Chapter 568: Echoes

Less than an hour after the start of the expeditionary force landing in the 17th district, despair and panic enveloped these soldiers who set foot on the battlefield for the first time.

The intelligence of the coalition government has gone badly wrong, and an unprecedented enemy awaits them beneath the city.

The air raids did have an impact on the monsters in the city to a certain extent, but the soldiers soon discovered that these mutated creatures were not insects that could be easily crushed by exoskeleton armor as advertised in the Coalition Government's intelligence, but unknown creatures that could mutate as the battle progressed, and what made them even more frightened was that these mutant creatures seemed to have stricter military discipline than them.

Half an hour after the landing began, a team of mutant creatures covered in spores penetrated the expeditionary force's outer defense line along the underground tunnels and reached the improvised front-line command center.

The unprepared commander and his guards were instantly turned into blood foam under the violent explosion, and even the communication facilities with the 17th Sector Expedition were blown into ruins, and they lost contact with the other urban expeditionary forces.

But before they lost contact, most of the bad news they received from their communication devices was bad.

Every landing force was met with a powerful counterattack from mutant creatures, and even in several cities where mutant creatures were even more rampant, the drop bay was ambushed by burrowing creatures almost as soon as it landed, and even the recruits with no combat experience realized that these mutant creatures not only possessed intelligence close to humans, but also prepared for this air raid.

The death of the commander was the straw that broke the camel's back, and the line of defense against the mutated creatures could no longer last, and the soldiers fled into the buildings in a hurry, scattered throughout the city.

These valuable "sacrifices" have provided the coalition government with a great deal of important information.

The Eye of the Federation no longer tried to explore the secrets of the sudden storm, and focused on the white-hot battlefield, although the intelligence department had expected the total annihilation of the expeditionary force before it set off, but no one could have imagined that this mighty expedition would not even last a night.

The surviving soldiers in each city tried to send a signal for help to the coalition government, and the battle gradually turned into an encirclement and suppression operation by mutant creatures against the expeditionary force.

One of the most shocking discoveries was their realization that there were also "commanders" in this army of mutated creatures, and they were beyond their imagination in terms of the scope and accuracy of intelligence communications.

The Expeditionary Force of District 17 was the first to start the landing battle, but less than a quarter of an hour had passed since the last batch of airdrop silos landed, but in the cities raided by the last group of Expeditionary Force of District 12, those mutated creatures learned from the experience of other cities and set up ambushes near the airdrop warehouses, so that the soldiers who landed were cut into pieces by the creatures that came out of the ground before they could establish a defensive line.

And now, the smell of blood, which could be smelled through the helmet of exoskeleton armor, pressed the nerves of every surviving soldier.

The cover of the building gave them a brief respite, but looking at the mutated creatures scattered throughout the city, their only hope was to wait for the coalition government's air force support.

Some of the soldiers who were wounded in the evacuation were quarantined on other floors, because during the hours-long battle, the expeditionary force discovered the presence of "comrades" among the mutant creatures, but they had turned into walking corpses, mingling with the monster troops, and let out a terrifying roar, which gave them enough reason to believe that the mutated creatures carried some kind of highly infectious virus.

Some of the wounded were impaled by the bone spurs of the mutants, others lost their arms, and their exoskeleton armor was not very good against the attacks of the mutants, and the military-grade metal that was said to be able to withstand the armor-piercing weapons was torn apart like toys in front of them.

They were left on the lower floors of the building by other comrades-in-arms, and although no one picked them out, the "residual heat" they could exert was to warn the garrison upstairs in an almost decoy way.

Time is running out for them.

Because they heard a voice ringing in the depths of their heads.

The voice urged them to return to the arms of the Father, reminding them that the mutated creatures who were now hovering outside the building were their true brothers.

The sound of an unknown voice suppressed the pain of the wound for a moment, and caused them to hallucinate as if they had overdosed on illegal drugs.

They seem to see where the war is going.

The Coalition's proud mechanized forces are crushed by unnamed mutated creatures, and the breath of death spreads to every city, and the Coalition's century-long prosperity will fall in the coming war.

However, they are not the losers in this war.

The echo in their minds kept calling them to join the victor's side.

Until, the sound of movement between the walls brought the wounded soldiers back to reality, and something was rapidly approaching them, which made them instinctively raise the barrel of their guns, even though they knew that the bullets of the EM rifles could no longer inflict lethal damage on the mutating creatures.

The fear of the unknown didn't last long, and after about a minute, the creatures that were rapidly weaving between the walls came into view.

It was a much more terrifying mutant than the mutated creatures in the city, they looked more like insects, and their large bodies made it impossible to tell what they had mutated from.

The bullet casings that kept falling on the ground represented their last resistance, but their bullets could not leave a single wound on the insects.

Giant insects surrounded them so slowly.

The wounded soldiers had even lost the intention of escaping, knowing from the beginning that the mutated creatures outside would not let them go just because they had taken refuge in the building.

The human power was insignificant in the face of these insects, and they watched as their comrades in exoskeleton armor were carried by the forelimbs of the insects, and the wriggling limbs of the insects firmly tied them to themselves.

Everything looks like this swarm of insects is ready to enjoy their dinner.

Despair crushed everyone's will, and the electromagnetic rifle with empty magazines fell to the ground, and they simply closed their eyes and waited for death to come.

Until, they heard a gentle voice in the darkness.

"Don't be afraid, Sister Doctor is here."

This is undoubtedly the voice of a gentle woman.

However, when they opened their eyes in excitement to see if it was the coalition government's medical team that had come to their rescue, the sight of them was once again dragged back to hell.

It is these unnamed insects that make gentle female voices.

All they could see was the scarlet pupils of insects, and a thought that made them shudder even more.

These insects......

Do you know the language of a human being?

They watched as the insects pierced their sharp mouthparts into the back of the wounded soldiers' necks, and then ......

The wounded soldier's broken arm grew at a rate visible to the naked eye.
