Chapter Twenty-Eight: To Laquez
A few days later, Evan and Delores bid farewell to Elrus with a dozen soldiers and prepared to leave for the fiefdom of Raquis.
Before leaving, Elrus loaded a large amount of meat and specialties that had been prepared in advance into the carriage and asked Evan and Delores to take them to Laquis.
Faced with a cart full of things, Aven wanted to say that he would bring less, but Aerus waved his hand and didn't give Aven a chance.
Evan and Delores discussed that it was better to give something to the Earl of Morlor as they were passing through London. Not only can we reduce food waste, but we can also strengthen our relationship.
It just so happened that he was going back to London to recruit troops, and Deloris also wanted to go back, saying that he had something to do with the Earl of Morlor.
During his time in London, Aven was so focused on recruiting soldiers in the city, making time to go to blacksmiths, carpenters, and armor makers, and even to the shops he had bought.
Sure enough, with the fame of Deloris and Aven, there was no longer anyone in London who was not good-eyed to cause trouble. As for the armament of the new army, the progress was rather slow.
This gave Evan a deeper understanding of the power of knowledge, and many problems that seemed to him to be easy to solve, but now often took more time to study and discuss.
After thinking about it, Aven still found Count Morlor, hoping to move the craftsmen who made ordnance to Raquis, so that they could build in their own territory, and if there was a problem, he could solve it as soon as possible.
The Count of Morlor hesitated, but after being persuaded by Delores, he agreed to Aven's request. Although it was a little painful, the Count of Morol still chose to let him go.
He had been to several places to check, and when he saw the drawings left by Aven, Count Morlore was even a little suspicious of his own eyes.
Some patterns are familiar but so unfamiliar, and some things have never been heard of or seen. Count Morlor's heart was full of excitement, maybe this is the person who has been blessed by God, right?
But the thought that His Majesty would come to Middlesex afterwards made the Earl of Morlore a little worried.
He was convinced that with Aiwen's ability, he would definitely achieve great things in the future, but people are selfish and want the best in themselves. Otherwise, Count Morol would not have married Elrus because of this, after all, the difference between the identities of the two sides is too great.
When they heard that they were going to move to Láquez, the craftsmen were reluctant at first, the city of London had everything, and they had a lot of money to make, so why should they go to a small place like Láquez.
In the end, Aven still visited the family one by one, and tried hard to ask, but the craftsmen reluctantly agreed, and followed Aven to Laquis.
After Deloris and Count Morlor had discussed the matter, they prepared to leave with Aven. The Earl of Morlor was reluctant to let his daughter stay in the City of London and wait until she was married before going to Laquis, but Deloris was resolute and he had to agree.
When leaving, the Count of Morol repeatedly told Evan to take care of Deloris in Laques and not let her be wronged.
Evan naturally agreed, in fact, he didn't need to be reminded by Count Morlor, he would also be cautious. To put it nicely, he and Delores are almost husband and wife now, both prosperous and lossless.
To be realistic, he is now just starting to become an aristocratic and urgently needs a strong person to support him, and the Morlore family, who are the Earls of Middlesex, are the best choice.
"Aven, I want to ask you something." Deloris looked at Evan's face, and seeing that the latter did not show any unusual expression, she continued.
"Last time at your house. Alice didn't mean she was going to marry the son of Baron Parles. Do you have any ideas?"
Evan gently rubbed the mane of the war horse and replied calmly, "Alice's marriage was contracted by Uncle Ebru, and I don't have any ideas. Why did Delores bring this up?"
Deloris watched quietly, there was nothing unusual on Evan's face, and there was still a doting look in his eyes, as if he was talking about someone who had nothing to do with him.
"Hmph, I thought you would say something, but I didn't expect to say a word, as if Alice wasn't your sister. Forget it, when I get married, I'll take care of myself." Delores was tentatively angry.
There was a slight pain in his forehead. Deloris covered her head and glared at Evan beside her, looking like she would pounce at any moment.
"Can these two things be compared together?" Evan withdrew his hand angrily, not looking at Delores' fierce look.
"Is Deloris trying to ask, why don't I do something about it and just watch Alice marry the enemy's son?"
Evan said this, holding the reins of the horse, clenching his fists tightly after hearing Alice say the news. He never let go, even if he tried to ignore it, he never managed to treat it calmly.
"Alice and I have had a good relationship since I was a child, but marriage is not something we can decide. Delores, you should also be aware. We, the descendants of the nobility, have accepted the protection and resources of the family since we were young, and naturally we have to pay the corresponding price. The same goes for Alice. Unless you cut off the relationship with the family, you can only accept it. I can't change something like that."
Deloris was silent for a moment, how could she not understand this, when she told her father about it, the Count of Morol also said that he had no way to stop it.
"Baron Parles, a man who disobeys the yin and the yang, will do whatever it takes to achieve the end. His son spent all day drinking, robbing people's daughters, coveting beauty, and deceiving many people. These things are known throughout the territory, and many people say that he is a master seducer."
Deloris enumerated the crimes of Baron Parles' family in one breath.
"The object of marriage is never considered virtue, Delores. Marriage is only a matter of whether the family can benefit sufficiently from the marriage." Aven's on-the-spot revelation.
Deloris lowered her head in frustration, she only felt a little clogging in her throat. This feeling of knowing that there is a mistake, but being powerless to change it, can only watch the mistake happen, makes her feel extremely uncomfortable.
Thinking of the conversation with Baron Ellus made her feel even more guilty.
"Don't think about what you have and don't. What we can do now is to make ourselves stronger, and when our strength reaches a certain level, many problems will be solved. Now we are struggling with this, and the root cause is that our fists are not hard enough. Believe me, Delores, there's hope for this."
A gleam erupted in Aiwen's eyes, all of this will be returned, definitely!
"My lord, miss, there's Larquis ahead." In the distance, a servant rode a war horse and hurriedly came to report.
When Evan heard this, he immediately glanced around. There are wheat fields everywhere, and many people are working in the fields, and there is an atmosphere of harmony and tranquility everywhere. In front of many people's homes, women are weaving and mending broken fishing nets.
"It's so peaceful here, the men farm and hunt and fish, and the women weave and take care of the house." Ai Wen said with some emotion.
"Of course. It's a place that my father and I have worked hard to get here." Deloris looked up proudly, with a smug look.
"Standing on the shoulders of giants, I hope I can make this the center of gravity for all of Middlesex, and even for the entire kingdom." Evan looked at the scene in front of him and muttered to himself.
When the group arrived at the castle of Laquis, they saw a large number of people gathered around the door, whispering something to each other. Seeing Evan and the others, one of the old men hurriedly stepped forward, "Welcome Lord Elvan, Miss Delores."
Deloris walked up to Evan and introduced him to the people in front of him, "Evan these are the officials left behind in the realm, and they are also the people my father trusts the most. This is the great butler Anroes, who was also my teacher when I was a child. He taught me a lot and was both my teacher and my best friend."
"Lord Aven, everything is ready below. You can start taking over the territory tomorrow. If you want, we will continue to stay and help you."
Evan looked at the old man, who had a calm expression, his eyes sincere and not mixed with any other emotion. Ai Wen could see from his expression that the old man had a deep attachment and love for the land under his feet.
"Everybody stays first. I'm new to the territory, and I'm not familiar with the affairs of the territory, so I'm more relaxed with you here. As for the future, if you want to leave, you can leave, and if you want to stay, you will stay here." Evan said with a smile.
Deloris and Anroes were a little surprised, knowing that the people here, although most of them were people with some ability, they were all people from Count Morlor.
Ordinary nobles would just send them away and rearrange the people they trusted, all of whom were left behind like Ai Wen, who had never heard of them before.
"Yes, then we'll stay in the territory first. If you have anything to do, just tell us about it. By the way, my lord, the banquet is ready, please move."
Evan nodded, instructed Anlos to set up the craftsmen he had brought with him, and took Deloris into the castle first.
"By the way, Anros, please send a few capable people tomorrow to set out with me. I'm going to go through the territory and see what is going on."
"Obey, ...... Your Excellency"
