the dogs and wolf cubs hid in the bushes or grass around the waterhole, keeping an eye on the water and the changes around them.

Except for the mother and the full sister, who were busy greeting the ducklings in the stone cave, the others either climbed the nearby tree and watched the movement under the tree, or stood under the platform above the waterhole and condescended to observe the situation, or quietly lay down in the grass with the dog and the little wolf.
