Episode 8 First Contact
As dusk passed, the soldiers gathered in front of Franca's inn and formed a circle in front of the campfire, some talking and laughing, others roasting their catches. Franka played cheerful music on the harp, while calmly chatting and laughing with the soldiers.
"Hey, shouldn't we go to bed—" Cole quietly pulled Luka's sleeve, "It's late-"
"Oh, I'll listen to it again, it's good—" Luca looked at the harp, her eyes full of curiosity, "how does this thing make a sound?" Listen up—"
"If we don't leave, we won't have time to get down to business." Cole leaned into Luca's ear and repeated.
"Stop a little longer—" Luca was dragged back into the room by Cole, still pricking up her ears to listen to the faint sound of the piano coming from outside.
"Can you be serious?" Cole locked the door and asked Luca with his waist crossed, "Can you do this?" ”
"Why not?" Absentmindedly, Luka took a key out of her pocket and threw it to Cole, then rolled over and lay down on the bed, "Yo at the warehouse door." ”
“?” Cole's eyes widened and he held the key in front of his eyes, "When did you get it?" ”
"Just now, the person opposite us is the warehouse guard who came down from the shift, and this key is from the warehouse. You wouldn't have noticed, would you? ”
"How did I know he was from the warehouse?" Cole scratched his head, "Haven't we been together all the time?" How do you know? ”
"Haha." Luka lay on her back on the bed and winked at Cole, "You come here, I'll tell you." ”
Cole climbed into bed and approached Luca, "What the hell is going on?" ”
Luca leaned over to Cole and exhaled in his ear, "I won't tell you." ”
"People like you should—"
"Hey, how's it going?"
"—whatever you want."
"Alright, let's go." Luca opened the window, probed left and right, and shook her head, "I'm a little tired all of a sudden, why don't we go back during the day-"
"What are you talking about?" Cole climbed out of the window and stood outside and held out his hand to Lucca, "How can it be during the day, isn't that too obvious?" ”
"I-want to sleep-hey?" Luca muttered, and was suddenly pulled outside by Cole's hand, "What are you doing—can't you go again tomorrow?" Luca looked around uneasily.
"What's the matter with you?" Cole touched Luca's forehead, "Is it stupid?" ”
"Hey." Luca dodged Cole's hand and propped up the window edge to climb back into the house, "It's not the best time to strike yet." ”
"Hmm." Cole touched his chin thoughtfully, "Could it be—"
Cole rested one hand on the window, sneering wickedly at Luca's dodging gaze.
"Gee, you're not scared, are you?"
"Who's scared!" Luca glared back at Cole.
"Oh, you don't think you're afraid of the night, are you?"
"Shut up!"
"Oh, the famous thief is afraid of the night."
"Let's go, let's go. Who is afraid! Luca put on her goggles and stepped into the night without looking back.
The distance from the inn to the warehouse wasn't that far, but it was already a long time for Luca. At this moment, the two of them had already stuck to the edge of the warehouse, observing the situation nearby. There was only one entrance and exit gate in the entire warehouse, guarded by a night guard, and the first door was hidden and unlocked. The second door was hidden inside, surrounded by only a few vents that were too small for a rat to get into.
"Are you alright? Your legs are shaking. ”
"No, I'm shaking." Luca pulled out her headband, put her ear behind her head, and took a glowing stick in her mouth, and jumped to the top of the warehouse in three or two clicks, "You just wait here, I'll finish this little thing in a second." ”
Luca went around the roof to the top of the gate, easily bypassing the guards' blind spot and passing through the first gate, there were no additional people on duty inside the warehouse, and the manpower aspect was indeed a big problem in this era. Luca slowly inserted the key into the second door's lockhole, and with a few clicks, the door was unlocked, but with a slight push, a loud rattle was particularly harsh in the silence of the night. Luca made sure that the guards outside the door didn't notice what was going on inside, carefully compared the width of the crack in the door, and reluctantly poked her head in, and then her whole body came in through the crack in the door.
There weren't many things in the warehouse, and a few large boxes were neatly stacked around, and the ornate gold-rimmed chests glittered in the light of the torches in the corners. Luca took out a dagger and pried open a large box and snorted disdainfully. Chests full of gold and silver treasures were glorious, but they didn't appeal to Luca, and in a world where survival was the main challenge, the least valuable thing was these gold and silver items, which in any sense of the word, would not help most people on their survival journey. Except, of course, for the dignitaries in big cities such as the You Mo Gang.
'Click', Lucca pried open another box, this time it was neatly arranged metal jars, and Luca opened one of the lids, and a pungent smell poured out of it, accompanied by a hint of blue smoke. "What the hell—" Luca dipped a drop of liquid in his dagger and took a closer look, but didn't find anything unusual, so he flicked it out.
With a 'poof', a cloud of blue smoke rose from the spot where the liquid fell, causing a small explosion, and Lucca hurriedly lifted his hand on the jar and carefully closed the lid back, which was only a drop to cause an explosion, and if it was a box, it would look terrible. "It's good that you shouldn't be able to hear the movement inside." Luca pried open two more chests, both stuffed with all sorts of strange things, a large part of which Luca didn't even know what they were used for.
"What the hell is this—" Luca pulled out a bulging candlestick, shook his head and tossed it aside, his attention now focused on a red scarf, which looked like it was made of wool from the outside, but felt so silky and light that it was impossible to feel a little weight in his hand as if it didn't exist. "That's kind of interesting." Luca tucked the scarf into her pocket.
Suddenly, there was a sound of footsteps outside the door, and Luca immediately turned and hid behind a box, carefully observing the approaching figure.
