22. Retreat and death
The arrow shot by the black-armored knight was not aimed at anyone, but the power it showed exceeded the imagination of the villagers. The twisted black arrow first drilled into the tallest horse in the center, and then with a loud bang, four or five logs that required the joint efforts of several people to barely lift were blown off from the middle, and the entire horse collapsed, crushing the villagers behind who could not avoid it underneath, and suddenly there was a tragic cry for help with a groan.
However, the villagers who were not crushed by the collapsed logs were already taking care of themselves, and at the same time as the black-armored knight fired a terrifying arrow, the riders who were wandering around each pulled out a short throwing spear from behind their backs, and then threw it out in unison with a little strength. The strength of these people was staggering, and the terrible sound of the short spear throwing made it almost tempting to cover one's ears.
Most of the villagers only felt that it was dark in front of them, and before they could even turn their thoughts, they felt a sharp pain somewhere in their bodies, and they were involuntarily carried backwards and fell to the cold ground.
The power of these riders' spears is not at all something that human beings can block, and the villagers who were shot were pierced by the short spears and lost all their combat effectiveness, both physically and in their hands and feet. Fortunately, the accuracy of the riders' spear throwing was only average, and only three villagers were shot and killed on the spot.
This round of spear attacks severely injured one-third of the villagers, plus the villagers who were crushed by the collapsed logs, Warren had lost more than half of his men, and the villagers who survived were also shaking their hands and feet, and the logging axes and saws fell to the ground crackling.
"Can't stop it!" Warren closed his eyes in pain, and then let out a sharp yell: "Run!
His voice woke up the villagers who seemed to be sleepwalking, and in the next moment the panicked screams filled the forest clearing, and all the people who could still move rushed like a nest of headless flies, and many of them could not even find the direction of the camp, and ran into the dense forest without a head.
Warren was probably the calmest of the panicked crowd, yelling to guide the villagers out of the woods, dragging Donner hard and staggering backwards. Donner, who seemed reluctant, struggled and cried out.
"Warren, let go of me, my legs and feet are not good, I can't drag you down!"
"What a bastard, Brother Donner, your leg is injured like this because of me, and I'm going to drag you back even if I'm dead!" Warren dropped the spear in his hand, grabbed Donner's shoulders with both hands, and put most of his body weight on his body, and the two of them ran out of the dense forest together.
Just as Warren was about to run out of the dense forest, he suddenly glanced back at the situation behind him, only to see that the black-armored knight did not rush to chase after him, but raised an equally black long sword in a hurry, and slashed at the head of a villager who had just struggled to sit up.
Burst of blood.
The villager let out a half-scream, his head rolled off his shoulder, and the headless body shook a few times and fell to the ground in a pool of blood.
The black-armored knight pointed the long sword in his hand at Warren, and the ranger felt a chill all over his body, although he still seemed to hear the words that the black-armored knight did not say from a distance of hundreds of meters.
"Run away, I want you dead!"
Villagers fled from the jungle as alarm bells rang thousands of miles away. The villagers who were working on the renovation outside the wooden wall were stunned for a moment, and then they ran towards the gate, and Sir Grace, with a silver fir longbow in hand, ran out of his dwelling, and glanced over the surrounding watchtowers, and found that Levi's archers had already climbed the tower, and pointed their longbows in the direction of the forest, ready to draw.
"This kind of reaction speed is really incredible. Sir Grace exclaimed, and then lightly jumped up the wooden ladder to a watchtower.
"Sir Grace, all eight members of the Archer Squad, all here, report to you. Grace nodded in satisfaction and said loudly, "Keep on guard, ready to shoot at any time!"
Then, the famous sniper archer also unfolded his silver fir longbow and aimed at the swaying forest.
Warren dragged Donner's heavy body and ran out of the dense forest, and behind him, the shadows of the trees swayed, and from time to time the miserable screams of the dying villagers could be heard. The screams were like death's life-urging charms, making Warren's heart pound, and he gasped for breath, gritted his teeth and ran towards the refugee camp.
"Quick, quick, the demon is coming, close the gate!" a villager ran in from the outside, out of breath, and shouted at the camp guards at the door.
"No, Lord Levi has an order, as long as one of the villagers is outside, the gate cannot be closed. One of the camp guards shook his head.
"Regardless of Levi's orders, if the demon comes in, we will all die!" The villager was obviously frightened, screaming as he threw himself at the winch that closed the door, and behind him, two or three villagers who were also frightened rushed together.
Several camp guards were not too resolute in their blocking, and soon the villagers led by them rushed to the winch, and when they were about to turn the winch with both hands, a heavy and cold touch came from their shoulders.
The villager looked back and saw a burly man in full metal armor standing behind him, a large sharp and heavy sword resting on his shoulder, emitting a faint blue and cold light.
"Rider, knight, lord......" The villager let out a hoarse exclamation, his legs shaking.
The big man's sword hand was steady and powerful, without a trace of trembling. The full-face helmet blocked the expression on his face, and the voice came from the helmet, making him look sullen.
"Lord Levi has ordered that as long as one villager is outside, the gate cannot be closed. ”
"Lord Knight, the demons are coming, if we don't close the gate, we will all die!"
Another villager let out a miserable cry like a duck pinched by the neck, which immediately caused several voices around him to respond.
"Yes, Lord Knight, you can't put the safety of all of us at risk for the sake of a few people outside!"
"The demon is coming soon, let's close the door quickly!"
"Let's go together, the knight master won't kill us!"
The last villager's words obviously spoke to everyone's hearts, so several nearby villagers scratched and wanted to rush up and turn the winch.
"Click!"
The sword flashed, and in the disbelief of everyone, the thick rope on the winch broke from it, and the broken section quickly circled around the winch like a live snake, and then flew into the air.
The heavy wooden door opened with a loud bang.
In the middle of a group of stunned villagers, a crusader swordsman in full metal armor put his sword back into its sheath and said in a sullen voice: "Lord Levi has an order, as long as one villager is still outside, the gate cannot be closed." ”
The wooden walls of the refugee camp were not far away, and Warren felt like a fire was burning in his chest, and his lungs were contracting rapidly, hoping for more fresh air to enter, but his throat was scorching, and there was no way to do it.
Donner's leg was unable to run due to an old injury, and he could normally move on crutches, but now there is nothing he can do. Being able to drag the physically strong Donner here, Warren's physical strength has been exhausted to the limit, and now he is completely supported by a will.
It's a pity that the will is not omnipotent. Just more than a hundred meters away from the refugee camp, Warren suddenly stumbled and fell to the ground with Donner, and a sharp pain in his right leg suddenly came from it.
Warren gritted his teeth and reached out to touch it, and his face suddenly turned pale.
"Damn, a dislocated ankle!"
As a ranger, he knows this injury very well, and a dislocated ankle is not too troublesome in normal times, as long as he finds a way to put the dislocated part back in place and rest for a while, it's fine. But dislocating at a time when the enemy was about to catch up was tantamount to pronouncing his death sentence.
Donner struggled to his feet, standing in front of Warren.
"Brother Donner, it's only more than a hundred meters, the gate is not closed, it's still too late!
Warren's hurried voice came from behind him, and Donner turned his head and smiled slightly.
"Brother Warren, if it weren't for my drag, I'm afraid you would have returned to the camp just now, how could I leave you here and go back alone?"
The elderly ex-adventurer pulled the logging axe from his waist and patted it in the palm of his hand, a fierce smile on his face.
"Hack two to death, hack three to earn two!Demon cubs, come on, let's see how much Grandpa Donner can earn!"
