Chapter Seventy-Eight: I See Myself in Your Eyes
Belarus, a somewhat unique member of the CIS, is known as the North Korea of Europe.
Andrey was very curious about it. Andrei's perception of socialism seems to have survived in the time of Karl Marx.
In the same way that I introduced him to Lily Marlene, I introduced him to the Internationale. He downloaded the German, French, English and Russian versions of Let's listen.
To be honest, this is the first time I've listened to the original French version of the Internationale. It feels like the tune is smoother, and the German version, like their character, feels very impassioned. My favorite and familiar version is the Russian version, which is closer to our interpretation of the Internationale, and the tune is more soothing and deeper.
Unlike the hustle and bustle of Moscow, Minsk, the capital of Belarus, is unusually quiet and serene.
Minsk is an ancient city, however, in World War II, the famous Battle of Minsk almost completely destroyed the city. All we can see now is the reconstruction of the Belarusian people after the war.
Belarus is the country with the largest number of lakes in Europe and is known as the "Lungs of Europe". André was particularly fascinated by the beauty of the lake and the mountains. We planned to go on a tour of the lake.
Minsk's scenic spots, like their cities, are rarely touristy. Andrei said that boating is required to swim on the lake. I still have some hesitation about the last boating encounter. Andrei smiled and said:
- "My dear, I'm not Li Bailing, even if there is no boat, I won't let you drown!" ”
The boats here are as traditional as their city, the oldest ones of hand paddle making.
I'm still a little skeptical about whether we're not going to be able to handle this, and Andre seems to be amused by my worries. I wore a plain white dress, and with some fear of soiling it, Andre took off his black half-sleeved shirt and let me sit on it.
The sparkling surface of the lake makes it easy to make people feel cheerful. I brought a big straw hat to shield me from the scorching afternoon sun. Andrey did not bring sunglasses and a hat today. He seemed to be enjoying the scorching sun.
Andrei in front of me was shirtless, with thick brown hair and a skin that was the typical wheat color of a white tanned. Watch my blue eyes darken in the sun. Andre stroked vigorously, the hairs on his skin gleamed golden in the sun, and his well-developed chest muscles and muscles on his upper arms throbbed in front of me.
Andrei is the most real person in this world, I can feel not only his vivid physical image, but also his inner real thoughts, emotions and even soul.
In his strong body is the most tenacious vitality of human beings.
I can feel his joys and sorrows, his conceit, his helplessness, his sincerity, his cunning, his naivety, his intelligence, his impulsiveness, his frustration, his jealousy, his sadness, his excitement, his indifference, his liking, his disgust...... All his mood changes and personality traits.
Looking at Andre smiling and shaking his double pulp, I gradually had all kinds of strange associations
I seemed to see André as one of the two lads who were tricked by the elves in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
It feels like he might be like a blinded German soldier in World War II, or an ordinary Red Army soldier in the Soviet Union. Or a grape harvester in an Italian vineyard, a waitress in a French café, or an intern doctor in a hospital in Germany. The assistant to the president of a multinational company, the civil servant of a certain organization that he met by chance in a restaurant, even looked like a bodyguard or a policeman......
Andrei kept rowing, and as we passed through a narrow lake shaded by trees, I saw Andrei swinging the paddle with one hand, trying to turn the boat around.
On some secluded lakes, my thoughts spanned millennia.
I still imagine Andrei, perhaps Patroclus in the Trojan War, who pretended to be Achilles and finally died; Perhaps it was the reckless Romeo who killed Juliet's cousin on the spur of the moment, who might have dropped his racket for losing in a tennis match or even got into an argument with a stranger just because of drag racing. Or maybe Andrei himself will hit people in Tula......
However, Andre also has an elegant and friendly side: he will help a helpless old lady carry a heavy load upstairs, he will also rescue a dangerous child who has fallen into the water, he will be polite and humble to his tutors and classmates, and he will also play the piano and drink coffee elegantly......
André was so vivid, three-dimensional, and transparent to me that I used his thoughts and emotions to interpret the characters I knew. However, no matter how much I imagine Andrei, I just don't associate him with some great man, a hero. Andrei was too real for me, too ordinary, too much of an ordinary person's demands and flaws.
For several hours, Andrei and I sat opposite each other, sometimes staring at my Andrei, sometimes at the vast lake and the blue sky in the distance. We barely said a word, and on a few occasions I looked at André and saw that he was looking at me, but his expression seemed thoughtful.
The sun is already less hot. I began to look for my way back. Andrei said as if he had read my thoughts:
- "Am I just paddling back?" ”
I suddenly remembered that Andrei asked him if he was tired after rowing almost non-stop. Andrei said that he was tired like this, so was it still him?
After coming ashore, Andrei said that he was not tired, but he did not say that he was not hungry.
I watched Andre munch on the burger, a completely different way he ate the steak, and I was thinking about the contradictions in my personality: apathy and fanaticism, sanity and impulsiveness, rigor and ease...... One thing I discovered was that I had not seen the weakness of Andrei among his many personalities. Andrei will compromise, will give up and even sacrifice, however, none of this seems to be due to his weakness. I think of Miao Miao's evaluation of Andrei, he is the most confident and courageous of our classmates!
After a few hours of sitting, we were finally able to move our legs and feet. As we walked leisurely along the lakeside, the sun was already setting in the west, and I felt the breeze from the lake in my bun with my hat in hand. Holding Andrei in one hand, he listened to him say:
- "Linna, do you know how I feel when I see you on the boat today? ”
I was really curious about this question, because when I saw Andre rowing today, I was almost full of emotion. I asked
- "What does it feel like?" ”
- "It's dreamy!" Andrei replied:
- "The wind blows your skirt and floats, and I feel you as light as a white butterfly, as if you are tired of flying, resting on my boat." I look at your face, and you seem to be thinking all the time, and your eyes are very misty. When you look at the water, I wonder if Ophelia is in the boat, just like you. Before, I had never imagined what Ophelia would look like! When you look at me, I think your expression is very similar to that of Venus in Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus", and your weak temperament is more like. I was thinking, Lina is really different from everyone else, you always give me the feeling that I can't eat fireworks in the world! ”
Listening to Andrei's words, I became more and more convinced of the difference in how Andrei and I felt about each other. I don't know why he is like this, but he always associates me with the different images he knows, either Ophelia from Hamlet, or the imaginary characters in the famous paintings, or even mermaids, elves...... And my feelings for him are just the opposite, always so real, I feel that I can even see the flow of Qi and blood in Andrei's body, the outburst of emotions, and even the struggle of the soul!
It was almost dusk, and there was no one rowing on the lake. The afterglow of the setting sun enveloped the lakeside, the sky and the surface of the lake were dyed red, the sparkling surface of the lake glowed golden, and the golden sun approached the lake to the west. Andrei and I stopped on the shore and watched the sunset. Suddenly, Andrei put his arm on my shoulders, looked at me excitedly, and said:
- "Lina, you look at me, let me look into your eyes!" Andrei looked me in the eye, then glanced at the lake a few times, then stared at me in the eye, and said emotionally:
- "Exactly what I felt that day, Lina, do you know what your eyes look like?" This is the moment, this is it! Look at the lake, so deep, so quiet. That's how your eyes make me."
I looked at the lake and then into Andrei's affectionate eyes and listened to him.
- "Your eyes are like the water of the lake at dusk and sunset, the brown water of the lake, unfathomable, the floating ripples are as agile as your flowing eye waves, glowing with golden light, strange and beautiful!" Now, I see myself in your eyes. ”
