Chapter XVIII: Resolutions in the City of Parliament
The City of Parliament is located in the south-central southwest of Elam. As the first large city of the Salts, the City of Parliament was the most prosperous city in Elam. With a population of nearly 100,000, industry and agriculture are well developed. Sandwiched between two rivers, the city is not only extremely fertile, but also safer.
The walls of more than 30 meters high are strong and beautiful, full of the unique style of the Sartic people. The moat connected to the river does not have the same foul smell as other cities. In the city of Parliament, there are four legions, as well as adventurers from Elamite and other parts of the continent of Hill, who have come to Elam in search of wealth.
No one will question the safe surname of the City of Parliament. Except for the ancient Parliament City, which was once besieged by powerful monsters, no monster has attacked the Parliament City for nearly two thousand years. The powerful Salts are already capable of dealing with any incoming monsters, and even powerful dragons will not easily appear outside the council city.
And now, the parliament, which has not been convened for a long time, has now been convened. The various villages have sent representatives who they think can represent the village to participate in the order of the meeting proposed by the city of Santa Fe, and members who do not show up for half a month will be considered to have waived their rights.
"This monster has killed the Iron Hammer Legion in Santa Fe City!" the representatives of Santa Fe City preached their arguments in the circular council chamber to the dozen cities and seventy village representatives present: "That monster is the biggest threat to Elam at present, and if it is not eliminated in time, Elam will face an unprecedented grim situation." β
"As far as I know. After the Santa Fe delegates finished speaking, a woman who attended the council said with some amusement: "The powerful monster in your mouth is actually just a minotaur." Moreover, your Hammer Legion was actually burned to death in a forest fire, as the village of Cabinda can vouch for. Is it really necessary to convene a plenary meeting just because of the incompetence of your Hammer Legion?"
"Is it? just a minotaur?"
"It's supposed to be a minotaur, I got the news from Lobito as well. β
"It's obviously impossible for a minotaur to wipe out the Hammer Legion. Their outfit ......"
"In order to give an explanation to their citizens, did Santa Fe shirk the body of the Dao monster?
"I heard ......"
The delegates sat in their seats, talking to each other, pondering the reliable surnames of their words. The vast majority of the delegates apparently did not believe that a single minotaur would wipe out the well-armed and battle-hardened Hammer Legion. And even more convinced, because the city of Santa Fe could not give the citizens an explanation, and used this council as a political bargaining chip.
"Don't think we don't know. Santa Fe looked at the woman who spoke and said viciously: "The collusion between you Cabinda and that monster, if it weren't for your iron products, why did the production of your iron products suddenly increase so quickly? β
"Then you mean that our warriors in the village of Cabinda, who are less than a hundred men, and a minotaur with only a few goblins, wiped out the entire Hammer Legion?" said the woman with a mocking expression, "Even if we Cabinda warriors are all warriors with one as ten, I think many of Santa Fe will flee back."
And about the iron ore you are talking about, recently we found an iron ore in the forest. It is also reasonable that the production of iron products has risen. We're curious to know why your Hammers are running near Cabinda?"
The woman's questioning and ridicule left Santa Fe's representative speechless. No matter how he explained, he could not convince the delegates present that a single minotaur could wipe out the Hammer Legion, which was exceptionally famous throughout Elam. What's more, the legion set out thousands of miles to go to other people's territory, just to destroy a minotaur, which seemed even more nonsense to other representatives.
"So. The Speaker looked at the deputies who were not far behind, struck the gavel in the council chamber and said, "We vote here, and the councillors who agree to punish Cabinda and send troops to fight against the monsters are invited to raise their hands." The speaker looked at the few raised hands in the audience and continued: "Then this proposal is rejected! The convening order of Santa Fe City is null and void, and Santa Fe has no right to convene the parliament until this time next year." At this point, the meeting is adjourned!"
"We're not going to give up. As he left, the representative of Santa Fe said viciously to the woman of Cabinda: "Don't think that you and that monster will last long!"
"Let's think about how to stabilize the people in the city first. The woman said indifferently: "There are so many dead people, there must be a lot of commotion in the city." β
"Hmph. The Santa Fe representative snorted and walked briskly out of the council chamber.
"Emily. An elderly representative who knew Emily called out the woman's name, walked up to Emily and said, "Can we find a place to talk?"
"Yes, Uncle Karl. Emily nodded and said, "My brother is outside, we can go to the hotel where we are staying and talk." β
Emily and Aruba, who escorted her to Parliament City, stayed in the lesser-known Rainwater Hotel in Parliament City, a two-story building with only a dozen rooms and a mediocre dΓ©cor. However, fortunately, because of the complete facilities and the low price, most of the village representatives who come to the parliament city for meetings like to live here.
"What's the matter? Uncle Karl. Aruba, who led Carl to his room, said, "Tell me what you have to talk about." β
"About this time. Karl thought for a moment and said, "I've heard from Sal that the monster is too powerful to ignore. Of course, I understand why you deny it. Although Elan is not accused of colluding with monsters, it is not a good reputation. β
"What the hell are you trying to say?" Emily asked, looking at Karl, "We're not in cahoots with that monster, we're just trading." We didn't hurt anyone by exchanging the tools and some products we produced for iron ore, and only Santa Fe would think that we were robbing them of their jobs. β
"No, that's not what I'm trying to say. Karl frowned and said, "I also know that the monster did this time only in self-defense. But, don't you think he's too strong? Although, I'm a little older, and I didn't participate in that time. However, I could also sense the threat of that monster.
He first defeated more than two hundred Salt warriors, and this time killed a thousand Hammer Legions. Is he so powerful that he will really be able to trade with us with peace of mind, and once his strength expands, will he settle for only a small patch of the forest near Cabinda?"
"I understand your concern. After listening to Uncle Carl's worries, Emily thought seriously for a while and said, "But I don't think it's any harm, I've been with him for a while, and I can feel that he's not the kind of monster who loves to kill." He abides by order and law, and has never violated a treaty with us.
Because of him, we sow seeds after the rain, and no monsters disturb the village. In other words, after signing the contract with us, there are no monsters near the village. I think Lobito can feel it too, the monsters have disappeared from the vicinity of the village. I can't think of any reason to go to war if we can live in peace. β
"But what if he's strong enough to destroy everything?" Karl said unwillingly, "if he destroys a legion today, it may be our village tomorrow." β
"Preparedness is a must. As a warrior, Aruba, who understands the feeling of being worried about the enemy's strength, said, "But we won't strike first, and we won't be unprepared at all." The village chief's idea is to come in and prepare for a conflict with Mo Yan, but if Mo Yan doesn't do anything out of the ordinary, then there is no reason for us to end this win-win contract. Moreover, I believe that Mo Yan is not the kind of person who will tear up the agreement, and even if he wants to annex our village, he will do so in a more gentle and clever way. β
"Is this your judgment?" Karl said after listening to Aruba and Emily's words, thinking carefully for a while, as if he had made up his mind, "Then it seems that I will also persuade the village to establish a trade agreement with that monster when I go back." β
Just when Mo Yan didn't know, Lobito, who was originally more inclined to Santa Fe, also had the idea of trading with him at this time.
