At the beginning of the 20th century, Yinxu was famous for the excavation of oracle bone inscriptions.

In 1928, archaeological excavations began in Yinxu, and a large number of capital building ruins and rich cultural relics represented by oracle bone inscriptions and bronzes were unearthed, systematically showing the brilliant bronze civilization of the late Shang Dynasty in China, and establishing the scientific status of Yin Shang society as a letter history.

Yinxu has unearthed about 150,000 pieces of oracle bones. The materials recorded in the oracle bone inscriptions advanced the credible written history of China to the Shang dynasty, and also gave rise to a new discipline, oracle bone science. It is also the first capital city in China that has been documented so far and confirmed by archaeology and oracle bone inscriptions, which is composed of the ruins of the Yinxu royal tomb, the ruins of the Yinxu palace and the temple, and the oracle bone cellar.

Yinxu is located around Xiaotun Village, Yindu District, Anyang City, Yuzhou Province, with a length and width of about 6 kilometers and a total area of about 36 square kilometers, with a core area of 414 hectares and a buffer zone of 720 hectares.

The overall layout of Yinxu is strictly organized, with the ruins of Yinxu palace and temple in Xiaotun Village as the center, and it is distributed in a ring along both banks of the Huan River. The existing relics mainly include the ruins of Yinxu palace and temple, the ruins of Yinxu Wang's tomb, the ruins of Hougang and the ruins of settlements (clans), family cemeteries, oracle bone cellars, bronze casting ruins, handicraft workshops, etc.

The ruins of the palace temple are also known as the Yinxu palace area, and the three building sites of the wizards excavated here are the main body of the Yinxu palace temple area and the center of gravity of the overall planning and layout structure of the Yin king, and are divided into three groups of foundation sites by archaeologists: A, B and C. A total of 15 building foundation sites have been discovered, which is the earliest construction time and the longest used building in the palace temple area, and is considered to be the palace and residence of the Shang royal family. A total of 21 buildings in Group B have been discovered, most of which are complex in structure, huge in area, and connected to each other. These buildings are believed to be the temple buildings of the Yin royal family. A total of seventeen were found in Group C, which are believed to be the altar buildings of the Shang royal family. At present, more than 80 large-scale rammed earth building foundations have been found in the palace temple area. These building sites are broad, magnificent, and have a strict layout, and are arranged in order according to the pattern of the ancient Chinese palace buildings of "sleeping in front of the back and sleeping in the left ancestor, and the right society of the left ancestor", and are distributed in the range centered on the palace area.

Subsequently, Liu Fuzhong led Xu Le to an exhibition hall with a brief history of excavations, Xu Le looked at the pictures, from 28 to 37 years, the former Institute of History and Philology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences carried out fifteen large-scale scientific excavations of Yinxu. The total area of excavation is more than 46,000 square meters, and the ruins such as palace temples, royal tombs, handicraft workshops and other ruins have been excavated within the scope of Yinxu, and a large number of precious cultural relics have been unearthed, tens of thousands of oracle bone pieces, bronzes, jade wares, and pottery. The specific location of the "Yin Ruins" recorded in the history books was determined. It provides important scientific value for the study of the positive and negative three Taiwans, economy, history and culture of the Yin Dynasty society, and mainly displays several major archaeological discoveries in Yin Ruins.
