Chapter 208: Durrës shelling
Durrës, the largest port city in Albania and the only decent port in the Adriatic Sea for the Ottoman Empire, was the Ottoman Empire's presence of a regiment, but with relations with Italy, the Ottoman Empire sent the 21st Army Division to the area.
The division was mainly composed of soldiers from the Levant region, its officers and men were staunch YSL believers, and the loyalty of the people in the region to the empire was excellent, so although it was not as strong as the troops made up of native officers and soldiers in Asia Minor, it could also be called the backbone of the Ottoman army.
So placing it in Durrës also serves as a front-line defensive force. After all, it's just across the strait from mainland Italy, which is a bit too dangerous.
Of course, it is impossible to hold the entire Albanian region with the 21st Division alone. Behind it was reinforcements, and the Macedonian Second Army, which had been in Albania for three days, was its strong backing. In addition to the 21st Division, the group army also has the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 31st divisions, with a total strength of 81,000 troops, and the strength of two garrison divisions in the Albanian region.
With nearly 100,000 troops, I hope to discourage Italy from trying to attack Albania.
This was the idea within the Ottoman Empire, but whether it would work or not, no one knows.
Of course, in addition to the Macedonian Second Army, the Macedonian First and Third Armies are stepping up preparations for war. Not only to prepare for an Italian landing in Albania, but also to look in other directions. The surrounding small Balkan states are not the masters of peace.
However, these are all far away, and at present, for Major General Atatürk, the commander of the 21st Division of the Ottoman Army, who is the commander of the city defense of Durrës, these have little to do with him, and the most important thing is to strengthen the defense of Durrës.
Speaking of defenses, though, it was a bit of a no-brainer, as he arrived in Durres to find out that there was a lack of enough shore artillery. Of course, if you count the coastal defense artillery that is older than Atatürk, and the officers and soldiers of the fort who are more like coolies than soldiers, then Durrës is not lacking in coastal defense forces.
But whether this thing is reliable or not, Allah Allah bless it is useless.
Therefore, on the first day of taking over Durrës, Major General Atatürk was like an advanced shore defense gun in the rear, at least to be able to deter the enemy when he came.
However, it is a pity that Major General Ataturk could not wait for the arrival of the coastal defense artillery, and the news of the declaration of war between the two countries was notified to him as soon as possible.
This made Major General Atatürk extremely annoyed, as it meant that the port defenses of Durrës could not be strengthened. Of course, if Italy does not come to Albania for two or three months, then its plan can still be implemented.
But it's good to think about it, there is no possibility of implementation at all.
Didn't you see that Italy wanted the territory of the empire in North Africa with Albania? That's enough to tell.
But frustration doesn't solve the problem? So the same thing that should be set up for defense has to be done, of course, this is not difficult for him. One of the most important port, the North Shore Battery? It has long been taken over by the artillery units he sent his own. What kind of waste is the original battery? He wasn't reassured at all.
On the 4th day after the declaration of war between the two countries, Major General Atatürk had just come out of his command? I'm going to go to the city to check how the fortifications are being built.
But before he could get on his horse, he suddenly heard an emergency bell ringing. This made him react immediately? This is the siren of an incoming enemy. Or did he set it up himself? A bell that alerts the military and civilians.
After hearing the ringing of this bell, he didn't care about anything else, and immediately returned to the headquarters and climbed to the observation deck on the third floor of the headquarters. His headquarters was set up on a hill north of Durrës? It's a condescending place to observe the movement of the sea.
The weather is nice today? He took a telescope and looked at the situation.
Where the sea and the sky meet, several ships appear

On the fourth day after the declaration of war between the two countries, Major General Atatürk had just come out of his headquarters and was going to the city to inspect how the fortifications were being built.
