Chapter 493: A Booming Automobile Industry

Turin has become increasingly important in the Italian economy in recent years, having risen from the sixth largest industrial city in Italy to the top three.

Turin's rapid development is of course due to its large automotive manufacturing industry. At present, when it comes to Italian cars, all countries unanimously agree that Fiat is Fiat, and Fiat is still the largest automobile manufacturing company in the world. Although other countries are gradually having their own automobile industries, the first-mover advantage is not so easy to break, not to mention the large number of Fiat patents, which is unavoidable for many aspiring to gain a foothold in the automotive industry.

But fortunately, Fiat also knows that it can't provoke public anger, so these car patents, they are also willing to authorize, as long as they pay money, they can get the right to use the patents. Just last year, Fiat earned more than 8 million lire from licensing patents alone.

However, the income from these patents can only be regarded as additional income. For Fiat, the most important thing is that its own car manufacturing industry is fundamental.

In the last year, Fiat built more than 80,000 cars, with the Fiat Model A being the best-selling.

That's right, it's the cheapest car sold by Fiat, with a waterproof canvas carport, and it looks like a modest style A car in every way, and it's the best car Fiat sells.

Of course, the current Type A car is definitely different from the Type A car sold at the beginning, at least the current Type A car has also undergone some upgrades. After all, Fiat has spent a lot of money on automotive research over the years, and many practical small technologies can be improved without spending much money. In this case, people who are shy and eager for a car can choose this model.

Last year, more than 50,000 Type A cars were sold, each priced at just 3,100 lira, and the world could not find a car with a lower price than the Type A.

And Fiat can sell the car at such a low price, on the one hand, it is large-scale production, after all, as long as it is on scale, then the price of materials will be suppressed, and on the other hand, it is excellent cost control. Agnelli has made a significant contribution to the complete dismantling and optimization of the production process of automobiles, which has led to a qualitative improvement in the production speed of Fiat cars.

Fiat is also well paid, with a qualified worker working nine hours a day, five days a week, earning around 240 lira per month. Although this does not seem to be high, compared to the high salary in the United States, it is already very good in Italy. Every time Fiat recruits workers, it can be crowded, and there are not too many people who want to enter the Fiat factory.

And in addition to the best-selling Type A, Fiat's Model B is not bad, with more than 20,000 units sold last year.

The B-type car, which was originally intended to replace the A-type car, had no effect on the performance and styling advantages of the A-type car in the face of the price advantage of the A-type car, which made the executives of Fiat laugh and cry.

Speaking of which, the Model B is actually not too expensive, and the current price of 4200 lira is considered a car that is close enough to the people. However, the price difference of 1,100 lira has more than doubled the sales of Type B.

In addition to the A and B models, Fiat also has an S-model. This is Fiat's entry into the high-end market. The streamlined body has a metallic finish, as well as leather seats with mahogany calfskin and ivory-inlaid ashtrays, making the entire Model S very visually striking.

The price of each car is as high as 54,000 lira, so that many rich and noble people choose this car as a travel car.

With these three cars, Fiat accounted for two-thirds of the world's car sales last year.

At present, in addition to Fiat, automobile companies from various countries are also developing and growing with the injection of capital. In the United States, for example, a company named Ford created the first factory in the United States to mass-produce automobiles, and the Ford Model A it sold sold well in the United States, squeezing Fiat's share in the country. And in France, Renault is not bad, and it also sells a lot of cars. As for Germany, Daimler and Mercedes-Benz also show the presence of German cars.

Of course, these car companies do not pose a threat to Fiat at present, you must know that Fiat's first-mover advantage is not small, coupled with strong capital, so that these little brothers can only drink soup.

And in addition to these three cars, Fiat has just launched a car, the Fiat van.

That's right, it's the van.

Fiat's top management has long been unanimous about the involvement of automobiles in the transportation industry. As long as there is a good truck, the horse-drawn trucks on the market will not be able to fight back, and the transportation industry will become a new growth point for automobile sales.

So after 3 years of research and development, Fiat finally came up with a truck. The car is powered by an 80 hp petrol engine jointly developed by Fiat and the Milan Power Laboratory, which can carry 1.5 tons of cargo and reach speeds of 40 kilometers per hour.

The launch of the truck was an immediate response to the market, with the first 2,000 trucks sold out. More orders for trucks then snowflakes came to Fiat. Because the user who buys the car can calculate the account, a heavy-duty carriage can only pull a ton of goods on the road, but it needs 4 horses, and the appetite of the horses is not small. Moreover, the animals do not rotate continuously, and after a few hours of work, the horses have to rest.

Although the wagon seems to be more expensive, a 1.5-ton truck can be sold for 5,800 lira, but in terms of usability, it is indeed better than a horse-drawn carriage.

In docks, mines, and other operations that require high-intensity transportation, this truck is a horse-drawn carriage. In addition, in long-distance transportation, trucks are also incomparable to horse-drawn carriages in terms of their cargo volume and speed. That's why the emergence of such a truck will bring so many orders to Fiat.

It is necessary to say here that among the many orders, there are also orders from the military of some countries, especially the number of orders purchased by the military of their own country and the German military.

The Italian military procured two hundred, while the German military procured five hundred.

The reason why the militaries of both countries pay so much attention is simple: its carrying capacity.

The German military experimented with the use of Fiat trucks to tow artillery maneuvers, and in the towing experiment of a Krupp 105 mm light howitzer, the gun was easily pulled by the car for 48 kilometers, and later ended because of wheel damage.

However, the German military saw the huge role of trucks in the military field, so they wanted to buy more vehicles and conduct further experiments.

Of course, it is not excluded that Germany and Italy will let Fiat develop trucks with better performance in the future for the transportation of larger artillery.

However, for Fiat, it is certainly not a bad thing to be able to enter the military's field of vision.
