"Irrational Law Authority"

This term is a proverb that expresses the concept of the rule of law in modern Japan.

It is from the "Sadashara" left by the mid-Edo period etiquette researcher Ise Sadajo.

The original meaning is roughly "fallacy is better than reason, reason is better than law, law is better than power, power is better than heaven".

This concept is strongly influenced by Confucianism, which holds that "if the powerful are to make decrees, then decrees must be more than reason."
