18. Deep wells

"Ah, we're finally here," Yu Yan said, "this is a secret entrance, the sooner we open it, the better, it's getting dark!"

At a height that Yu Yan's hand could barely reach, there was an arc made of strange words. At the bottom, although the text in some places has been missing corners and blurred, you can still see the general graphics. Above are seven stars, accompanied by a crown, and below that, there are two ancient trees, and the clearest is a star with many stars in the center.

"That's the emblem of the Leng family!" Yu Yan said. Her hand pressed down.

The sky is getting darker.

The stars shone brightly, then dimmed. Then, though there was no sign of it, a large portico began to emerge, slowly parting from the center and opening outwards until both doors were fully open. They could see a staircase climbing up the door, but it was too dark to see farther away. They stared at the scene in front of them.

He stepped up the stairs inside the door. But, at the same moment, many things happened. Yu Yan felt that something grabbed her ankles, she screamed and fell to the ground, Su Ling quickly helped her up, and shot towards the stairs, holding the soft fragrance in her hand, and couldn't help but shake her heart.

Walking at the forefront, Su Ling held the fire fold high, letting the faint light emanating from it illuminate everyone, and the wide staircase seemed to have not been forced by the years. They walked about 200 stairs to the top. At the end of the staircase is another arch and a promenade that leads to the darkness.

The hallway turned a few corners, then began to descend. It leaned down for a long time before finally flattening again. The air was starting to get hot and stuffy, but thankfully, there wasn't any strange stench mixed in. Sometimes they can also feel fresh air blowing out of the gaps in the walls, and there are many similar gaps in the walls below. In the faint light of the fire fold, Yu Yan could vaguely see stairs and arches, as well as other passages that went up, down, or simply left and right. She couldn't quite remember the terrain of such a complex tunnel.

The tunnel was still full of evil energy, much more fierce than the outside world, but Su Ling didn't care. With his special physique, he walked briskly with Yu Yan all the way.

Su Ling and the others walked into a distance again, and found several figures who had broken into the depths. Su Ling chased away, wanting to see who could walk freely in the emperor's tomb like himself, chasing for a short distance, and at a high place on a jade platform, he saw a few people dressed up, it turned out to be Leng Yuyan's father, the only few remaining Leng family members Changkong Second Elder and several of his disciples, and the other Dharma Protector Elder took people to explore the way ahead.

The Grand Elder led the group at the front as before. In his left hand he held a glittering staff that was barely enough to illuminate the ground at his feet, and in his right hand was a dragon's sword, crafted by a master in ancient times, that glowed coldly when enemies approached. Leng Houye walked in the middle, silent and solemn as before.

Fortunately, I suddenly had the Great Elder as my guide. Not only are there many forks in the road where you have to make a choice, but there are also many cavities and pits, and even deep wells where the sound of footsteps echoes. There were deep cracks in the walls and floors, and there were often all sorts of deep grooves under their feet. Some of the deep ditches were as wide as seven feet, and it took Pi Ping to muster up the courage to jump over them. There was also the sound of gurgling water below, as if some kind of huge waterwheel was operating in the dark.

It was quiet, except for the occasional dripping sound. But Yu Yan began to hear, or begin to imagine, a strange sound: a faint sound like walking barefoot. It wasn't close enough, loud enough, for her to be sure if it was really happening, but as soon as they started moving, the footsteps wouldn't stop. But this is definitely not an echo, because when they stop, the footsteps tend to continue for a while before they finally stop.

To the left of the arch they found a half-hidden stone door, but with a push of their hands it opened, revealing what appeared to be a large room carved out of the stone wall.

The Grand Elder cautiously walked in, while the others followed. "Look!" he pointed with his cane to the middle of the floor. Only then did the group see the entrance of a deep well. There were many broken rusty iron joints nearby, some of which jutted into the mouth of the deep well, and there were shards of rock nearby.

Yu Yan's curiosity made him can't help but look into the well. While the others were checking the route, he slipped quietly to the well and looked inside. A gust of cold wind swept in from the invisible abyss below. Instigated by damn curiosity, he picked up a rock and threw it down. She felt her heart beat several times before she could hear anything from below. Then, far away, there was the sound of a stone falling into deep water. But with the amplification and echo of many tunnels, the sound quickly came out.

"What's that sound?" the elder whispered. When Yu Yan admitted what he had done, the elder breathed a sigh of relief, but he was still very angry: "You stupid!" He scolded in a low voice: "This is the Emperor's Forbidden Land, there are many laws, and there are also many earth spirits, so you can't disturb it. Next time you'd better throw yourself in, and you'll save us a lot of trouble. Don't mess around anymore!"

After a few minutes, there was silence. However, there was a faint thumping sound from far away from the depths of the earth: knock, knock. They stopped what they were doing and listened. When the echo died down, they continued to hear knock, knock. It sounded like some unsettling sign, but it wasn't long before the knocking faded and ceased to be seen.

"Unless my ear is broken, it must be the sound of a hammer," said Leng Feng, a disciple.

Just as Leng Feng turned his head, he suddenly felt that he was in the direction of the West Gate, and saw a pair of shining things, as if they were the eyes of some kind of creature. He stared at the thing, feeling a little sluggish. "I must have dozed off!" he thought, "this is probably a nightmare," he said, standing up and rubbing his eyes, refusing to sit down, staring into the darkness.

But the nightmare didn't seem to stop: he could hear whispers and see the two bright lights slowly approaching.

"What is it?" he asked, uneasy.

"Try not to disturb it. The second elder said cautiously.
