Chapter 3: The Mermaid's Trap

Leaving the lighthouse, Rogge and Catherine walked through the fishing village to the wide white sand beach at night, where the raging tide of the Darcy Sea crashed violently against the beach, making a shocking roaring tide, and the sea breeze diffused a strong salty smell, and a strange murmur could be faintly heard in the wind.

"Come here, don't make a sound!" said Rogra, following Catherine to a fishing boat that was being held upside down and crouched down, using it to hide his tracks. The two had just hid behind the fishing boat when a huge wave six or seven meters high swooped down towards the silent beach with the sound of the angry tide.

The two men hiding behind the boat saw a mysterious figure appear at the top of the huge wave, standing firmly at the head of the towering tide, with the roaring tide descending on the beach, a giant shark carried the man to the beach, and then returned to the sea with the rushing waves at her wave.

Rogge looked at the woman who had landed from afar, holding a staff more than a man tall, dressed in a long silver gauze dress inlaid with pearls and shells, her long sea-blue hair and light skirt fluttering in the sea breeze, and her graceful figure loomed in the light of the sheer tulle.

"She doesn't look like a monster, are you sure she's what the villagers call a banshee?" asked Rog as the little owl standing on Rog's shoulder, tilting her little furry head and staring at the beautiful woman with her big shining eyes.

"I think it must be her, don't be fooled by her beauty, the proverb says that man-eating foxes have a pretty face!" Rogge said to the two of them, quietly staring at the mysterious woman in the distance, and saw her look around vigilantly as she walked southwest along the beach.

"She's leaving, let's go with her, see where she's going!" Rogge beckoned to the two of them, and the cat stepped out of the back of the fishing boat, far behind the woman, along the coastline toward the cliffs on the southwest side.

The mysterious woman didn't seem to notice the tailgators, walked briskly to the edge of the cliff, turned a boulder and disappeared from the sight of the three, Rog hurried to the edge of the rock, peeked out from behind the rock, and found the woman walking into a deep cave under the cliff.

"There are no evil monsters in the cave. Rogge took the silver sword from behind his back, glanced at the dull blade, and whispered.

"How do you know?" asked Catherine curiously.

"This sword of mine is made of werewolf claws, and the exterior is plated with a layer of sterling silver, which is not only lethal to vampires, but can also sense the evil aura emitted by monsters, and if there is an evil monster in the cave, it will emit a dazzling light to alert its master. ”

Rogge glanced at the mysterious hole in the dark night, lowered his head and lit a cigar, and told Catherine: "Listen, this is your first time in the operation, you must follow me, I don't want your first battle to be the last!"

"I understand!" Catherine nodded solemnly, took out the silver handcuff that had been loaded with bullets from her waist, checked the bullet pouch on her waist, and crept behind Rogge with the nervousness of the first trial, tiptoeing in the direction of the cave.

Rog stopped at the entrance of the cave, leaned his back against the stone wall and looked in, and saw that the cave was silent, so he stepped into the cave, followed by Catherine.

The two had just stepped into the cave, and a transparent film of water suddenly appeared at the entrance of the cave behind them, quickly sealing the cave, Lilith screamed, startling Catherine on the side, and before she could shout, a big hand covered her mouth.

"Be quiet, ladies, now is not the time to raise your voice!" Rog calmly stopped Catherine with his gaze, then glared reproachfully at the little owl on his shoulder, beckoned to Catherine and continued to walk deeper into the cave.

The further she went, the darker it became, Catherine felt like she had completely lost sight, and if it weren't for the light of the cigar fire, she felt like she would have been lost in the darkness.

Unlike Catherine, Rogge, who walked in front, seemed to be completely unaffected by the darkness, and without the slightest hesitation or temptation, he strode forward as if he were walking in his own home, and soon entered the depths of the cave.

After turning a corner, the cave suddenly became very narrow enough for one person to pass, and Rog took the lead in turning, and Catherine, who was following behind, had not yet moved, when suddenly a strange cry came from inside.

A crisp crash followed, and a nervous Catherine pressed against the wall, peering inside, but it was so dark that she couldn't see anything.

Caught off guard, something was suddenly thrown out of the cave, Catherine was startled, and hurriedly retreated, and a figure flew out.

The girl subconsciously raised the silver handcuff to defend herself, but her hand was pushed to the side first, and Rogge's voice came: "It's me, it's not the time to smash my own head." ”

"What's wrong?" asked Catherine, shocked.

"It's a merfolk. Rog glanced down at the ground, where the half-human-tall inferior merfolk soldier he had just thrown out of the hole was lying at his feet, out of breath, and a short trident had fallen to the ground around the corner.

"Is that the woman's subordinate?"

"I think so, come on, follow me, we need to see what these merfolk are hiding here for. Rog turned and walked into the cave again, and Catherine hurriedly stepped over the fish demon's corpse and followed.

didn't take a few steps, Rogge suddenly swung his sword to stop, only to hear a soft sound of "ding", a harpoon arrow was swung away by the silver sword in Rogge's hand and fell at his feet, but the second arrow flew head-on again, Rogge calmly raised his sword to block, and the arrow hit the surface of the silver sword, stirring up a spark.

Rog put down the silver sword in his hand, grabbed one of Catherine's hands backwards with his left hand, aimed at the dark cavern in front of him, and held Catherine's soft fingers to pull the trigger.

There was a "bang", a piercing sound echoed through the cavern, accompanied by the crash of the third arrow being shot down, and a scream followed, and something fell to the ground.

"Good marksmanship, miss!" Rogge let go of Catherine's hand, flicked the ash of his cigar lightly, and strode deeper into the cavern.

After walking a few steps, Rogge suddenly saw the merfolk soldier whose head had been shattered by a silver bullet, which made him even more suspicious, he knew that the merfolk in the Icewind Strait rarely appeared on the mainland, and the last time they appeared was back in the war between the human alliance and the vampire army a century ago.

After all these years, why would these guys sneakily log into human land?

"What is there here, worthy of so many soldiers from the merfolk to guard it, and who is that mysterious woman?" I seem to smell a hint of conspiracy......" Rogge muttered suspiciously as he gazed at the mermaid corpse at his feet.

Crossing the corpse of the inferior mermaid shooter, Rog continued to walk inward, and soon a circular cave appeared in front of him, and when Rog walked to the entrance of the cave, two mermaid soldiers suddenly flashed out of the cave, and the trident in his hand shone in the cold light, stabbing straight into Rog's chest.

Rog swung his sword against the two tridents, kicked a merfolk soldier out with a flying kick, grabbed the trident he dropped with his left hand and stabbed his companion to death, then pulled out the trident and threw it at the merfolk soldier who was kicked away by himself, and the trident flashed cold, pinning the merfolk soldier to the wall of the cave.

"You're finally showing up, and I'm still wondering when you'll show up again, and this time you don't want to get out of here!"

Hearing the shouts, Rogge threw away the trident in his hand and looked up at the young woman in tulle, standing in front of the wall opposite Rog with a long-handled staff, the head of which was carved with a sinuous and coiled mermaid, and the mermaid's eyes sparkling in the darkness with pearls.

"Insidious thieves, hand over what you have stolen, and don't force me to do it!" the mysterious woman shouted as she stared at Rogge with her sea-blue eyes as she pointed her staff at him with a majestic expression.
