Chapter 3 Cedar Wood and Unicorn Fur

Two days later, at 9 a.m., Professor McGonagall arrived at St. Mary's Welfare Home on time. Ike and Julianne got up early and waited for Professor McGonagall to arrive.

After greeting each other, Professor McGonagall held out her hand and said with some seriousness, "Mr. Stred, please hold my hand." The journey won't be so pleasant and you'll feel a little uncomfortable, but it's not a serious problem. ”

"Remember! Don't let go of my hand, or something terrible will happen. ”

"Yes, Professor McGonagall." Ike knew very well how Professor McGonagall would take him to Diagon Alley, and he knew the dangers of the Phantom Migration.

Professor McGonagall nodded. "Goodbye, then, Miss Julianne, I'll bring Mr. Stride back before lunch."

As soon as the words fell, a "pop" sound was heard, and the two disappeared into the room together.

When he reappeared, he was in front of a shabby-looking and cramped bar.

Ike didn't go to see the famous Broken Axe Bar, even if he had been mentally prepared, he still didn't expect the Phantom Migration to be so uncomfortable.

It was as if a sturdy adult had been forcibly locked in a small suitcase and then flung like crazy. Ike took deep breaths, and it took a few moments to suppress the food debris that had clogged his throat.

"It's always like that the first time, and it's a lot better after that." Professor McGonagall patted Ike on the back and waited for Ike to recover before leading him open the door to the bar.

As expected, the environment inside the Broken Axe Bar is not very good. Some witches and witches sat or stood with a glass of unknown liquid, perhaps mead, perhaps butterbeer, or flame whiskey.

Dressed in wizarding robes, some are talking to each other, while others are hiding themselves in the shadows in the corners.

Old Tom stood behind the bar, wiping the table with a dirty-looking rag. Professor McGonagall and Ike came in, and greeted them warmly.

"Professor McGonagall, why did you bring the freshmen here so early this year?"

"Yes, freshman." Professor McGonagall nodded slightly, counting as a greeting. Old Tom naturally knew Professor McGonagall's character, and immediately said, "Then I won't delay you." Goodbye, Professor McGonagall. ”

"Goodbye."

Lead Ike around the bar to a small patio. On the surface, there were some weeds removed and nothing outside of a garbage can, but Ike knew very well that this was the most prosperous place in British wizarding - Diagon Alley.

Professor McGonagall took out her wand and pointed it on the wall and said, "Mr. Stred, you have to remember to count three pieces on the top of the trash can, and then two pieces horizontally, and when you have a wand, tap it three times, like this......"

A small opening appeared where Professor McGonagall had ordered, and the whole brick shook and slowly rolled to the sides, and an archway appeared in front of Ike.

"You can't go wrong with this order, although some naughty students will remove the trash can, but this place is magical, just wait five minutes for the trash can to return to its rightful place."

"Of course, it would be better if you could remember exactly where the brick was. Now, let's go to Gringotts first and claim your bursary. ”

Professor McGonagall led Ike through the archway, then suddenly turned around and smiled.

"I almost forgot, Mr. Stred......"

"Welcome to Diagon Alley!"

Ike looked excited, and Professor McGonagall nodded in satisfaction, and then led Ike straight to the conspicuous white building in Diagon Alley.

Passing through the dense crowd of Diagon Alley, Ike finally stood in front of the famous bank. A glittering bronze gate was open, and in the doorway stood elves in scarlet and gold-trimmed uniforms, bowing to every wizard who walked into Gringotts.

Passing through the bronze gate, there is a silver gate. The door was inscribed with a text full of warnings and threats.

Ike was noncommittal, and followed Professor McGonagall through the silver door.

The view was greeted by a spacious marble foyer, where a hundred and ten elves sat behind a long high counter, weighing money with a scale, examining gems with eyepieces, and counting accounts with quill pens.

Professor McGonagall walked straight to the back and handed over Ike's entry notice.

"Mr. Stred's Bursary."

The goblin took the notice, checked the record, and handed back a money bag.

"Twenty gold galleons, please put them away."

Professor McGonagall nodded slightly, handed the purse to Ike, and led him away.

"Hogwarts offers a bursary, not much, but enough to buy everything you need to go to school. You'll be able to lead this money at Gringotts every year before school starts, and you'll need to come and collect it yourself next year, Mr. Stredder. ”

"Of course, if you have Muggle currency, you can go to Gringotts and exchange it for gold Galleons, and Gringotts has no exchange restrictions in this regard."

"Now, let's go buy a wand first."

All the way to the depths of Diagon Alley, I came across a small dilapidated shop. The sign reads "Ollivanders Wand Shop" and a line in small print reads "Wands made since 382 BC". In front of the window was a worn-out wand on a faded purple mat.

Pushing the door in, there are long boxes that reach to the ceiling, making the store more and more crowded.

"Welcome, Professor McGonagall, is this a freshman this year? It's a lot earlier than usual. An old man with white hair paddled a ladder in front of Ike.

"Buy a wand for Mr. Ike Stred, Mr. Ollivander." Professor McGonagall was as serious as ever, nodding to Ollivander as a greeting.

Ollivander obviously knew Professor McGonagall's personality as well, and he bowed his head slightly, and then asked, "So Mr. Stredder, ......what is your dominant hand?"

"Right hand."

Ike replied.

"The right hand, of course, the vast majority is right-handed." Ollivander took out a tape measure and motioned for Ike to stretch out his right arm, and the tape measure automatically measured Ike's arm length, forearm length, height, and even head circumference.

"Every Ollivanders wand has a super-powerful magical substance, which is the essence of it. We are accustomed to using unicorn fur, phoenix tail feathers, and dragon heartstrings. ”

"Every Ollivanders wand is unique, because no two unicorns, phoenixes and dragons are exactly the same."

"We are convinced that wands choose wizards, just as we are convinced that you will find wands that are yours here."

Ollivander put away the tape measure, turned around and took a box from the shelf and handed it to Ike: "Try this, grapevine wood, dragon heartstrings, eleven inches." ”

Ike took the wand in his hand, and there was no response. Ollivander motioned for Ike to wave his wand, and that was the case.

"It doesn't seem to be this one." Ollivander retrieved his wand, climbed up the ladder again, and took one off the shelf.

"Cedar wood, dragon's heartstrings, eleven and seventy-five inches. Try again, kid. ”

After taking the wand, a silver-white ball of light suddenly burst out from the tip of the wand, directly knocking down the mountain of wands piled up high on one side.

"Fix it as before." Ollivander retrieved his wand and swung it, restoring the collapsed mountain of wands.

"In fact, almost every young wizard does this when they buy a wand for the first time, and we always have to go through some twists and turns before we know which one is really the right wand."

Ollivander muttered, "But I think I already have the answer. ”

"Try this, cedar wood, unicorn hair, twelve and seventy-five inches." Ollivander said as he handed it to Ike, "I think that's it, I'm sure." ”

The wand master is a wand master after all, and as soon as the wand is in his hand, Ike feels as if it is a part of his body, and a silvery white and soft shimmer emerges from the tip of the wand, and slowly swings away like ripples.

"That's it, that's it!" Ollivander looked happy, clapped his hands and said, "My father, Gervais Ollivander, used to say that the owner of a cedar wand would never be deceived, and I agree with that. ”

"The cedar wand is always matched by a very perceptive owner."

"Unicorn fur often wields the most consistent magic, and they are the most loyal."

"What an ingenious combination! Kid, I think you'll make a great wizard! ”

Ike looked at the smooth white wand in his hand, satisfied. At the very least, it's a good-looking wand.

"Thank you, Mr. Ollivander."

"It doesn't have to be this way." Ollivanders' smile was bright.

"Chenghui, Six Galleons."
