Chapter Seventy-Six: Investigation (I)

Accompanied by several Corsican sailors, Lawrence and the three men boarded the only two line warships of the Corsican Navy in turn.

Lawrence had little interest in studying these ships, and Grosso had already reached the point of perfecting his understanding of ships, so the main purpose of the two was to accompany and explain to Nelson.

However, after a brief visit, little Nelson also became a little intrigued, for the two ships were of the same third class as the Reasonable.

There were few differences in the internal structure, and even some of the cabins and guns were not as well arranged as on the Reason, which made Nelson Jr. not very impressed with the two capital ships.

What really attracted Nelson was the small auxiliary vessels moored in the harbor.

These auxiliary warships, which were born to adapt to the Mediterranean environment, are rarely seen in the Royal Navy, after all, the Royal Navy's focus is still on ocean-going warships.

"Oh my God, the sails of this ship are so big."

Nelson, Lawrence, and Grosso boarded a three-masted ship in the Mediterranean, and as soon as he got on deck, Nelson stared at the canvas several times wider than the hull above his head, and couldn't help but sigh.

Lawrence immediately gave Grosso a look, and Grosso had to sigh helplessly when he saw this, walked behind Nelson, turned into a commentator, and said in broken English:

"This kind of boat, also known as a fast dhow, can be operated by only about 100 people, and these sails are enlarged, so they are particularly windwardly, very fast, and the draft is very shallow."

Grosso explained, but also incorporated his own experience over the years:

"The pirates of Arabia are very fond of these kinds of ships, and fuck, I've encountered them a few times, and they hang up their whole sails and run faster than rabbits, and they can't catch up with them. But you come with me..."

Grosso said, and led Nelson and Lawrence to find the ladder leading to the lower deck, and after the three of them climbed down the ladder, Grosso pointed to the twenty guns lined up in the lower deck and said:

"In a normal galley, this is the position of the oarsman, but in order to increase the firepower, the oarsman is canceled and replaced with an artillery deck, which makes its steering performance not very good, which is a defect."

......

Once Grosso began to explain, Nelson listened intently, occasionally asking his own questions, some of which Grosso scratched his head and didn't know how to explain.

By the time the three of them had seen the main ships in the harbor for almost all of them, it was already sunset.

Nelson's face was flushed with excitement and excitement, and it was particularly vivid in the light of the setting sun.

He solemnly bowed to Lawrence and Grosso again, and said sincerely:

"Thank you very much, Your Excellency Bonaparte, for such an opportunity. And you, Mr. Grosso, are so knowledgeable. ”

Lawrence smiled and didn't speak, while Grosso waved his hand and said casually:

"A fart who is knowledgeable, if he leaves a pig at sea for twenty years, he will understand this."

Nelson laughed twice at Grosso's words, then looked up at the sky and whispered:

"Thank you both again, it's almost time for free time, I think I should..."

"Wait."

Lawrence interrupted him abruptly and said softly:

"Actually, I'm also curious about things in England, can you answer some of my questions? I'll explain it to you over there. ”

"Really? Great, Your Excellency, please speak. ”

When Nelson heard Lawrence's words, he also became excited, and said in a loud voice.

Lawrence casually asked a few very general questions, such as where Nelson's hometown was, what was the scenery there, and what was his family, and Nelson answered these questions meticulously.

Seeing that the foreshadowing was almost over, Lawrence suddenly asked casually:

"By the way, little Nelson, do you know the old man that your uncle helped down today? It doesn't feel like he's a soldier. ”

"The old man?"

Nelson closed his eyes, frowned and thought for a moment, then shook his head and said:

"I don't know him, he rarely goes out of the cabin, and my uncle barely mentions him, oh yes, I once heard my uncle call him ... What an earl is coming. ”

"The Earl... Did he come to Corsica alone? Lawrence asked, frowning.

"No, he had dozens of servants, but he lived alone with his servants in a cabin on the first floor, and the sailors were not allowed to enter that cabin. The servants should be out of the Reasonable Signal later. ”

......

Lawrence then asked a few more questions, but that was all Nelson knew, so Lawrence wrapped up with a few regular questions and sent Nelson back.

"Tsk... There's nothing to be gained from this, the old man doesn't even hide it from himself. ”

After sending Nelson off, Grosso leaned against the wall, scratched his hair in distraught, and said:

"In vain I have so many tongues, alas, the tongue that I told that kid is dry."

Lawrence, pondering and analyzing the information provided by Nelson, casually said:

"yes, I think I've gained a lot, at least little Nelson is grateful to us, isn't it?"

"Go, go, if he were a big man like a king, it would be useful to be grateful to me, what is the use of this little kid being grateful to me."

Grosso waved his hand at Lawrence and said angrily:

"But what are you going to do, there are two things worth in that boy's words: an earl, and dozens of servants. But such people are caught all over England. ”

"That's true, but the identity of the old man and the purpose of his coming to Corsica must be clarified."

A gleam flashed in Lawrence's eyes as he said in a deep voice.

He already had a vague feeling that the English earl had gone to great lengths to hide his identity and come to Corsica for the sake of an event that would affect Corsica's fate, and that it was impossible for Lawrence to sit idly by and watch this completely unknown event befall him.

"What then? Find a few more reasonable sailors to find out the news? Invite them to the tavern to fill a few bottles of rum, and they'll tell you how many bastards they have. ”

Grosso suggested with a frown.

Lawrence just shook his head slowly and said:

"Those ordinary sailors probably don't know as much as Nelson, and it's easy to be suspicious to find out the news on such a large scale."

"That's right. So where are you going to start? Grosso sighed a little frustrated and asked Lawrence.

Lawrence rubbed his forehead for a while and said slowly:

"In this way, we can only start with those followers. They don't even know who their master is. ”

"Thisβ€”" Grosso said with some hesitation:

"What's the difference between this and asking the sailors of the Reason, it's not like anyone will find out."

Lawrence did not reply immediately, but tilted his head and closed his eyes, thought for a while, and after finalizing a general plan in his heart, he nodded to himself and said:

"No, the difference is still huge."

"What's wrong? What's bigger? ”

"I can't get a Royal Navy soldier in a dungeon."
