Chapter 474: The Targaryen Family

Compared to the Baratheons, Starks, and Lannisters in the whole story, the other protagonist family, the Targaryens, appear very few in Game of Thrones.

But the stories of their kings are extremely wonderful, starting with the conquerors, and each generation has a story worth telling.

The Dragonlord's family comes from the continent of Essos, on the other side of the Narrow Sea, the pre-apocalyptic Valyrian civilization, the most glorious and great civilization in the world of ice and fire, once ruled by forty dragonlord families.

The Targaryens were not prominent in Valyria, they were at the lower echelons of power, and Dragonstone was the westernmost island fortress in their empire's sphere of influence.

In 114 BC, Aegon's ancestor, Inar Targaryen the Exile, foresaw the destruction of Valyria by fire because of his daughter Denise the Dreamwalker.

So he sold his property in the Free Fortress of Valyria and moved to Dragonstone with 5 dragons.

Twelve years later, the apocalyptic catastrophe really befell the imperial fortress, and the free city-states that lost their shock began a century-long "bloody century", and the surviving dragon king families all fell and died, and the Targaryen family became the only remaining dragon family.

Born in 27 BC, Aegon the Conqueror has silver-blonde hair and purple eyes of Valyrian descent, wears a sword made of Valyrian steel, Black Fire, and rides the Black Death Bellerion (one of the five dragons brought from Valyria).

Before the War of Conquest, Varantis had invited him to join him to rebuild the glory of Valyria, but Aegon rejected them, and when the War of the Free City-States began, he chose to side with Valantis, shattering their imperial dreams.

But he is not a man without ambitions, his eyes are on the continent to the west, as evidenced by the table of the seven great mountains, rivers and towns on Dragonstone Island.

In accordance with the custom of intermarriage within the dragon clan, Aegon married his sister Visenya and also married his sister Rhaenys (one for duty and the other for love).

Visenya is the eldest sister, extremely beautiful in appearance, but fierce in temperament, she has learned swords since she was a child, wears the Valyrian steel sword "Dark Sister", and rides the dragon Waghar is a great warrior (the idol of Erya).

Aegon is the second, he can fight but not fight, competitive but generous, and has the demeanor of a king.

The third sister, Rhaenys, is more girlish, and her mount is "Mirasis", who is willful and curious, and often flies with a dragon.

After that, the three of them fought together on the battlefield to unite the Seven Powers under the Targaryens.

At that time, the continent of Westeros was still divided and ruled by seven kings, and there were constant battles:

Winterfell Stark in the North, Martell in Dorne, Lannister in Castle Rock in the West, Gardener in Riverbend, Arryn in the Brightmoon Mountains in the Vale, Harrenhal Hall in the River, Stormlands Stormrest Durendon.

At this time, the King of Riverland was the famous "Blackheart" Heron, and his grandfather, the Iron Breed "Strong Hand", took the Riverlands from the Storm King, and continued to encroach on the east to Duskdale.

The last descendant of the Storm King, Argira Durendon was also proud and brave in her youth, fighting between Heron "Blackheart" and Dorne, trying to curb the decline, but was helpless.

So he threw an olive branch to the Targaryens, marrying his only daughter to Aegon and promising a large tract of land north of the Blackwater River as a dowry (which had long been taken away by Heron).

Algila had a good plan, and he wanted to put Aegon between him and Heron as a shield and buffer for himself.

However, Aegon did not accept it, and instead proposed that it was okay to marry his daughter, but only to his good friend Auris Baratheon (rumored to be Aegon's illegitimate brother). Yargila was furious, feeling that Aegon was obviously a slap in the face and an insult to his daughter, how could his daughter marry an illegitimate child, and then cut off the messenger's hand and sent it back to Dragonstone.

This gave Aegon an ideal excuse for his war of conquest, and Aegon immediately summoned his vassals to plan a landing in Westeros and begin his own conquest.

Aegon first sent letters to the princes of the country:

From now on, there will be only one king in Westeros, who will bow his knees to me, and his glory will be guaranteed, and he will not be able to recover.

With one against seven, the conqueror is so domineering.

Then Aegon and his sisters, led a small number of soldiers and vassals (some say more than a thousand, some say hundreds) to land at the mouth of the Blackwater River.

At this time, there were only three small Tubao fishing villages, and he set up camp on the highest hills, which became the Aegon Hill and the original Aegon Fort.

Aegon sent his two wives on a dragon expedition and conquered Stoarkworthburg and Rossby without bloodshed.

The first decent resistance was a coalition of forces from Twilight Valley and Nuquan, who went head-to-head with Auris Baratheon, and Aegon rode the Black Death from the sky, and the battlefield turned into a one-sided slaughter.

Earl Darklin and Earl Muton died instantly, and Duskdale and Springs surrendered.

The town of Twilight Valley was financially strong, and Visennia forbade soldiers to sack the town, providing enough money for the conquest that followed.

After taking control of a dozen castles around the mouth of the Blackwater, Aegon was crowned at the High Hills of Aegon, and the defeated lord swore allegiance by placing his sword at Aegon's feet, and Aegon kept his promise regardless of his past suspicions.

Visenya wore a Ruby Valyrian steel crown on her brother's head, and in the tradition of Westeros, she wore a red dragon with a black background and three heads as her coat of arms as a sign of her sincerity in joining Westeros.

The name of King of Westeros, Guardian of the Realm, Aegon I Targaryen, went down in history.

The kings of the seven powers are all urgently discussing how to deal with them, but Aegon has not given them much time, and now that he has been crowned, the next step is to take down the entire kingdom.

Aegon sent his main force, led by Auris Baratheon (the first king's hand), to cross the Blackwaters south to Wind's Rest, with Rhaenys and Milasis along;

Daemon Valerian (Sea Chancellor) led a fleet to attack Seagull Town and the Valley, with Visenia and Vaghar escorting;

He himself took the Lake of God's Eye and confronted Heron "Blackheart".

All three armies set out to meet with fierce resistance. The vassals of Storm's Rest took advantage of Orris's troops to cross the river, raided the vanguard troops, killed thousands of enemies and fled into the forest;

The Arryns also summoned their fleet to meet the Targaryen fleet at sea, and Daemon Valerian was killed, losing a large number of warships;

Aegon himself was attacked twice on the southern shore of Lake Eye and suffered heavy losses in the Battle of the Mourning Willows.

However, the dragon appeared, and the balance of war still tipped in Aegon's favor.

Visenya's dragon pilots burned the ships of the Vale, Rhaenys set fire to the forests where the enemy was hiding, and Aegon set fire to the retreating ships of Heron's forces, burning two of Heron's sons to death.

Come to think of it, the dragon is the fleet + armored troops, and when others were still in the era of cold weapons, the Targaryens were several generations ahead.

But for these kings on the continent of West, they are not only facing Aegon's external troubles, but also their own internal worries.

The "black-hearted" Heron was notorious, and the princes of the River had long hated these cruel iron people, and the Turi family of Riverrun City was the first to raise the banner of the red dragon on a black background, and the princes of the three rivers followed suit, and rose up with the dragon king to attack Harrenhal.

Heron firmly believed that Harrenhal was impregnable, coupled with the abundance of food and grass, and closed his doors, and did not surrender without peace talks.

So the Targaryen taught the world a lesson never to be forgotten, and the Black Death took advantage of the darkness of the night, and the flames poured out along with the anger on the solid walls of Harrenhal.

The dragon flame was so hot that the tower melted like a candle, lighting the first memorial candle for its master, Harrenhal became the tomb of the "black-hearted" Heron family, and the dilapidated city wall became the best warning for the dragons in the next hundred years.

The Hall family was destroyed, and the feudal lord of the Three Rivers Valley changed hands, and Edmin Tully was made Duke and Guardian of the River because of his choice to understand the current affairs, leading the princes of the Three Rivers to pay allegiance to the Dragon King.

As the flames of Harrenhal cooled, Aegon collected the defeated swords and sent them back to the mouth of the Blackwater, where they became part of the Iron Throne.

The Storm King's "proud" Yargila will be even tougher to deal with, refusing to repeat the fate of Heron's "roast suckling pig", and he will take control of his own destiny with a sword in hand.

He led his troops northward and took the initiative to find the enemy for a decisive battle, but the movement of the army was completely detected by Queen Rhaenys Dragon.

Orris Baratheon set up outside the Bronze Gate, waiting for the arrival of the Storm King, but on the day of the battle, the storm and wind caused Argila to charge three times to no avail.

Finally, she seized the opportunity to break through the enemy line for the fourth time, but ran into Rhaenys and her dragon headfirst.

Under the dragon's fire, the horses panicked, the soldiers fled in all directions, and Argila was also lifted off his mount, but the old king with gray temples did not admit defeat, he faced several men alone, and duel with Auris.

In the end, the proud Storm King, who completed his "Last Storm", died with a sword in his hand, and got what he wanted.

The Storm King is dead, and the lords and knights of the Stormlands have fled without a leader, but the Storm King's daughter, Argenta Baratheon, holds on to Storm's End, preferring to die rather than surrender.

But her soldiers betrayed her and tied her naked to the tent of Auris Baratheon's barracks.

Admire the valor of King Yargila, Oris married Arjana, inheriting her family crest and motto, and becoming the new Duke of Storm's End.

The defeat of Riverlands and Storm's End put a lot of pressure on the other kings.

In an alliance with King Lauren of Kaiyan, King of the River Bend and King Loren of Kaiyan, they marched north-northeast with the largest army ever built, along with a knightly order of 5,000 men.

When Aegon heard the news, he led his army to join the two queens in Shitang Town, and then quickly went south to meet the battle.

The decisive battle unfolded on the plains south of the Heishui River, and the combined forces of the King of Hewan and the King of Kaiyan relied on the strategy of charging in the middle and encircling on both flanks.

Facts have proved that in the face of absolute strength, it is useless to make clever layouts regardless of your large number of people. It was autumn, the plains were lush with yellow straw, and Aegon and his sisters waited patiently for the enemy to penetrate before striking with the dragon.

Before Aegon's main attack, the two sisters responded and set fire to all the pastures around the enemy, and the combined forces of the two countries were surrounded by flames, and the battlefield became a cremation ceremony, and countless people were burned alive.

Those who managed to escape from the flames were shot by the dragon king's soldiers guarding outside, and later generations called this tragic battle "the fire of the plains".

King Monn and his descendants were burned to death, and the gardener's family was wiped out.

King Loren of Kaiyan sought an opportunity to escape, and was captured the next day, and King Kaiyan threw his sword to admit defeat, and was named the Duke of Kaiyan City and the guardian of the Western Realm.

Aegon then hurried to King Monn's High Court to prevent anyone from getting ahead of him.

After the war, the High Court was put in charge of the Governor Harlan Tyrrell, who did not resist and surrendered the city, swearing allegiance to the conquerors, and the Duke of the High Court and the Guardian of the South fell into the hands of the Tyrells.

Aegon wanted to go south to conquer Old Town, Qingting Island, and Dorne, but at this time, news came from the north that the king of the north, Toren Stark, had gathered his vassals and led an army of 30,000 through the neck, killing all the way.

Aegon had no choice but to lead his army north and deliver a letter to the two queens and the subdued princes.

The two armies met at the Trident River, and Toren Stark watched the flags of the princes of half the continent on the other side flutter under the banner of the dragon king, the military camp was boundless, and the three giant dragons hovered overhead, and did not rush to attack.

The ruins of Harrenhal and the horror of the furious wilderness were so appalling that the king of the north consulted with the princes and sent envoys to the enemy camp at night to discuss.

Regardless of the details, the next day Toren Stark placed the crown of the King of the North at the feet of the Conqueror, bowed his head, and was made Duke of Winterfell, Warden of the North.

He was also known as the "King of Submission", and a few years later, an inn was built on the site, called the "Knee Stack".

But as a king, he is his own and the kingdom's, and at the cost of the crown, it is right or wrong to avoid scorching corpses, and later generations will have their own judgments.

After conquering the North, Aegon and the Queen separated again, Aegon marched south to Old Town, Visennia headed to the Vale again, and Rhaenys flew to the Dorne Desert.

The young King of the Vale was regent by his mother, Sharah Arryn (rumored to be an extremely beautiful Empress Dowager, who tried to seduce Aegon with her portrait after the Conquest began, but was unsuccessful).

After the war began, the Three Sisters took the opportunity to rebel, and the Targaryen fleet attacked Seagull Town.

Empress Shaila mobilized a large number of knights at the Blood Gate to guard the main road to Eagle's Nest City.

But no amount of guards could help the dragon, Visenya drove Vaghar to land in the courtyard of the Eagle's Nest, and the Queen Mother Shala hurriedly gathered the knights to deal with it, but found the little king sitting on Visenya's lap and asked him if he could ride a dragon.

The two ladies smiled at each other and agreed, and Vale swore allegiance to the conqueror.

Rhaenys Targaryen did not go so well, she flew over the Crimson Mountains, over the red sands and white sands, only to find that the cities of Dorne were empty, and only the old and weak women and children were left.

Rhaenys arrives at Halberd City and finds Merella Martell, the princess of Dorne, waiting for her at the castle.

Merella ruled Dorne for 60 years and is now 80 years old but still strong. She tells Rhaenys that the people of Dorn, like their own language, are "indomitable" and never give in. Rhaenys couldn't ask where the army was and had to leave, but she vowed that the next time the Targaryens would come with "blood and fire".
