Chapter 288: The Heart of Moscow
Since falling in love with Andre, I don't seem to have experienced the free, aimless, wandering shopping anymore.
I actually miss the feeling of shopping alone, it is so relaxed, so casual, so emotional, so unrestrained, so aimless, so unhurried, so unsightly, so capricious, so selfless......
I can stay anywhere I want, without the limitation of time, without the interference of others, in a daze at my favorite scenery, and let my mind travel through time and space at will!
By subway, I came to Red Square.
I am all too familiar with Red Square, and I have visited her more than once and have passed by and passed by it countless times. My former company headquarters was located near Red Square, and around the corner you can see the Kremlin's magnificent bell tower.
Nevertheless, Red Square will always be sacred and mysterious to me! She seems to have a fatal attraction to me forever!
Today is November 7th, so I naturally chose to go to Red Square.
On this special day, I'm going there to feel the beating of the heart of Moscow!
Red Square (Russian краснаяплощадь English (Red Square) is located in the center of Moscow, the capital of Russia, facing the Moscow River, is the oldest square in Moscow and is a place to witness major historical events. It is also a place where mass gatherings, large-scale celebrations and military parades are held on important Russian festivals, and it is a world-famous tourist attraction.
The original name of Red Square was "Torg", which means "bazaar". Its predecessor was the "out-of-town industrial and commercial district" opened up by Ivan III in the east of the city at the end of the 15th century.
In 1517, a great fire broke out in the square, which was once known as the "Fire Square".
In 1662 it was renamed "Red Square".
Red Square is far more internationally famous than Tiananmen Square, but its area is only about 1/5 of Tiananmen Square.
Red Square is 695 meters long from north to south, 130 meters wide from east to west, with a total area of 90,350 square meters.
In Russian, "red" means "beautiful", and "Red Square" means "beautiful square".
The major expansion of Red Square took place after 1812. At that time, Napoleon's army set fire to Moscow, and when the Muscovites rebuilt their homeland, they widened Red Square.
In the 20s of the 20th century, Red Square was merged with the adjacent Vasilevsky Square to form its current size. The square is paved with ochre-red ashlar blocks, shiny and shiny.
Since the 17th century, it has been the commercial center of Moscow and the site of important edicts and triumphal parades of the Tsarist government.
After the October Revolution, it became a place where important holidays were celebrated in the former Soviet Union.
To the south of Red Square is the Basilica of the Ascension, also known as St. Basil's Cathedral, which symbolizes the solemnity of the former Iron Curtain Capital.
It was built by order of Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the victory over the Kazan Tatar army in 1552.
When you see this church, you will definitely be captivated by its unique architectural style.
It is hailed as an outstanding representative of ancient Russian architectural art.
The church is a clever combination of 9 large and small churches, surrounded by 8 smaller churches surrounding the larger church in the middle, forming a group of exquisite architectural groups. The nine churches are domed towers, with the central main tower measuring 47 meters high. It is surrounded by 8 shallot-shaped vaults of different heights, shapes, colors, patterns, and decorations.
Ivan the Terrible, in order to prevent such a beautiful church from appearing elsewhere, ordered the architect to be blinded. (Poor architect!)
In front of the Cathedral of the Ascension of Vasily are statues of national heroes Minin and Pozharsky (the statues were inaugurated in 1818). In 1611-1612, they defeated the Polish invading army and liberated Moscow.
In front of the church is a circular platform, commonly known as the guillotine. It was the place where the tsar's edict was preached to the masses and read out. At the same time, it was also a place where capital punishment was carried out, and the execution was carried out offstage, where the execution warrant and the prisoner's guilt were read.
On the east side of Red Square is the State Department Store. It was built in 1893.
Designed by Pomeranzv, the building is divided into two floors and has a business area of nearly 80,000 square meters. Consists of 240 stores. The unique design and luxury decoration of the shopping mall are completely comparable to the most modern shopping malls in Europe and the United States. Today it has become one of the top 10 department stores in the world.
To the north of Red Square is the Historical Museum, with its red brick and white roof, which is also a landmark of Moscow. Built in 1873. It's a three-storey red brick building – it's home to 4.5 million exhibits.
On May 8, 1995, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the victory in World War II, a statue of Marshal Zhukov, a hero of World War II, was erected on the north side of Red Square.
