Chapter 224: Stealing Wrong? Thief next door?
Although it is said that the Cultural Relics Bureau has approved the rescue excavation of the stolen Han Dynasty tomb in Dundun Mountain.
However, archaeologists don't just dig up.
Before the official excavation, a complete archaeological exploration must be done.
On April 16, the day after the archaeological team from the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences arrived in Nanchang.
A comprehensive and systematic archaeological survey of the five square kilometres surrounding the stolen tombs has begun.
More than 50 archaeologists from the three archaeological institutes, with Luoyang shovels and modern scientific and technological archaeological equipment, began field investigation work near Dundun Mountain.
The so-called fieldwork is actually to make holes everywhere.
Luoyang shovels, shovel by shovel, in a radius of five kilometers, continue to dig at least 15 meters deep to explore the situation near the stolen tombs.
This is something that a tomb robber would never do.
Tomb robbers only care about whether there are treasures in the main tomb, and will not care about how large the tomb is, why it is here, whether there are other important ruins around, and whether they want to protect it in a targeted manner.
These are things that only archaeologists would consider.
It turns out that doing field exploration is a very meaningful thing.
With the gradual deepening of the exploration work, the three archaeological teams gradually figured out the situation of the geological layers of the Han Dynasty in the range of Dundun Mountain.
Not only the cemetery of this tomb was discovered, but also a series of important relics of the Marquis of Haihuang with the ruins of the Purple City, the cemetery of the Marquis of Haihuang in the past dynasties, and the cemetery of nobles and commoners were found in Wei.
The ruins of the Purple City in the Han Dynasty were the capital of the Marquis of Haidu.
After discovering the walls of the ruins of the Purple City, two other cemeteries with cemeteries were soon discovered around the city, within a radius of five kilometers.
and just north of the stolen cemetery, an ancestral hill was found.
To the east of the ancestral hall is a cemetery for commoners and nobles.
As a result, the archaeological team found out the settlement site of the Marquis of Haihuang, which was composed of the capital of the Marquis of Haiding, the cemetery area, the nobles and the general burial area, and the entire site covered an area of 5 square kilometers.
In the archaeological history of the Han Dynasty in Chinese archaeology, it is the first time that such a complete group of ruins has been found in the capital, cemetery area, aristocracy and general burial area!
This group of ruins is the largest, best-preserved, and richest Han Dynasty marquis settlement site found in China!
It is an important national historical and cultural heritage!
It is the most unique site for studying the history of the Western Han Dynasty!
The discovery of this site alone is enough to be called one of the great discoveries of Chinese archaeology in a century!
Through this site, Chinese archaeologists can have a clear and in-depth understanding of the historical, social, humanistic, tombs and other important cultural heritage of the Western Han Dynasty!
You don't need to have any gold or silver artifacts!
This group of ruins alone is enough for Chinese archaeologists to study for more than ten years!
On the contrary, the stolen gold and silver objects are less important.
The gold and silver cultural relics and burial goods of the Han Dynasty, and even the golden jade clothes, have been unearthed in the past, and these things are not very rare.
But such a cultural site of the Han Dynasty is really rare.
After all, after two thousand years of vicissitudes, most of the old cities and ruins of the Han Dynasty have disappeared early due to wars or human development.
It is difficult to find in the soil layer.
Because many of the ancient city walls that still exist today are stacked on top of the city walls of previous dynasties.
For example, the old city wall of Zhengzhou is stacked with the city wall of the Ming Dynasty, the city wall of the Tang and Song dynasties, the city wall of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and the city wall of the Qin and Han dynasties.
It is impossible to discover the cultural layer underneath.
Unless all the ancient cities above are demolished!
But the ruins of this Purple City are different, this is a ruins that have been buried deep in the ground since the Han Dynasty and have not been superimposed on the city walls.
As long as the soil is excavated, the appearance of the capital of the Hou Kingdom in the Western Han Dynasty will be presented in front of modern people without resistance.
Of course, in addition to the ruins of Zijin City, the most important stolen cemetery is also a key exploration area.
The results of the exploration show that the stolen cemetery covers an area of about 40,000 square meters, with a trapezoidal plan and a wall of 868 meters.
In addition, the tomb is centered on the tomb of the Hou, and there are various ground building foundations such as ancestral halls, dormitories, halls, side rooms, cemetery walls, roads and drainage systems.
The most important thing is that there is not only one tomb in the cemetery.
In addition to the main tomb M1, there are eight tombs from M2 to M9.
Among them, tomb M2, presumably the tomb of Mrs. Hou, is also the tomb that was stolen!
That's right!
After half a year of exploration, a very pleasant surprise news was confirmed.
The stolen tomb is not the main tomb of this cemetery!
At first, everyone thought that this tomb was the tomb of the Marquis of Haiding, after all, the depth was fifteen meters, and the location of the robbery hole was on a large sealed soil.
fo
However, when the archaeologists conducted a detailed exploration of the entire Dundun Mountain area, they found that there was a sealed soil on the right side of this stolen tomb!
These two towering mounds of earth were overgrown with weeds and thorns.
If you look at it from a distance, it looks like two naturally formed hills.
And, from the outside, the mound on the left is larger than the one on the right.
Because the knowledge level of the tomb robbers was somewhat lacking, judging by the appearance alone, the left sealed soil was larger, so they thought that the left sealed soil was the main tomb, so they stole the main burial chamber on the left.
However, Chen Han, who is doing archaeology, knows it very well.
The Han Dynasty was honored by the right!
The tomb of the Nanyue King excavated before has just verified this matter!
Moreover, when the archaeologists have cleared all the weeds and bushes covering the two enclosures, they can also find that the enclosure on the right is actually larger than the one on the left!
It's only because the weeds and bushes on the left side of the enclosure are more dense that the left side is bigger.
In other words, the tomb on the right is actually the main tomb of this cemetery, that is, tomb M1!
The stolen tomb on the left is actually M2, and based on the location of the two tombs, it is clear that this is the tomb of a husband and wife.
The tomb on the left is the tomb of the Marquis of Haiding, and the tomb on the right is the tomb of the Marquis of Haiding!
Because this group of tomb robbers found the wrong main tomb, the tomb of the Marquis of Hailun survived and was not stolen!
However, the main burial chamber of the tomb of the Marquis of Haiyang was stolen by this group of tomb robbers.
This also explains why the archaeologists who went down did not see the bamboo slips in the main burial chamber.
As the lady of the Marquis of Haiding, although it is said that there was no saying that a woman is virtuous if she is not talented in the Han Dynasty, there is a high probability that the bamboo slips that record knowledge will not appear in a large number in the tomb of a lady.
There may only be a few scattered wooden slips that record the list of funerary goods, but it is estimated that they were also taken away by the tomb robbers.
Like the previous excavations of the Han Dynasty tombs, the appearance of bamboo slips will not appear in the tomb of the lady!
It was also a relief for all the archaeological staff.
Fortunately, although the tomb of the lady has been stolen, the more important tomb of the Marquis of Hailun has not been stolen, which can be regarded as a blessing in misfortune!
In addition to these two tombs, there are seven tombs in the cemetery, but the specifications of these seven tombs cannot be compared with those of liehous.
It is most likely to be an attached tomb, that is, the high-ranking nobles of the Haiduan Marquis who accompanied the burial.
It was normal for nobles to bury their own lords after their deaths, which was a very normal thing in the Han Dynasty.
Especially if there are cemetery specifications, whether it is the emperor's imperial tomb or the prince's royal tomb, there are a bunch of subordinates in the cemetery.
And this kind of burial was considered a kind of honor in the Han Dynasty.
If the courtiers of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty can be buried in Maoling after death, it will be a supreme glory!
The vassals of the Marquis of Haidu, of course, are also the same.
