Chapter 566: Don't Offend Your Girlfriends
Rogge looked meaningfully in the direction of the slave's departure, shook his head, and said, "It's hard to say yet, he is full of doubts about what I said, and we can't easily judge without a real investigation, he may mislead our thinking." Pen, fun, pavilion www. biqugeγ infoβ
He glanced up at the sun shining above him and said, "There is still time before dark, we had better go back to the mercenary camp, I have something to ask Ossis." β
He and Catherine were about to leave the mine with Lilith and Monica, but as soon as they walked to the edge of the mine, they encountered Carmon coming angrily with a group of orc heads, Rog and Catherine exchanged glances, and stopped to look at the scratched and dark face of the orc overseer.
"The little villain is still so heavy. Rog raised an eyebrow at Catherine and whispered.
"You, did you bring that little bastard just now?" Carmon stopped in front of Rogge, pointed at Rogge's nose and shouted angrily, "Where is she hiding, hand her over to me!"
"Hey, Lord Overseer, I heard about what happened just now, the child is not sensible, don't worry about her!" Rog smiled and patted the back of Carmon's hand.
"Don't worry about children?" Carmon glared, took the leather whip from his belt and pointed it at Rogge, and shouted, "Okay, then I'll take care of you!"
Rog stood silently, watching the whip whistling through the air and whistling towards him, but suddenly stood still in mid-air, he stared at the whip that stopped in mid-air with his eyebrows slanted in pretending to be surprised, and cast a curious gaze on Carmon's stunned face.
"Are you performing magic tricks for me?" Roger smiled and shrugged his shoulders and said, "It's a pity that I'm very busy now, and you know that your boss has set a time limit for me, so I'm going to see him now, so why don't I wait another day and enjoy your magic with Catherine!"
After saying that, he smiled and patted Carmon on the shoulder, and walked past him with Catherine, Carmon looked back at their departing backs with a confused face, stared at his whip stopped in mid-air for a long time, and suddenly turned back and slapped him in the face with a "snap".
Listening to the wailing of Carmon not far behind him, Rogge smiled meaningfully at Catherine beside him: "I remember a philosopher who said well, if you want to pursue a girl, then don't offend her best friend. β
Catherine stole a glance at the little owl on Rogge's shoulder, Lilith shook her little head triumphantly, looking like she was about to whistle, Catherine listened to Carmon's angry voice from the direction of the mine behind her, and couldn't help but hide her mouth and snicker.
The four of them quickly returned to the mercenary camp, and when they entered the stone house of Ossis, the leader of the orc mercenaries, Ossis, put his feet on the table, leaned back against the back of the wooden chair, looked at Rogge with contempt and said, "Hey, human, how's it going, has the matter been clarified?
"We still have time," said Rogge, glancing at the sunny door behind him, "It's still early, isn't it?" I have some questions for you, and I'm sure you can give me satisfactory answers. β
"Then stop talking nonsense, my patience is limited. Ossis said with an impatient glance at him.
"On the day of the crime, when you returned to your room and found that your money bag was missing, did you find any footprints on the floor?" asked Rogge, leaning forward with one hand on the table across his desk.
"Footprints?" Ossis rolled his eyes at him and said, "Who would pay attention to that kind of thing?"
"Remember," said Rogge, pointing to the ground at his feet, "the floor of this room is paved with gray slate, and if there are any special marks left on the floor, they should be visible at a glance, and there is no need to look hard. β
"If that's the case," said Ossis, taking his feet off the table, putting on his fur boots, and stomping on the door, "there were some marks on the ground, probably blood on the feet of the damned slave." β
"Are you sure it's Hogg's foot?" Rogge asked, staring at him with concern.
"Nonsense, who else but his rotten feet would leave a trail of blood here?" asked Ossis as he gazed hostilely at him.
"Are there any other traces left?" asked Rogge, tapping the fingers of the hand on the table.
"No, what do you want, just say it as soon as possible, don't take my word here!" Ossis said impatiently, putting his feet back on the table.
"Thank you, and one more question, what does the missing diamond bag look like, please describe it to me in detail. Rogge asked patiently and politely straightening up.
"It's a most ordinary animal skin bag, tied with a brown rope, it was the last batch sent to me that day, I have already put away all the previous deliveries, only that bag I have not yet examined. Ossis replied, shaking his feet.
"Did you know that Hogg the Slave was coming here to see you?" asked Rogge, surveying the room.
"I knew he was coming, but I didn't expect him to be bold enough to come in on his own!" Ossis said, slamming his huge fist on the table.
"But he said he came in when he heard the sound of you letting him in. Rogge stared at Ossis with deep meaning, and the leader of the orc mercenaries raised his head and glared, and spat on the ground and shouted: "That bastard is tired of life, or has he seen a ghost?
"I agree with that," said Rogge, with a sly smile, "judging by such a lie, Hogg is likely to be the biggest suspect, and I wonder if you have sent someone to search his quarters? A slave stole a bag of diamonds, and there are only a handful of places he can hide." β
"I haven't done that yet," said Ossian, with a smile on his face when he heard Rogge say this, pointed his finger at him and Catherine, "I had just interrogated him when you came, and the rest was in your hands, and if you wanted to search it, I would let Enus take you to their pig's coop." β
"If you're not busy, I think it's better for us to go together, maybe we can get the stolen money and make the final judgment in front of you. Rog smiled at Ossis in a friendly manner and held out his hand.
Ossis stared at him for a moment, then put down his feet on the table and stood up and said, "Okay, I'll go with you, you wait for me outside the door, and I'll be right there!"
Rog and Catherine turned and walked out of the stone house, and Ossis called Enus in, where they lingered for a while, and when Ossis came out, he had changed into a gold-studded leather armor and a black cloak draped behind his back to shield him from the scorching sun.
He waved to Enus and told him to go about his business, and then left the mercenary camp with several mercenaries and Rogge and Catherine, and came to the slave camp near the mine, walking from the rows of dilapidated stone houses to the residence of Hogg and the others.
Standing in the doorway, Rogge smelled a strong stench coming from the room, and he looked inside, and saw that it was empty, and there were a dozen dirty and worn rags on the ground in the small space, which was obviously the bedding of the slaves.
He walked into the house and looked around at the empty room, and stepped forward to lift the rags on the ground and inspect them one by one, Catherine stood in the doorway with her hands over her nose and watched his every move with concern, while Ossis stood bored in the distance to avoid the stench coming from the room.
Suddenly, Rogge's hand stopped, he picked up something from under a rag, looked down at it, sniffed it again, raised his head and thought for a moment, turned around and shouted outside, "I found it!"
He strode past Catherine, shook the gray animal skin bag in his hand in front of her, and then strode towards Ossis, Catherine couldn't help but "chuckle" when she saw the bag, she felt sorry for the slaves from the bottom of her heart, and wanted to prove that they had not done it, but the appearance of the bag shattered her hopes.
"Is this the bag?" Rogge handed the bag into Ossis' hand, and the mercenary leader took the bag and looked back and forth, nodding, "That's it, but what about the diamonds inside?"
"I didn't find any diamonds, just an empty bag. Rogge said with a shrug.
"Damn it!" Ossis turned back and shouted at the mercenaries who followed, "Go, bring that bastard Hogg here!"
Several mercenaries quickly dragged Hogg to Ossian, and the orc slaves fell to their knees tremblingly, only to see Ossis throw the animal skin bag on his head and shout: "This was found under your broken bedding, where did the diamond go? Give it to me, or I will throw you into the desert to dry your flesh!"
"My lord, I didn't steal diamonds, it really wasn't me!" Hogg begged as he knelt on the ground.
"You didn't steal it, you didn't steal it, how could this bag end up under your futon?" Ossis stepped forward and kicked Hogg to the ground, kicked him a few times, and then stepped on his head and scolded.
"Don't think that I can't take you if you hide the diamond, I can kill you right now, and then let the pigs who work with you pay me tenfold!"
"My lord, I was wronged, and I don't know how this bag ended up with me, I'm telling the truth!" Hogg curled up on the ground and cried out.
"If you don't see the coffin, you don't cry. Ossis sneered, kicked Hogg again, and then said to the mercenaries, "Drag him out into the sun, don't give him water or food, don't let anyone come near him, and all his contemporaries must make up fifty times the number of diamonds lost in order to be free!"
The mercenaries stepped forward and were about to drag Hogg away, when Rogge suddenly stopped them and said, "Wait a minute!" He walked up to Hogg and crouched down, stared into Hogg's eyes with a serious expression, and whispered, "Do you want to live?" β
