Chapter 235: A World in Danger
In the twilight-soaked rainforest, the shuttle under Jack Sully's seat flew over a large cliff and over a colorful rainforest.
"The Legend of the Fairy Tree"
The trees are all strange and too green.
There are waterfalls, rivers, and in the distance a large number of winged creatures that cannot be named.
Suddenly, the carpet-like lush forest gave way to an open-pit mine.
It was an extinguished crater, like a giant taking a piece from this world. In the terraces below are three-story excavators and trucks.
Next to the mine is the Gates of Hell, the concentration of the mining company RDA.
The "Gates of Hell" is a reinforced concrete structure surrounded by ten-meter-high blade barbed nets. In its corners, there are automatic turrets mounted on shelves that can be rotated.
Next to the turret, the "Walkilly" shuttle roared and grazed the treetops. The ejector reversed the angle, allowing the shuttle to slow down.
And in the jungle, invisible to others, a non-human hand came into view, uncovered the leaves, and watched the shuttle that landed in the courtyard.
Two pointy, cat-like golden eyes watched.
In the shuttle, a captain stepped down the aisle and shouted:
"Take your salute, everyone remember, once you release the mask, after 20 seconds, you will lose consciousness, after four minutes you will lose your life, no one is allowed to die today, it is not good to appear in my report."
"Turn off the cruise, here is TDA-1-6, is passing through the perimeter marking, the base has been seen."
"Loosen your seat belt, put on your air filter backpack, set off in a minute, and go straight to the base after the boat gets off the side, don't stop and wait for my signal."
The passengers donned the air filter backpacks with skillful movements, but this did not include Jack Sully. He was trying to straighten himself up and straighten his backpack.
When the shuttle landed, it blew the air flow 100 meters away.
In the aisle of the shuttle, everyone lined up and got the equipment. In the queue, nervous and expectant faces were wrapped in oxygen masks.
With a whining hydraulic sound, the unloading door opened.
The captain shouted, "Go straight underground!" Don't stop! Straight in!"
"Run-Run"
"Hurry up, keep up!"
He rushed down, along with the guys who were walking down the ladder at double speed.
They jogged across the tarmac and ran towards a chain-wrapped passageway.
Inside, there are several members of the SEC-OPS team, which is the colony's own security force. These tough guys are seemingly laid-back but haggard.
"Look at these who are going to die!"
Their eyes moved to Jack, who was controlling his wheelchair to slide down the unloading door.
"Look at this, rookie in a wheelchair!"
"It's terrible!"
Ignoring the gossip of the others, Jack moved his wheelchair to himself and looked around.
For a retired marine, this is nothing, as long as he passes the test and gets enough money, he can heal his spine, of course, he will not have the money to take when he dies.
On the home planet, these people are lackeys of the army, marines, who used to stand for freedom, but here, they are just mercenaries, working for companies in order to make money
In front of Jack Sully was a huge light yellow, house-sized excavator, roaring, advancing with its muddy wheels.
Jack noticed that the mechanical tires were filled with arrows with various feathers, and the new stones, the weapons that had once appeared in primitive societies, were very discordant here.
In the distance, two vertical take-off and landing aircraft are taking off. They are armored and heavily armed. They are AT-99 Scorpion armed attack aircraft.
The MK-6 mobile augmentation platform and AMP armor, a four-meter-tall humanoid mobile machine manufactured by Sanli Company, patrols the perimeter.
They are heavily armoured, have one arm, and are equipped with a rotating cannon called the GAU-90.
Outside the fence, there is a black wall, more than thirty meters high in the forest.
Just as Jack Sully was losing his mind, a soldier on a watchtower opened fire.
Tracer bullets streaked across the night sky, and as a shadow screamed, falling from the fence.
It was a fenced armed camp.
"Boy, be careful."
Bang!
Jack Sully felt like something had hit the chain next to his head.
He turned his head at the sound, and something fell behind him.
A "predator" insidiously bares its venomous fangs at the steel a few meters away. It stabbed at him with the end of its gleaming dagger-like tail through its chains.
This is a spiny bat from the planet Pandora.
A man in uniform, with short hair and three long scars on his scalp scratched by a Pandora creature, casually blasted off the stinging bats with his pistol.
It fell on the outside of the fence, its tail still whipped steel, powerful.
"If you've seen a lot of people leave here in wheelchairs, but you haven't seen anyone inside when they came, you have to know that you're not in Kansas anymore."
Jack stared at the dead monster's fangs and looked at the man with gray eyes.
Behind the clouds lies the majestic star Polyphymis as if to obscure the sky.
The man's name was Miles Quaritch, a former colonel, and now the head of security for the Hellgate colony.
More than a hundred new arrivals watched intently as he walked to the front of the hall with leopard-like steps. He stopped, and stood with a big grin.
It was now more clearly visible that Quaritch's face was bumpy and handsome, except for the scar that ran from his scalp all the way down to his chin.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you are no longer in Kansas, you are in Pandora, ladies and gentlemen, keep this fact in mind at all times.
If there is a Hell on Earth, you will definitely want to go to Hell for a vacation, and after completing Pandora's journey, behind any wall, any flying animal or creature that lurks in the dirt will want to kill you and eat your eyes as gummies. ”
There was silence in the room.
Colonel Quaritch raised his hand and pointed out, it was a dark forest.
"There's a humanoid creature here, called the Na'vi, who specialize in making nerve arrow toxins that can stop the heart in just a minute. They also have hard bones with self-generated carbon fibers that are hard to kill, always understand that we work and live under constant threat. ”
Quarridge's gaze crossed the resolute faces of miners, machine drivers, engineers, and geologists.
"As a security officer, my job is to make sure you survive, but I can't complete the mission, you will definitely have casualties, and if you want to survive, you must have a strong mindset and must follow the rules."
"The rules of Pandora!"
Soon after, in the base's biology lab, which consisted of many adjacent small rooms, Jack met with his colleagues.
"I'm Noam, Avatar Operator."
"This is the link room, which is where we link with Avatar, and set up an Avatar ...... yours"
Jack approached a glass cabinet filled with liquid, which contained a near-ceiling-high liquid tank with a humanoid figure floating.
A big, blue guy.
Blood circulates through a synthetic umbilical cord located in the abdomen. When the figure turns over in the amniotic fluid, it can be seen to have a lemur-like tail.
The skin is blue-cyan. Long black hair floats gracefully like seaweed.
"They're really big enough."
"yes, they have a lot of muscles, and it looks like they feel good when you use them."
A colleague echoed Jack Sully's exclamation.
They are to operate these remotely controllable organisms called avatars, which are the result of a combination of human DNA and the DNA of local people
Each operator is matched to his own Avatar, so their nervous systems must be in harmony.
When the eyes jumped out of this place and came to the entire planet, overlooking the green jungle from above, around a towering tree worthy of a mythical tale, a powerful storm of energy was brewing, and it seemed to contain a danger enough to tear everything apart.
