Chapter 8: The Abyss Sanctuary
"That's right, when we first divided the Hallows, the reason why we handed over one of them to the Merfolk for safekeeping was because the Ice Wind Strait was unfathomable, and no one except the Merfolk could dive into such an abyss to steal the Hallows, unless a member of the Merfolk was helping the thieves!" Rogge confidently analyzed.
"If that's the case, we can find out who stole the Hallows, just by finding out the inner ghost!" Catherine said excitedly, clapping her hands lightly.
"That's right, so I'd like to be able to go to the Merfolk Temple, I wonder what Miss Tully thinks?" Rog asked, looking at Tully instead.
The mermaid was stunned for a moment, suddenly woke up from the shock, and quickly nodded: "No problem, I'll take you back to investigate!"
"Shall we go to the wet bottom of the sea? I hate it when my feathers are wet with water!" the little owl lying on Rogge's head suddenly complained.
"If that's the case, I don't mind leaving you at the village tavern, I think the fat chef with a big belly in the tavern will agree to take care of you for me, and you can sleep peacefully next to his chopping board when we get back......"
Before Rogge could finish his sentence, Lilith hurriedly interrupted him: "No, I hate stinky kitchens! I'd better go with you, maybe I can get some fish to eat!"
"That's good, it's so happily decided!" said Rog as he turned and walked towards the north side of the fishing village, when Tali behind him stopped him, pointed in the direction of the west coast and asked, "Where are you going?"
"Don't worry, Miss Mermaid, we're going to your temple, we're going to dress modestly, look at my sleeves, Miss Catherine needs to change her clothes too, we need to find a good tailor, and add some tobacco by the way, I have a hunch that our journey has just begun!"
......
When Rogge and Catherine, dressed in brand new clothes, reappeared on the silvery sand with Tali and Lilith, they were already completely new.
Rogge, who wrapped himself in a dark blue cloak, changed into a new dark blue hat, like a ghostly shadow in the night, while Catherine, who walked side by side with him, was dressed in silver, with a waist-length golden ponytail hanging from her back, and her brisk steps were like silver elves on the silver beach.
"I saw what you seemed to have left on the tailor's table, is it a silver coin?" asked Rogge in a whisper as Catherine whispered on the way to the sea.
Rogge gave her an approving look and said, "Very good observation, that's true." β
"You seem to be rich?" said Catherine, looking at Rogge curiously.
"No, no, no, I'm poor, but thankfully the kind village chief 'does good deeds and helps others'βthough Mr. Knight will definitely think that this time he can fill in another charge for me!"
Rogge winked at Catherine playfully, and the girl suddenly realized, but after thinking about it, she couldn't remember when Rogge took the sheep by the hand, and could only smile admiringly.
"It's going to be dawn, usually we merfolk can't be exposed to the sun for a long time, if we're ready, let's get ready to go to the bottom of the sea!"
When the group reached the beach, Tali looked back inquiringly at Rog and Catherine, and Lilith on Rog's hat, and Rogge bowed her head in agreement to see her turn to face the rough sea.
When the two pearls on the mermaid staff shot two white rays into the sea, and a portal with churning white spray rose on the rough sea, Tali made a "please" gesture to everyone, and Rog stepped forward to step into the portal first.
With the sound of the surging tides in their ears, the four figures appeared at the bottom of the sea, except for Tali, who turned into the form of a mermaid, Roger and Catherine's bodies were wrapped in a layer of transparent blisters, isolating the sea water from them, making them breathe and speak as if they were on land.
Rog tried to move forward, but found that his movements were normal and his body was not wet by the sea, he looked up and saw that the surrounding seabed was covered with beautiful corals, hermit crabs carrying huge anemones crawling quietly not far away, and several jellyfish floating leisurely past him, giving people a sense of peace and tranquility.
Guided by Tali, they made their way along the seashell-paved path, encountering inquiries from several low-ranking merfolk warriors along the way, but they passed smoothly under Tali's leadership, and soon came to the gate of the merfolk temple.
It is an ancient and solemn underwater temple, with six towering pillars towering in front of the main door of the temple, a long staircase leading down from the gate, above which is carved a statue of the god of the sea holding a trident, and on the stone door of the temple is carved two mermaid women holding harps opposite each other.
In front of the temple gate, there stood five high-ranking mermaid priests, and as soon as they saw Tali's figure, they swung their tails and swam forward, greeting them in a way that was unique to the merfolk.
"Guardian, you're back, have you found anything?" asked a mermaid woman covered in blue patterns, looking at the two men and a bird standing behind Tali suspiciously.
"We did find some clues, but we didn't find the whereabouts of the Hallows, so I brought back a few friends to help us find clues about the Hallows. Tali turned around and introduced Rog and the others to the five, and introduced the five Guardians under her command to Rog and the others.
"Serena, open the doors of the temple, and I'm going to go in with Mr. Rogge to check on the scene of the crime. Tali said back to the Jacaranded Merfolk.
Selina was stunned for a moment when she heard this, and quickly shook her head and reminded Tali: "Guardian, have you forgotten, the elders have a clear rule that foreigners are not allowed to enter the temple!"
"There's nothing more important now than recovering the Hallows!" replied Tully in a deep voice.
Seeing that the guardian's face changed, Serena didn't dare to say any more, so she hurriedly turned around and led people to open the door, and the five of them opened the door of the main hall, and Tali ordered them to guard the door, and she took Rogge and the others into the temple.
Walking through the halls and stone rooms of the temple, Rogge saw that there were various statues of the elders of the mermaid tribe, as well as intricately carved murals of the sea god, and the road was heavily guarded, and there were mermaid soldiers patrolling everywhere.
Finally, the four of them stopped in front of the door of a small stone room, and Tali tapped on the stone door with her staff, and the door opened automatically, and Rogge saw a stone platform appear in the center of the small square stone room, with a huge shell on it, which was now open and empty.
"This is the scene where the artifact was stolen, nothing has changed, please see if you can find anything. Tali pointed inside the room and looked back at Rogge.
Rogge bowed slightly, stepped into the stone room, and asked as he observed the situation in the stone room, "Do you mind if I order a cigar here?"
"No, please. Tali agreed.
Rogge then lit a cigar, took a puff, and asked, "Isn't there anyone guarding this place like it is today?"
"No, the five Guardians you met just now will work regular shifts here, two guarding the temple gates, two guarding the sacristy doors, and one patrolling the temple with guardian beasts. β
"Guardian Beast?" Rogge looked back at Tali curiously, and the mermaid guardian nodded, "That's right, each of the five of them has a guardian beast, Ariel is a jellyfish, Afra is an electric ray, Alice is a squid, Charlotte is a hammerhead shark, and Serena is a sea cucumber." β
"Sea cucumber?" Rogge was stunned for a moment, looked at Tali with an expression of disbelief and asked, "It's the first time I've heard that sea cucumbers can also be used as guardian beasts, isn't that thing only something to eat?"
"It is true that ordinary sea cucumbers cannot fight against foreign enemies, but Serena has a giant sea cucumber, about two meters long, which can directly swallow enemies, and is a very powerful guardian beast. β
"If that's the case, then it's easy for it to swallow the Hallows?" Rog laughed meaningfully as he heard Tully's explanation.
Tali's face changed suddenly when she heard this, and she asked in surprise, "Do you mean, Serena is the inner ghost?"
