Chapter Ninety-Nine: Arrangement
Early the next morning, inside the Ajaccio patrol station.
The patrolmen who had been brought to Bonifacio by Lawrence had spent the night in the barracks before returning to the station, and as soon as the ten men stepped through the gates of the station, they immediately attracted the attention of all the patrolmen:
"Hey! Bank, you're in that battle, tell me what the hell is going on. ”
"Muse, I saw you yesterday in the procession! I never thought you were that handsome. ”
"Oh my God, I envy you how Lord Bonaparte chose you."
......
In the face of the flood of questions, these patrolmen only shook their heads and smiled bitterly, and answered some questions that were not related to the battle very carefully.
When Lawrence selected them, the first criterion he looked for was loyalty, and the second was their overall ability.
Therefore, these people also kept Lawrence's orders in mind at all times, and did not reveal the slightest bit about the situation on the battlefield at that time, let alone the effect of the use of rifles.
"Alright, alright."
Old Sean in the crowd clapped his hands, signaled everyone to be quiet, and then waved his hand and said:
"They are probably tired too, so don't bother them and have a good rest."
Just as the crowd was distracted, some sharp-eyed patrolmen suddenly noticed a young man dressed in richly dressed, with ribbons trimmed on the cuffs, and wearing a full coat, vest, and shirt.
The patrolmen were stunned and stared at the young man for a while before they were pleasantly surprised:
"It's Lord Bonaparte!"
"Sure enough! I haven't been to the station in a while. ”
Everyone came up to look at Lawrence excitedly, and at the same time wondered why the self-patriarch was not wearing a uniform or military uniform today, but was dressed up so solemnly.
Lawrence walked into the hall, waved to the crowd, and then went straight to old Shaun, and whispered:
"Send someone to find Grosso and Ya'an, pay attention to hide your identity, and the three of you will come to the top floor to see me together."
Old Sean glanced at Lawrence's serious expression, and immediately understood that something big was about to happen, so he nodded his head in agreement again and again, and motioned for the patrolmen to return to their posts.
The last time they had such a tense and serious meeting was when they planned to eliminate Xiluo two years ago, which also made old Sean refreshed himself and hurriedly sent someone to Xicheng District to inform Grosso and Yaan.
About an hour later, on the top floor of the station, in the secluded storage room, the four of them gathered here again.
"Hey, Lawrence, you're going to the prom, I have to say you're quite tasteful."
Grosso still looked very aggressive, and although he was summoned urgently, he didn't show any nervousness, and he commented on Lawrence's dress very curiously.
Ya'an, on the other hand, looked at Lawrence respectfully and didn't say a word.
Lawrence glanced at the three of them, and even though he knew that there were only four of them on the entire top floor, Lawrence got up and closed the door to the storage room tightly.
Seeing Lawrence's serious movements, Grosso also quickly restrained his expression, looked at Lawrence with a serious expression, and probably guessed that what he said next might not be simple.
"Remember the British ship that came to the port a few weeks ago?"
Lawrence looked at the three of them and said in a deep voice.
All three nodded, and although Lawrence did not tell them about the subsequent progress after finding out about Pete's identity, the incident itself caused a small stir at the time.
Lawrence pondered for a moment, gathered his thoughts a little, and then said in a coherent breath:
"I hope you will remember what I am going to say next, and only in your hearts."
After a whisper, Lawrence informed the three of them of the pact between Pete and Pauly, his own struggle with Pauly, including the conversation with Pauly yesterday, as he had done that day.
The pantry was as silent as a pool of stagnant water, and Lawrence was talking about things that were more than they were exposed to on a daily basis.
If anyone else had told them the same, the three would have not hesitated to think of that person as a deranged lunatic.
None of the three had expected that they would be involved as a small patrol in a struggle over the fate of Corsica.
Yaan recovered from the shock as quickly as he could, looking at Lawrence with a calm face, waiting for the next order, and in any case, his fate was tied to Lawrence personally.
Grosso frowned, looking down in contemplation, trying to sort out the context of this chain of events.
Old Shaun was still staring blankly until Lawrence finished speaking, staring blankly ahead, and even the sound of his breathing was a little less.
As an old man, he had been on patrol since the beginning of the Corsican Republic, so his reverence for Paulie lasted for more than a decade.
When the object of his reverence becomes an irreconcilable enemy, it is difficult for old Sean not to recover from this gap for a while.
"Boy, this is a bit unpleasant, I've seen the methods of the British."
Grosso slapped the table and said hatefully:
"Corsica is no different from an American colony to them, and the British policy towards the colonies is endless taxes and military service, and an old man like Shaun Sr. can rush to the battlefield."
"I understand." Lawrence nodded and said:
"And, more importantly, the power of Britain is on the rise, and if this continues, I can predict that the Corsicans will not have a chance to become independent for three hundred years."
After that, Lawrence glanced at the old Sean, who was still stunned, sighed and said:
"That's why I broke with Poly, and in that sense, I have to apologize to you for getting you involved in this fight."
Ya'an shook his head and said firmly:
"I've been with adults."
"Well, I'm messing with you kid anyway." Grosso, who had experienced strong winds and waves, shrugged his shoulders indifferently and said:
"If you don't lose this little life, it's fine."
Lawrence nodded solemnly to the two, and then all eyes of all three focused on Old Sean.
Of the three of them, only the elder Sean obeyed Lawrence because of his position, and the other two followed Lawrence directly.
Now that Lawrence and Paulie have parted ways, the elder Sean is also struggling in the bottom of his heart, hesitating which side he should choose.
"Old Shaun, just let your heart choose."
Lawrence looked at him, slowed down his speech, and said in a deep voice:
"I know that you are old, and if you do not want to be involved in these things, I will allow you to continue to receive an annuity from your share of the patrolmen, and send you away from Corsica for your old age."
As soon as he said that, Lawrence didn't speak again, just quietly closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair, waiting for old Sean to make a choice.
"I..."
Old Sean moved his lips, his voice trembled a little, and after repeating it several times, he stabilized, and said with determination:
"I would like to be like both of them, to serve Master Bonaparte. It wasn't until Bonaparte came to the patrol that I found my meaning as a patrol soldier during these two years. Governor Paulie... He disappointed me, and I didn't want the patrol to go back to being despised by everyone. ”
"I accept your potency."
Lawrence leaned forward, bowed his head slightly, and then said to the three of them:
"Also, I've already told Paulie that I'll be away from Ajaccio for a while. During this time, I should be removed from the patrol. ”
The three of them looked at Lawrence and nodded, and they all knew in their hearts that even if Lawrence's position was revoked, the only leader of the patrol, which was more than a hundred people, would only be him.
After explaining the remaining trivial details to the trio, Lawrence left the patrol station and walked towards the port of Xicheng District.
"The only armed force that can be mobilized directly in the city of Ajaccio has been held by me, and what is needed now..."
Lawrence carried his luggage and whispered as he walked down the road:
"A sufficiently powerful external force intervenes."
