Some of the setting questions about the salutation
Today, I happened to see a comment mentioning the issue of using the title "senior brother and junior brother" in fantasy texts in quite thought-provoking words, and after thinking about it and revising it repeatedly, I decided to write a single chapter to talk about it.
Regarding the name of the same door, I said it when a book friend mentioned this issue before, and I am actually quite entangled.
First of all, according to the Western concept, there is no such concept of the same family as in the book, so the same family is basically called by their first name.
As for the title of the Eight Classics, there seems to be only one kind of "senior" in the West, but this is used in the context of the college, in the relationship between the same door and is obviously closer than classmates, it always feels strange to be called a senior.
However, since there are book friends who have mentioned it, and there is indeed a problem, I will definitely respect it.
Therefore, I first tried to change all the "senior brothers" in front of me to "seniors", but I just gave up directly after changing two sentences, Tai Nima was embarrassed, with this title, I can feel a strong sense of alienation just by looking at it.
So, I tried to delete all the brothers and sisters and change them to call them by their names, this time it felt a lot better, and the logic was also in line with Western concepts, but after changing a chapter, it always felt that something was still not right.
The human touch is too light, so faint that it is even a little awkward, everything is called by its name, and it stands to reason that there should not be such an awkward feeling in the fantasy background.
So, I stopped changing it for a while, and instead began to think, why did I instinctively use the title of senior brother and senior brother before?
Then I suddenly realized that this was because the wizards in the book had already gone in a direction that was contrary to Western concepts.
That's right, the wizard in the book is too human, and in this case, the use of senior brother and brother among the wizard's disciples has become the most emotionally suitable title.
Then I started to wonder why this was the way it was. The root causes of this scene began to be deduced, and there was a result.
First of all, let's start with the root of the birth of wizards in this book.
(There will be minor spoilers below, but not serious, as there is no chance to go into detail about these in the text)
The wizards in the book are not normal wizards who seem to be born there, and there is no long history and inheritance, but a group that has just started.
The wizards in the book do not appear out of nowhere, but sprout little by little.
The first to become a wizard was undoubtedly the Great Wizard, and it was officially he who led the wizards to what they are today.
When he first became a wizard, he did not think of ruling or revenge with this power, but selflessly taught it to everyone at that time.
It was at that moment that the Great Wizard became the teacher of all the first generation of wizards.
It's not just the teachers and students in the academy, this group of people who have just experienced countless hardships together and already have a common idea have formed a new relationship at the moment when they are taught by the great wizard together
- All of them studied under the Great Wizard, and they knew each other like family.
As wise men, they realized that all the "seniors" in the noble academy were no longer suitable to describe their relationship, although they could still be called by their first names, but there was no doubt that their new relationship needed a new term to describe it.
So, naturally, they coined a word that could be used to describe this relationship - "Senior brother." ”
Studying under the same teacher, I formed a trust like a family member.
It is also from here that there is a serious difference between the concept of the medium "teacher" of the wizards and the medium "teacher" of the Western concept.
The teacher in the Western concept refers more only to the "imparter of knowledge", but because of the problems experienced by the wizards in the book, their concept of teacher has no longer stopped at simply imparting knowledge, but has risen to teaching to be a person.
Therefore, although the background of the world is the West, it is actually self-evident which side the ideology of the wizards in this world is more inclined to.
Naturally, the same students who appear under this definition of "teacher" tend to be more inclined to the other side, which is probably why I feel that it is more appropriate to use the title of "senior brother" than others when writing my book.
In fact, after all, the serious apprentices in the book all followed the wizard at the age of twelve, and since then they have been under the teaching of the other party for decades, which is more in line with that concept, and the result can be derived from logical reasoning alone.
Further, why did wizards use this way to pass on instead of using the academy method, in fact, it can also be deduced, the academy system is similar to the division of labor, which is suitable for the unified teaching of a large number of students, but how could there be so many wizards at that time who could teach?
Each wizard will accept a dozen disciples and it will be over, with the energy of wizards and the cycle of wizard apprentices, they will be completely taught, and they can also be taught more precisely.
In other words, from the very beginning, the images of wizards and teachers in this book are actually more in line with our culture than in Western perceptions because of their experiences.
Among their disciples, they are also more in line with the state of "senior brothers" rather than "seniors".
So, after thinking about it all night, I decided to keep the original title.
Of course, in order to ensure the smooth flow of logic, I added a corresponding explanation in Chapter 11, briefly explaining the problem of the title of "senior brother".
If that's still hard to accept, there's nothing I can do.
Logically I am round, and I can stand up to the roots, but if this is still ridiculous, then I can only laugh it off, and thank the dissatisfied readers with regret and rejoicing that they have persevered so far.
Well, so be it.
In order to solve the logic problem here, there is not a word (ಡωಡ) hiahiahia tonight
