Chapter 16: The Dead

The gray-white mist is like cotton wool floating in the air, constantly surging and rolling, as if as soon as you stop, it will slowly wrap around and merge into it. The damp and icy air streaked across the fugitives' faces, and the surrounding scenery sped backwards in a blurred white, reminding them that this was a fabled forbidden place.

"Watch your step!" shouted Tandra, who was riding at the front, to the crowd. The complex terrain of the Death Fog Swamp caused them great trouble, and the muddy ground was full of moss, reeds, mosses and other swamp plants. Beneath the scattered verdant lies countless muddy puddles. No one dares to step on it easily, because these shallow-looking puddles are likely to trap you in them, sinking deeper and deeper until they take your life.

"Hurry, hurry!" Gadoré, who was biting at the back, was not having a good time, and he was suffering from the low visibility in the swamp with a full forty riders from Kugil. What's even more hateful is that the prey in front is like an astute leopard, appearing and disappearing in the fog, and there is a tendency to gradually pull away.

The arduous pursuit and escape continued, but these strange visitors who went deep into the Death Fog swamp did not notice, and in the quagmire beside them, a pair of dark yellow eyes floated on the pitch-black mud and quietly opened, and the spindle-shaped pupils revealed a trace of cold coldness.

Sovereign crouched on his horse, following closely behind Paislin and Old Shaun, and he could hear the sound of horses' hooves behind him. He didn't expect that the pursuers would be able to pass through the Echo Canyon so quickly. Thankfully, at the current pace, there's a good chance they'll be throwing their tails off again.

At that moment, a dull crash to the ground, accompanied by the neighing of horses, came from behind him. Sovereign looked back and saw that Kuhl, at the back of the group, had been thrown to the ground, stirring up a cloud of mud and grass clippings, and his horse seemed to have tripped over the vines, where it was struggling in pain to get to its feet.

"Leave me alone!" Kull got up from the ground and drew his sword from his waist, his left arm hanging limply beside him as if it had bruised on touch.

Thomas, who was best of the best with Kull, turned his head with difficulty and closed his eyes in pain, ready for all sacrifices from the day they left Oak City.

"Kuhl!" Tandra roared loudly at the front, his eyes bloodshot.

What happened in this moment, like a hammer, struck Solveland's heart. "Do you want to run away again, do you want someone to give everything for their worthless life?" Sovereign grabbed the reins of his horse, and the galloping horse neighed and stopped its hooves, then turned around and ran towards the landed Kuhl, "What do I have left to flee to the end?

"Your Highness!" Thomas stopped his steed as well, and shouted back, his eyes welling up with tears.

"Veran! hell!" said Tandra, and after glancing at old Shaun, they turned their horses' heads around and chased after them.

Seeing Sovereign galloping over, Kuhl was stunned on the spot. "Your Highness, don't come, ...... quickly"

Before he could finish speaking, a louder voice erupted from the pursuers not far away. "Catch them for me!" shouted Cadore excitedly, seeing the opportunity he had been looking for.

Sovereign urged his horse faster and faster, rushing towards the pursuers led by Gadoré, as if the fallen Kuhl had become the end of their pursuit and escape.

"Your Highness!" Kuhl yelled as he watched the young figure rushing past him like the wind in the flying mud, tears streaming down his face.

"If there is an end to the escape, then here it is!" Sovereign whispered, jumping backwards from his horse.

"Get out of the way!" Gadoré yelled as he looked at the bloated and narrow line behind him, clearly not expecting Sovereign to do so.

After that, Soveland's horse rushed into the ranks of the pursuers, and with a loud crash and screams, several of the riders who could not avoid it were tripped to the ground along with their men and horses, and the whole team charged at a slow speed.

"Your Highness, you shouldn't have come back!" said Kuhl as he ran over and held Sovereign in his arms.

Sovereign quickly rose from the mud and drew his sword against the cavalry who was charging at him, keeping Kuhl in his back. "If I don't come back, I'll regret it for the rest of my life......," he said with a laugh.

"Kill them for me!" Gadore was already mad, if possible, he didn't even care about sending two cold corpses to the Imperial Council, he had had enough.

Gadore's cavalry was getting closer, and Soveran could even see the hideous faces of the opponents, as well as the sharp weapons. He stood his sword in front of him, and in a pair of blue eyes inherited from the Kantbach family, burst out with the most fearless determination, and he used all his strength to shout: "Come on, come on, come on, come ......!"

The flying horse's hooves seemed to cut through the fog, and finally coincided with the two lonely figures. Sovereign roared, and with all his might, slashed the razor-sharp blade upward. In an instant, the neighing of the war horse mixed with gushing blood erupted in the cold and humid air, and an oblique wound tore open the horse's neck, cutting off the rider on the horse's back, and waving a shower of scarlet blood.

Several cavalrymen next to them commanded their horses to avoid the corpses of their comrades, and behind them, more cavalrymen raised their weapons in their hands. "Be careful!" Kuhl shouted behind Essaoweran.

Stained red with splatters of blood, Soveran picked up his sword and headed at the enemy behind him. "Even if you die, you can't silently wither away in the dark escape!" This was the clearest roar in his heart, and even at this moment, he was ready to die.

At this moment, a heavy black shadow leaped over his head, and with the sound of the cold wind, it smashed head-on towards the speeding cavalry.

The lightless greatsword fell high, piercing the chest of one of the horsemen, piercing the horse's back, and with a deafening sound, Tandra pinned the other man to the ground. "In the name of order!" the burly figure shouted, and a mighty wave of golden air exploded from beneath his feet, like a boulder smashed into a river, knocking the cavalry beside him into the air.

The entire cavalry team was stunned, and in the nick of time, Tandra stood up brandishing his greatsword. The next moment, accompanied by a series of metal crashes, the cold rays of countless weapons crossed his sides, and he was like a giant standing tall in the raging waves, actually splitting the surging cavalry team in two from the middle. "Get out of here!" Tandra shouted, grabbing the blade of the greatsword on his shoulder, slamming it into the chest of an oncoming horse.

The whole world seemed to stand still, Tandra's roaring expression froze on his face, and the knotted muscles of his body shook under the tremendous impact of a layer of spreading tremor, and the thighs behind him sank deep into the dirt, like an iron plough that cut through the earth, setting off a layer of flying mud.

Under the shocked gaze of the cavalry, the rider rolled over Tandra's head with his mount. "Die!" Tandra shouted, and a golden arc of light rose from the ground to cut through everything in the air, leaving only corpses that fell to the ground like rags in a rain of blood.

Tandra wiped the blood from his face, turned back to Soveran and Kuhl and shouted, "Come here!

"Yes!" replied Sovereign and Kuhl, immediately joining Tandra.

At the same time, Old Sean and the others also rushed back, and they were entangled with the cavalry scattered everywhere, enclosing a large space around them, all of which were within the scope of the battlefield.

"Finn, bring me a few men and entangle the guy on horseback!" shouted Gadore to the adjutant, who clearly knew better where the focus of the battle was, for he could flee on horseback, and he who fell on the ground must stay here. "The others! Surround the three of them! Don't let one go!"

"Yes, my lord!" Finn received the order, and immediately led a few cavalry to rush towards Old Sean and the others. The rest of the cavalry formed a galloping battle circle around the three of Soveland.

Old Sean is very aware of the other party's plan, if it continues like this, Sovereign and the others trapped in the middle will be consumed alive, and there is no possibility of breaking through. "Come in with me, boys!" shouted the old man, raising his sword above his head, to Thomas and Paislin behind him.

"Rush!" replied Paislin and Thomas aloud.

Old Sean moved, and the sharply accelerated war horse led the pursuers behind him to make a graceful arc on the muddy ground, and rushed towards the ironclad battle circle.

Suddenly, the raised sword shone with a dazzling light, and countless dark golden runes emerged, as if the sword was coated with a layer of golden flames. "Kill!" In the old man's desolate roar, the flames were thrown out and slammed into one of the outermost riders.

Several dark golden runes exploded and shot rapidly among the many riders, bringing out a golden trail.

"Bang ......"

The loud crash was accompanied by a scalp-tingling cracking of bones, blasting through the battle circle of countless cavalry. Old Sean's horse crashed over several enemies in a row, and then fell heavily to the ground. With the help of this powerful momentum, the old man finally rushed into the battle circle, and after rolling on the ground a few times, he quickly got up.

Behind him, Paislin and Thomas, wielding their swords, slashed through the holes.

"It's nice to see you again!" said the old man with a smile, tucking his silver-white hair.

"Old friend, you shouldn't have rushed in!" Tandra laughed, "Come on, tell me, what's next?"

"What should I do?" ......said old Sean, patting Sovereign on the shoulder, "you come and tell him what we are going to do!"

Essaoweran and Chur looked at each other. "Kill, kill them all, rush out!"

Thomas and Paislin, who were scurrying around like fish swimming in battle, laughed together. "For the sake of the Lord God, if you say that earlier, you wouldn't have to run so far!" They rode their horses, as the only two cavalry remaining among the fugitives, to contain the possible sneak attack to the greatest extent.

Gadore was completely enraged, and the long chase consumed what little patience he had left, and since the other party had given him a chance to fight to the death, there was no reason to let it go. "Kill them all for me!" he shouted, "Everyone, squash the battle circle, hang them for me in this land!"

Following the sheriff's order, the entire cavalry corps moved rapidly, and the hooves of the galloping horses whistled, tightening the battle circle more and more. Gradually, Thomas and Paislin could no longer keep up with each other's speed, and Sovereign and others in the middle were even more so. The cascading attacks seemed endless, and as soon as he fended off the sudden slash, he didn't have to take a breath when another weapon slashed at him.

From a distance, Gadore's cavalry looked like a group of sharks that smelled blood, hiding sharp teeth in the formation that gathered and scattered, and once they found a flaw, they would swarm and tear the opponent to shreds in an instant.

Time passed little by little, and the defensive circle of Soveran and the others became crumbling in front of the tidal attack, and no amount of strong individual force could make up for the gap in numbers. They made the final resistance with complete tenacity, in fact, when they were surrounded in the battle circle, everyone knew that dying in battle was almost the doomed end of this escape.

Gadore grinned and looked at Soveran and the others who were struggling like trapped beasts. "If you surrender now, you still have a chance to live!" he tapped the whip lightly on the palm of his hand, "such a merciful suggestion is only once! Don't say no to me!"

Sovereign smiled, laughing uncontrollably. "Surrender to you?" haha......" he was really amused, "your soul will only be burned to ashes in the fire of **!

"Then die!" cried Gadoré, his red eyes filled with bloodthirsty madness, "I will tie your heads to the saddle and bring them back to the ......."

"Boom Boom Boom Boom ......"

Before Gadore could finish speaking, a series of sounds burst out of the water around the battlefield, and several tall black shadows jumped from the quagmire scattered outside the battle circle with the black mud rising into the sky.

The muddy water poured down like rain, and everyone was stunned in the face of the sudden scene. They had forgotten one of the most important things, that this was not the territory of this group of outsiders.
