Chapter Twenty-Three: Attack and Defense
Oregon, too, has gold mines!
In the 19th century, northwestern North America was full of gold!
It doesn't get much more perfect for a nascent country.
From Oregon in the north to California in the south, along the Rocky Mountains all the way south, gold mines are almost everywhere.
The reason why Columbus took the risk and crossed the ocean in the 15th century was not to prove that the earth was round, nor did it have a dime to do with the so-called persecution of the church.
The reason why he crossed the Pacific Ocean was to find a route to India.
Unfortunately he went the wrong way, and after drifting on the sea for more than half a year, he finally landed on land, and he was ecstatic to think that the land he had found was 'India'!
So he called the inhabitants 'Indians', which is where the name 'Indians' really came from.
The Spaniards followed in his footsteps in the 16th century, and I don't know who first spread the rumor that it was full of gold!
Everything is like what it says at the beginning of the story of the Great Voyage -
"Want my wealth? If you want, I can give it all to you, go find it, I put all my wealth there! ”
So the world ushered in a magnificent Age of Discovery!
The pirates didn't find the Golden Nation in the end!
Even if they tried their best to torture the local Indians, using all kinds of vile and vicious methods that were so vile that they broke through the bottom line and were so vicious that they didn't find the legendary mountain of gold!
However, the growing slave trade brought them a steady stream of wealth!
The wealth brought by the slave trade was so great that the pioneers of the colonial trade forgot their original intentions and no longer bothered to bother to find gold, but instead engaged in the obviously more promising business of the slave trade!
Alas!
If they could hold on a little longer, they might find that from Oregon in the north to California in the south, from Denver in the east to the Gold Coast in the west, there are gold mines everywhere!
After the opening of the Age of Discovery, the world situation is also changing!
The coachman of the sea lost all his property;
The Armada was crumbled and sunk in the English Channel;
The kings of France were slain again and again;
The Sun Never Sets Empire indulged in excessive lust after becoming rich, and soon felt powerless!
The gold mines of North America sleep quietly, waiting for the winner of this continental game.
- Sometimes it's hard not to believe in such a thing as 'national fortune', which is ethereal, but it seems to be real.
However, at this point in 1843, although the 'national fortune' of the United States seems to be within reach, there is a little accident!
This group of pirates, private traders, and all kinds of illegals who migrated from Europe did not have the consciousness of 'handing over the state' after discovering this series of gold mines.
Instead, they all chose to conceal it.
The people who made small troubles chose to make a fortune in a low voice, and they ate and slept in the open field to pan for gold in the wilderness.
Enterprising people simply built their own armies and encircled the land to build their own golden kingdom.
The famous Newmont Gold Company, its founder, William Boyns Thompson, is still an infant in Montana at this juncture. But the patriarch of the William-Boynes family has built up his armed forces in Montana to protect his sacred private property!
Just like the mysterious armed army in Denver, except for the handful of people in Denver, everyone else thought they were digging coal!
If the United States wants to gain its true 'national fortune,' it needs to win at least two wars.
One is to level Mexico and establish an unchallenged position in its sphere of influence.
One was the Civil War, which purged itself of separatist forces.
Since ancient times, the establishment of any country, such two wars have been the only way to go.
If the war is won, the national fortune will come.
If you lose, you will fight back to your original form, and you will either start from scratch and start cultivating, or you will be slumped and it will be difficult to recover.
At this time, in the eyes of outsiders, Oregon is calm, like the calm wasteland of the West, seemingly unremarkable.
But beneath its calm exterior lies even more treacherous than Mexico to the south!
The William Boynes family is ambitiously ready to make a big move!
But at this time, a son-in-law named John Fremont came to the outside of their fence castle, saying that he wanted to "open up territory" for the American Federation, and no one could stop him from doing so.
What's even more bizarre is that Oregon at this time doesn't belong to any of them at all, and nominally it's still the territory of the Crows!
Many, many years later, there was a big man named Barak-*** who became the 'clansman' of the Crow tribe.
The real history is far more ridiculous than the story I am going to write!
……
After burying Victorio, the watermill was so vigorous that he did not even eat dinner, and led his soldiers down the mountain.
His soldiers carried only three days' rations, and each man had an average of twenty rounds of ammunition.
And there are no horses yet.
I don't know if it was out of carelessness or if I really didn't think about it, but everyone didn't mention the 'supply' thing in unison.
It was only when the figure of the last soldier disappeared in the setting sun that the turtledove, who stood on the windowsill and watched them leave, sighed as if nothing.
"I don't know when my soldiers will be able to fight a battle of prosperity with great joy!"
"Haha!" The beaver laughed when he heard this. "When you're rich!"
"When will we be rich?" Turtledove then asked.
"When you can fight a battle of abundance!" The beaver replied.
"Alas!"
Taking offense as defense is really a last resort.
But where there is even the slightest possibility, who doesn't like to build high walls, accumulate grain, and slow down to become king?
In the memory of the turtledove, there is a country named 'Shu' in another time and space, with the weak strength of a state, the northern expedition every year, and the conquest is endless!
Could it be that the king of Shu spared no effort from the people?
It's just that there's nothing to keep it for!
"Starting tomorrow, a grain quota system will be implemented!"
"Everyone, including the students, must participate in voluntary work!"
"A white man's head is rewarded with 1 ounce of gold, but if it is a white man who is alive and has mastered a craft, I give 10 ounces!"
Ikaruga is not short of money!
He is already quietly mining the gold on Mount Braque!
Moreover, there is a winding path in the forest of the Sierra Madre, through which the people of the Turtledove tribe work in the stars and the moon, and the wealth created by the frugality of food and clothing, is converging like a trickle towards the White Rock Fortress.
"Beaver, make a military order! What would you do if Oglara didn't come within three days? ”
